Feb 4, 2014Ctatyk posted a message on Launch Giveaway!Kird Ape would have to be my favorite because I played Gruul way before there was a Gruul. Something about hitting someone second turn with a Kird Ape that had been stoked with Giant Growth or Blood Lust was just entertaining.Posted in: Announcements

It's not like the kid was getting rich off of this.
If the other kids didn't want to pay the money, they wouldn't have.
Get over it. Entrepreneurship isn't a bad thing. That's what built the United States.

He received an offer from a new employer which was close enough that he was not going to have to relocate.
He used this as leverage with his current employer and they came back with an offer that, when you take out the extra travel that he was going to have to do, pretty much matched the new employer. So, my friend decided to stay where he was.
He was very happy with the new money (approx $6K/year) for about 2 months.
Then, the employer decided that he was needed in a different position at a pay cut of $10K/year.
The problem was that they pretty much knew that they owned him because he'd burned his bridges by not taking that position with the new employer.
That was just over a year ago.
Cut to today...
He has now opened his own dental lab and after 3 months, it is already turning a profit (small profit...but 3 months is out of this world for being able to be making more money than you have going out!!).
My advice, if you're interested in the move & the new position, why would you not take the new position?
Wrestling Observer - Have some friends who are involved in the professional "wrestling" game, so it's fun to hear about them sometimes...plus, they cover MMA as well.
Leo Laporte - Tech advice show...been hearing from him all the way back when he had a tv show on TechTV.
The Unexplained - Brit guy talking about paranormal stuff...does it get more fun?
We're Alive - "Zombie" serial that is pretty well done.
Welcome to Nightvale - Hilarious oddity.
A few different Bigfoot/sasquatch podcasts - Not because I believe, but because I find them to be HILARIOUS while I'm at work!
A few different Magic podcasts....Judgecast, At Your End Step, Monday Night Magic
Guess that it's a good thing that I can listen to this stuff while I'm actually working. Also proves that I'm not very important where I work....
Casual reading: The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan/Brandon Sanderson
Television: How I Met Your Mother...Sorry, only kidding. NOTHING compares to Mork & Mindy!!
Movies: Kind of hard to top Lord of the Rings for sheer story arc.
My favorite of these....The Wheel of Time.
Oddly enough, I'm a morning person, but on weekends, I tend to stay up until the sun is up or beyond, so no worries there.
The LGS that I'm going to is a smaller store, but it's the only one in town, so it might have a decent turn-out. I'm figuring that the midnight event might be better for a n00b than the Saturday afternoon as there should be fewer people. I'm not much on crowds (conventions & major events freak me out).
Pad of paper, pens, dice, small trade binder, couple of standard decks, sleeves (with pre-sleeved lands), playmat, a couple of drinks, and a relaxed me....
You mean that I get to play some Limited Magic AND drink AND have it exclusive to only those over 21? I'm in...Hell, I'll pay a little more than I'd pay in a LGS.
Though, sometimes those of us who are "casual" know a bit about trading cards.
I went to a convention and I had a couple Bonfire of the Damned with me along with some other trade bait.
It seemed like everyone was afraid that they were taking advantage of me. What I finally convinced them of is that so long as both sides of the trade are happy with the outcome, then the trade is fair.
I traded a single Bonfire to another player for the Player Reward foil Lightning Bolt and he insisted that I take more cards because the Bonfire was worth more. I finally allowed him to force a few other cards on me.
Current value:
Bonfire: I can pick one up for less than $5
Player Reward Lightning Bolt: Good luck finding one for less than $15 in NM.
So, Casual players sometimes play a longer game.
I organize my cards by color and then alphabetically.
If I do break into Standard sometime, I'll probably take the time to break it down by set as well. (I probably should anyway as that would make organizing each of them as I buy new cards)
Once I'm home, Iced tea....or Rum & Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper....or Peach Vodka shots with Diet Dew chasers....or perhaps some scotch. I have a couple of different ones to try that I've not even opened yet.
Most likely though...Tea.
I'd like to check out Zombicide, but that might require more of a commitment than I can get from my friends.
Missouri (MIZZOU) Tigers

Philadelphia Eagles
My GF likes the Dallas Cowboys. This makes for some interesting conversations since they're division rivals with the Eagles.
I was on a hiatus from Magic during the time that Conflux was released and I wanted to draft from it. As it turns out, VERY fun to draft from.
So, in answer to your question: Yes, people actually buy those.
Battletech - Played this one quite a bit as well and got involved in some local tourneys. Had a great time playing, but not enough people that I knew were playing, so it lost its luster pretty quickly.
We didn't play it, but someone gave us a bunch of boxes of Banemaster. If you ever see this game, don't touch it, it'll lower your IQ just by touching the outside of a box. We tried to play, but it didn't seem to really have rules.
Rage - I played some, but didn't have enough friends who were interested and it fell by the wayside quickly.
I tried a bunch of other games, but just couldn't get into them.
