Sure eye is better, but banning eye kills the deck and kills Tron at the same time. That is completely overboard.
Ban Eldrazi temple and you now have a glass cannon deck. Sure you could have an Eye, 3X mimic hand, but you only have 4 eyes in the entire deck. It would be no different then Infect or Grishoalbrand which can win turn 2 with perfect draws or turn 3 Karn in Tron.
Just because a deck CAN have a busted draw doesn't make the deck unfair. The issue Eldrazi has is that it has 8 lands that are busted. Drop that to 4 and the deck loses tons of consistency but probably can still survive.
I'm seeing them being sold on TCG player for $44 still.
That's barely over MSRP.
If you want one to have one I would just order there. If you are trying to invest in gem I would pause because there may be something we don't know. If they were worth as much as BFZ they should be gone by now.
The benefit Tron has that twin and pod didn't have is that you can neuter Tron without killing the deck, and if you did kill Tron the pieces would be worthless.
Because every U/R midrange deck was better with twin, there was no reason to not play it in a U midrange shell which killed off many U strategies. Tron does the opposite where it actually enables cards to be played that otherwise wouldn't be.
Because Tron enables cards instead of preventing them the only concern is around powerlevel. Luckily you can weaken Tron by printing better hate or banning some of the consistency. A ban on Ancient stirrings or chromatic Star for example would hurt the deck without killing it. I don't see a scenario where the entire deck needs to be axed.
Wizards stated one of their considerations was what Twin players would move to. Despite the loss of twin, a large majority of he twin deck is still very valuable. Scalding Tarn, snapcaster Mage etc. Killing Tron would make nearly the entire deck worthless as the parts aren't interchangeable.
Having said all that, if it looks like a Tron ban is coming I might hedge a little by trading away my groves temporarily. That's a card I could see dropping from $80 to $5. Most likely however it won't come to that. Aggressive decks still keep us in check hard
As a Tron player, I wouldn't avoid decks because they lose to Tron unless you are playing for the Pro Tour.
Tron has a unique enough combination of cards that if your goal is just to win local tournaments that I can't imagine you are going suddenly start seeing brand new Tron decks everywhere. It will take time and money for people to jump on the Tron train, and that is only if Tron really is as dominant as people fear.
I also don't know if these bannings will help Tron as much as people think. Twin has always been a bad matchup, especially grixis twin, but burn was always my true fear and Grishoalbrand is also gaining steam after avoiding the ban. If the twin meta is replaced by burn and Grishoalbrand then it is going to keep Tron in check.
I wouldn't avoid the deck you really want to play because of Tron, especially not yet. I jumped into Modern and Tron right after the birthing pod ban and I picked the tier 1-1.5 deck that I wanted to play, not the one that was the absolute best. Stuff happens. Keep on trucking. The meta changes all the time.
Yea, some of you guys are falling into the classic modal card trap. Modal cards are always better en the sum of their parts. Blood moon aside, his card will never be dead. Even throwing a 1/1 in front of a goblin guide last second would save 2 points of damage which is pretty much worst case scenario for the card in that matchup
Is this card main deckable? This seems maindeckable
I'm struggling to think of matchups that aren't already awesome for us that this card isn't good in. I think it might replace my one maindeck spellskite. Just seems better.
Edit: the other thing that is making me interested is modal cards always are better then they seem. Turn 3 ugin is a ridiculous fairy land until that one game where it's possible and you win the game because of it.
Agreed on the burn matchup, but I think burn has always been pretty much a loss for us anyways. I don't think we lose enough win % against burn to make this matter much. It probably goes from a 80-20 matchup to a 85-15 matchup.
I think it's better against infect exactly for the reason you said, but the big winner is against affinity which is huge.
I was going back and forth trying to decide if the new Kozilek's return spoiler was better for us then proclasm, then I realized it was findable by ancient stirrings.
One extra mana for instant speed and exile ability was already tempting. Being able to find it puts it over the top. The card is going to be huge for us I think. I am super pumped.
That's my entire point. All of those cards are broken.
So is archbound ravaged.
And Mutagenic growth
And Tarmogoyf
Every Tier 1 modern deck is "broken" you can't just arbitrarily pick what you think is more broken then others.
Takes affinity down a notch. Promotes control decks.
Also lets ban Might of Old Krosa.
Takes infect down a notch. Promotes control decks.
Also lets ban Eidolon of the great revel.
Takes Budn down a notch. Promotes control decks.
We going to go down this path?
Turn two thought knot seer after multiple Mimics is even more ridiculous of a scenario if temple is banned. It would require
Eye of Ugin
Mimic
Mimic
Thought knot seer
Spirit Guide
Land/Spirit guide
Six specific cards. We are now in magical Christmas land.
You can't freak out over best case scenarios for a deck. Eye of Ugin is fine without Eldrazi temple.

I'm sold. I'm preordering foils if the hype train doesn't take off.

Sometimes I run in with a Single digit health walker just to get the 50 points

Would be awesome
