There are a ton of people in here that think they are lawyers that aren't.

Labor laws are extremely strict and extremely tricky to navigate. It wouldn't surprise me if the lawsuit was settled out of court because this is dangerous territory.

Hopefully the new CEO looks at their new standard format business model and realizes that it is disenfranchising players from playing standard. Eventually lowering their sales because ever increasing price of standard. While wizards has diversified their products heavily to pull money from all formats of magic that they can more recently. I've talked to a lot of people who just think playing standard is just crazy these days. Another thing is wizards used to give prize support to stores for tournaments free of charge. That's gone and prize support is completely dependent on the store owner. This results in smaller prizes or increased tournament prices. Over all it's super negative the direction standard is going in. Wizards has continually removed player rewards. There is a big reason that most of the player base went to modern and EDH. It's not to spend money on standard anymore. I just don't think their pricing method is going to function anymore.
Right now SCG has some standard booster boxes on sale for $80 each or $2.22 a pack. The usual price to buy a booster box is about $90 or $2.50 a pack. There is literally no money equivalent for buying a pack anymore for at the MSRP of $4. You'd be out of your mind to pay $4 for a booster pack these days. There is some major disconnect. Just to compare a brand new deck of bicycle cards =56 cards costs $4. So even at $2.50 a pack everyone buying a pack is still massively over paying. While wizards still turns a profit. huh.......just some thoughts. Every time I try to get back into standard it just sucks. Then I go back to playing modern and EDH. They really need to balance the way their value is distribution out between their packs. There needs to be useful valuable uncommons and the preferable elimination of mythic rarity.

Come on man, I don't play standard or have any intention of playing standard but you are massively missing the picture by generalizing yourself and your friends into who is paying 4 bucks a pack.

There are TONS of people out there who are paying 4 bucks a pack at Walmart aren't playing at your LGS, and people playing modern with you aren't the players playing standard.

You are associating with people like you which is warping your idea of the average player.

As Palefang (a french deckbuilder) said on another forum : Thing in ice looks pretty solid in UnStorm. It's an alternative kill, an early wall against aggro decks, it's in the deck main colors and it can often be flipped by turn 3.
Do you think he is right ? And if he is, do you think its price can go up ?

Almost impossible. It's a rare from what could be the most opened set in history. Even if storm became the top deck in Modern, Legacy, and vintage I can't see this going up above $20. If you want to bet on this card in storm buy other storm pieces.

I second never pre order anything.

It's like investing in individual stocks. You have to beat the market to win and you have to be arrogant or stupid to think you can beat the market.

I've been saying forever that you ban temple.

Temple+Vasuva is still ridiculous. It's cloud post.

People completely overestimate only Eye of Ugin. Dumping your hand with eye of ugin isn't any more broken then infect, burn, or any other tier 1 deck. This isn't a control deck which is getting 2 off every draw spell. It's a creature deck. They can only play so many cards a turn after they burn their hand.

Eldrazi is a total oddball and you can't make long term analysis based on it.

It's hands down the best deck in the format and something will be banned from it in 3 months. U/R could very well be completely viable again after that

The big difference between modern and standard is that modern cards still retain value after "Rotation" especially if you are playing a value deck rather then a combo deck. Although it's frustrating if Twin is your favorite deck, at least you can hop on the train of another deck. With standard you have to rebuy in all over again.

Standard decks go from being worth hundreds to being worthless. I understand the frustration but it isn't remotely the same thing for people like me who avoid standard like the plague because it is a money pit.

    Do you need the money?

    If yes, sell.

Modern staples do appear to be on the decline so holding on to wait and see seems like a safe route, especially if you might still be interested in playing.

    I saw this article: http://www.moxboardinghouse.com/media/modern-no-banned-list/
And it got me thinking about what would happen if every card was unbanned. Would the format be fun like this article seems to suggest? Personally if this could be a balanced format I'd love to play it.

I think painters servant is a huge overreaction. It's a super fragile answer.

If you have any sell now.

I'm now rooting that nothing gets banned just because of how irrationally angry many of you are at a new deck showing up.

I think the restricted list is a good idea, temple ban is probably going to happen, and even the mimic ban is an interesting possibility. Anything that keeps the deck around to add more diversity is sweet.

But no bans at all would make everyone here furious and I kind of want the people who are saying they would quit modern over this to quit modern. I don't want to play with those people.

I'm just glad this thread doesn't make banning decisions.

Ban everything besides my deck basically.

Also, only banning temple won't affect tron and will most likely not kill the eldrazi deck.

    Come on guys this.

I know you guys don't like the Eldrazi deck.

But we can neuter the deck without burning it to the ground.

Ban eye of ugin and the deck no longer exists. Ban temple and it takes a huge blow to its consistency.

    Let's also ban steel overseer.

Takes affinity down a notch. Promotes control decks.

Also lets ban Might of Old Krosa.

Takes infect down a notch. Promotes control decks.

Also lets ban Eidolon of the great revel.

Takes Budn down a notch. Promotes control decks.

We going to go down this path?

I was about to go nuts on this post until I saw your last sentence. Cheers on that.

Unbans. New answers to check the new threats. That's what this format needs. EVENTUALLY everything is to strong when compared to something else. Power CAN NOT be measured in a vacuum. If the whole format was vanilla creatures and doom blades, eventually the most 'pushed' vanilla creatures 'break' that format.

New answers are never going to enter this format, good reactive cards would warp standard too much.

I don't disagree - they need to change the way that cards can enter modern. Period.

This is a good idea. Same way they impact Legacy.
