Has anyone experimented with putting, as a friend said, silver bullets into their sideboard? Cards like
    etc?
Yes it hurts us, but to be able to cascade T2-T3 into an answer to **** a lot of decks over seem like an interesting idea.

Funnily enough, our answer against burn used to be sideboarding RB out and kor firewalker in. The deck shifted away from that, though, as it’s an all-in play on a strategy our deck doesn’t synergize with.

I enjoy Wells’s writing except for how she approaches sentences that contain dialogue. The dialogue is great, but I don’t like seeing the word “said” almost every time someone speaks.

I agree, Neo. If they had her write a book, I would definitely have bought some for myself and friends. Missed opportunity, imo.

Yes, I think its pretty ridiculous for Urza to predict the entire events of Time Spiral to make this Puzzle Work.

Again, he didn't have to predict all of Time Spiral.

Urza knew Teferi phased out Zhalfir and parts of Shiv.
Urza knew Jhoira left with Teferi.
Urza knew Jhoira cared about Shiv.
Urza knew Teferi loved Jhoira even though she didn't return his feelings.
Urza knew Teferi cared about Zhalfir
Urza evidently researched how to repair time rifts.

We know that repairing a time rift costs a spark or something of similar power (given Urza's research, he could reasonably know this as well).

It's not all that difficult to predict how things would go down: Teferi would seek out a method to bring back Zhalfir after losing his spark bringing back the bits of Shiv for Jhoira.

When? He never had time to act even if he knew that. He didn’t expect Teferi to phase out Zhalfir and Shiv. Urza was in the middle of a war against Phyrexia. He died at the end of the war. Not once did he have the opportunity to set up this puzzle.

How does one justify playing a 5 drop without haste that dies to lightning strike before even getting to attack, this card just seems like a wasted turn.

Simple. When you cast it, look your opponent dead in the eye and say “yiggity Yargle, I’ve come to bargle,” and watch them surrender in fear.

Never side out? I often do side them out when I know I’ll be facing excessive artifact hate.

All because it is the head of another deck doesn’t mean we can’t benefit from it’s capabilities. Azusa is another deck that we play parts.

Patron of the Moon isn’t an extra land drop card, it’s a combo piece. You play it after an Ad Naus of anyhing that draws you a bunch of lands. You play it with lotus cobra. You play it with Amulet of Vigor and Trade Routes (or anything that returns lands to hand) to go infinite landfall or even infinite mana with any land that taps for more than one. It’s one of the cards that lets me go “and I now win the game.”

EDIT: I should add, I’m not too dedicated to the CoA plan. I prefer to focus more on control, pillow fort, and combo and use my commander as a utility piece that I can loop if absolutely necessary. I prefer to win by going infinite or punching people in the face with goats the size of armies.

I’m going to try running both. I’ve debated running Nissa, Vital Force in my list for a while for her ult, but I don’t want to put pressure on being able to ult her. Having a creature that let’s me do that is wonderful, but I’d rather remove a higher cmc card than HoG. Getting to draw twice off my land drops feels nice and people tend to not feel inclined to off my Horn (politics and all that jazz).

Also, it’s been a long while since I posted in this thread. I need to catch up on how recent cards have changed peoples’ list. On the Ad Nauseum discussion earlier, remember that Ad also combos well with anything that reveals the top card of your library, so you can cheat on the life loss by making sure you stop at a nonland that’ll hurt. I, personally, love ad nauseum and highly recommend it.

Also, does nobody run Patron of the Moon any more? I know the casting cost it clunky, but no other card does what it does so well and it has so many combos available that naturally synergize our builds.

I’d do it if I had the time. I’d also nominate Jenn, but I haven’t seen them in a while, so they’re probably busy as bees, too. I’m not fully sure.

    Karn seems strong with us.

And yes, the primer has been in dire need of an update for a while.

I heavily disagree with the logic behind not running Nahiri. Something being an “obvious staple” (which Nahiri isn’t) doesn’t mean you shouldn’t play it because they won’t expect that. Jund without bolts gets significantly worse. Control without snapcaster. Eldrazi Tron without Thought-Knot. Tron without Karn. The reason something is an obvious staple is because it’s really strong in the list and synergizes well.

I mainboard 2 of my BW (I’ll probably up the count for Jace).

I, personally, wouldn’t run either of those. RB does what KR does but better. The only other sweeper I run is Anger of the Gods because of the exile clause.

I, too, am curious as to the details of F9’s matches. Beating Pyromancer then losing to it piques my interest. Also, that game loss to Valakut interests me. As someone that has faced Valakut over 100 times (I did a lot of playtesting) and never once dropped a game, even on mulligans to 4, I am always curious when I see a game loss to them.

A long time ago, builds played Oblivion Ring. That has since been phased out in favor of Beast Within and, on occasion, Detention Sphere (which I see as a meta call, considering BW is just more versatile).

Cast Out and Ixalan’s Binding are downgrades from what we’ve streamlined into.

I’m still not sold on Chandra. I have 3 of them wasting away in my collection, but I really don’t see a place for them in here.

@F97302012 (curious name, btw), how often did Demonic Dread not having a target become a problem? It’s been a talking point for a while and in some metas it is almost unplayable.

@Gearhulk Nahiri’s Wrath requires too much setup to be good. Yes, we want to dump our hand, but not that fast and it sometimes won’t even do anything except discard us cards. March of the Machines was another card that was played in early adaptations of this deck, but it’s since been phased out due to the amount of artifact hate and setup required to win with it. Ghirapur was mentioned when it first came out as a potential sideboard card, but with all the board hate against artifacts, it didn’t make the cut.

On the subject of split cards, Wear // Tear is the best, as Loki stated, but some people experimented with Research // Development to some success. Prior to the rules change boom//bust was a popular card because we could cascade into it and nuke all the lands. Apart from that, I don’t think there have been many good split cards for our deck.

On cutting the spirit guides for lands, I think 3 is the minimum number of guides to run. The ability to balance without them expecting one is huge, especially once they know what you’re on.

Also, I’d say wiping their mana is just as effective as it used to be. What makes you say it isn’t?

I feel like a Jace build would be more blue focused, running Jace instead of Nahiri.

Jace’s fateseal is incredibly powerful after a balance.
Jace’s Brainstorm helps recover from balances, save discarding cards from balance, and lets you put balance on top of the library in order to cascade into it.
Jace’s bounce can remove some problem creatures but also bounce Gargodons so you can sacrifice again.

The main problem with Jace is that we’d have to orient towards blue. I’m debating if Jace is the missing link to a blue-focused cascade-less balance, but I kinda don’t want to try.
