  • posted a message on Commander Masters Commander decks face cards reveal: Anikthea, Sliver Gravemother, Zhulodok (new Eldrazi) and Commodore Guff
Commodore Guff is literally straight thrash, horrible even as commander. Extremely weak and disappointing, and I'm talking as a superfriend lover that always put at minimum from 10 to 20 Planeswalkers in all his decks. Also where the hell is his signature thing, rewriting history? None of his abilities hints at that. They could literally taked any other Planeswalker for such generic and bland abilities.

The Eldrazi on the other hand is absolutely fantastic and will be probably one of the best colorless generals ever.

Sliver legend is very interesting, very "timmy/johnny" card, will lead to interesting interactions.

Abzan enchantress is just meh. We already got our definitive graveyard recurring enchantment legend and is the pentacolor Go-Shintai, and hardly it will ever be beaten.

Aside from Maraleaf Pixie and Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief, there's maybe one other green Faerie you'd want to include in a commander deck (Scryb Ranger).

    Oh, really?

Faerie Noble is literally a Lord for Fairies in monogreen.
Willow Priestess even cheat out fairies from hand to play for FREE and even gain additional protection abilities on green creatures.
Those cards are MADE for being a fairy tribal, and currently not a single sultai legendary creature is remotely appropriate in both flavor or mechanics for a Sultai fairy tribal. Eldraine was the PERFECT choice exactly because it got fairies of all 3 colors. (not to mention they would do al 100% new UG or UGB fairies in said deck besides the general if they were willing to make a sultai fairy deck)

Not to mention how extremely useful is green for tribal purposes. Descendant Path, Lurking Predators and Realmwalker would play you out fairies from topdeck, Steely Resolve would give a huge protection bonus to your fairies, lots of green enchantments that doubles your fairy tokens, Beastmaster Ascension for the swarm strategy, Seedborn Muse for all UB fairies with flash ability and I could go on over and over.

So no, adding green to fairy, wouldn't add just "1 or 2" relevant cards for the tribe, but would unlock an entire new world completely synergicistic with the tribe and there's literally not a single good reason of why Fairies can't have green but dumb Warriors are pentacolors and have access even to blue, the least warriory color ever.

EDIT: Oh, and also we got only 3 monowhite fairies in all the entire game (plus other crappy 3 white/blue) but apparently this was enough of a good reason to make an Esper Fairy tribal the first time we went to eldraine. How hypocritical, really.

Oh, there's a UB "Fae Dominion" commander precon. I still think of Eldraine as a discount Lorwyn of sorts, but more Dimir faeries are always a good thing

Still no Sultai Faerie tribal in a set that literally have also UG faeries with stuff like Maraleaf Pixie? Boo

All right, I am a big fan of MtG card editors like Magic Set Editor or Card Conjurer, problem that both are missing all the templates, showcase frames and entire card types WotC made the last 12 months, specifically I'm talking about :

    - Phyrexian planeswalker template

    - Unfinity galaxy showcase template

    - Attraction subtype template

    - Prototype template ability from Brother's War

    - All Will Be One full art basic lands

    - "Crystal"Ikoria showcase template (ex: all the companions from March of the Machine Multiverse Legend Bonus Sheet)

    - "Ravnican" showcase template (ex: Aurelia the Warleader from March of the Machine Multiverse Legend Bonus Sheet)

    - "Dragon" showcase template (ex: Anafenza, Kin Tree Spirit from March of the Machine Multiverse Legend Bonus Sheet)

    - Eldraine showcase template on non-Adventure spells (ex.: Ayara, First of Lochtwain from March of the Machine Multiverse Legend Bonus Sheet)

    - Ixalan showcase template "Atzecan" style (ex: Captain Lannery Storm from March of the Machine Multiverse Legend Bonus Sheet)

    - Battle card Template

any of you know if anybody made this templates available somewhere on any program or website or is currently working on on them?

    It is really a 3-for-1

Seems you keep ignoring that not all 3-for-1 are the same, and the Vorinclex one is one of the worst I ever saw. Even a 2-1 "draw-a-card" would be much more better than his "3-1" fetch 2 forest like 99% of the time.

but if you want to ignore the power and toughness

Which are again, totally unimpressive for green standards. Unless you consider Colossaw Dreadmaw a competitive staple. Even Sheoldred and Gitaxias has much more aggressive stats compared to their mana costs and colors.

So far, only Jin protects itself (and ward 2 isn't that much).

For sure it's still better than total zero protection of Vorinclex. Even Elesh Norn protects herself better than him, and Sheoldred doesn't need protection as she do value and real impact in the same moment she hit the board.
The more you argue in defense on him, the stronger you coinvince me that vorinclex just taked the short srraw of the 4.

Don't feel the need to argue further about which of these bombs is bombier than the others.

I guess facts will talk better than judgding in a vacuum. Let's check again some months later and see how Vocinclex gonna show up on top tiers decks compared to the other Praetors (I doubt it).

This is a 3-for-1 when it enters the battlefield, so I think it's plenty strong enough.

Eh not really, total depends on the quality of these "3-for-1". Fetching 2 forest at 5 mana is...really bad rate, doesn't help you from mana screw and, doesn't even ramp you. And in late game they are as well as total dead draws.

I'm fine with the green one being less jaw-dropping on the last saga chapter.

The only real good ability of Vorinclex is just the first chapter. Everything else goes to mediocre to even useless. 6/6 trample at 5 with no protective ability it's absolutely nothing special at green, it's just a bit better Colossal Dreadmaw. Transform ability requires lots of mana and could die anytime before it even reach 8 mana (and obviously they can kill in resp of transformation). Fetching 2 lands in hand is super redudant at 5 mana. Second and third chapter are awful if there's no creatures, so yeah the winmore thing is fitting.

I don't see how you can deny that so far it's the worst Praetor of this cycle.

Overall based on this one single card, battles seem a little underpowered if anything, which is probably a good thing.

Based on only a single card, you can talk about the power level of only this single card. This uncommon literally says nothing about the power level potential of battles. They can be broken exactly as balanced or even underwhelming, based on rarities and infinite other factors, pretty much exactly like every other card type. Even the most broken and warped-format thing in history, the Companion mechanic, had Keruga but that doesn't mean that if you watch Keruga as your first previewed companion card you could ever guess if companion it's overall ok or broken mechanic on other things. It totally depends what they decide that are these things, and you can't never guess that from a single card.

I don't see any reason this should be its own card-type and evergreen. It's not blowing me away. Tribal seems more noteworthy and they stopped doing Tribal.

Players can directly attack a card type that's not a planeswalker. Not only that, but unlike planeswalkers, it's not you, but your opponents actually that have to defend it and your job is to deplenish his counters in order to "defeat it", another unique concept never seen before in paper Magic. Not to mention how even visually this got a template so unique you can't even look straight this card in order to read it. It even got his own subtypes and good luck on defending the position that a card should have subtypes of something that is already a subtype if this wasn't a card type. If all this package together doesn't sound enough a novelty to justify a new card type, I don't know what would make it for you.

This deserves much more his card type than Instants deserve to have it's own card type (as MaRo said many times, if they had to redo Magic all over, Instant would be just a subtype of sorceries). Or global Enchantment/Artifacts for that matter, seeing how mechanically they can be absolutely identical nowadays and now only the flavor differentiate them enough to justify them as separate card types (one could argue you could batch them together in something called like "Artificial" permanents, opposed to natural and living things and that's why Return to Nature and many cards can destroy always both).

If anything, for a whole new card type that should be core of the game and evergreen in every set like every card type I'm bothered they choosed to call them "Battles" and not something more generic that could fit from a flavor perspective, in many more things, like Quests or Missions or Events for example, that could include Battles, but not only (so this card could had been something like "Quest - Battle"). But "Battle - Siege" seems already a bit too narrow for my tastes, and doesn't leave creatively space for non-combat based things, and this potential feels kinda wasted, especially since we just discovered you don't even need to attack with creatures in order to defeat a battle.

Terrible design. overcomplicated and annoying. Discourages attacking the player like walkers so makes aggro suck more. I hope they are all awful

I think you simply didn't get how Battles actually work. Aggro decks aren't remotely harmed by this.

Seems I was completely right about the planechase-esque nature, arts and template of Battles.

This is an idea that people already did with a Custom-made format, Commander Adventures. I'm happy that this mechanic is a real thing of the game now.

and WAR is a also a STANDARD set like MOM/MOTM
Urza and Mishra has multiple CREATURE CARD representation in the recent sets

WAR is a unique case in 30 years of history of game, and could only happened because it was a 36 PW set, which is something that this set is NOT. Repeating it won't make you more right.
Urza and Mishra were the absolute main protagonists of Brother War set, exactly as Chandra was the main protagonist of Core Set 20 and thats why she appeared also multiple times. Thalia, as all the episodes of march of the machines proves, it's so marginal she barely is even mentioned at all. If even this doesn't convince you, is not my problem bud.

there is no point to persist of whether she not or will be because there is a rumor and im just asking of thought about her being dual color PW

Everybody already answered and already gave their toughts on the matter. It's a rumor that doesn't make any sense for this set. She's monowhite as usual and her card is in Abzan color exclusively because of the Gitrog Monster, which is BG. There's nothing that should make us think that she will be a PW or dual colored for this set. Period.

You are delusional. We all bringed here multiple and extremely convincing arguments of why Thalia can't be a PW in this set. Color balance issues. No story relevance at all. Already got her card and as a creature. That she appear among the planeswalkers (among many others non-planeswalkers characters from every other plane) simply because the realmbreaker connect every world together in this moment. That the are precise contexts and reasons of why make sense to make a character appearing on multiple cards in the same main set and this simply isn't the case. You can ignore the arguments all time you want, but that won't change the reality. Check again this thread after MoM spoilers ends to see how silly were your wishful thinking arguments all along.

OK, but your 3/3 goes away after Wrenn dies

A 3 cmc Planeswalker that go up to 4 loyalty and protects himself with untargettable creature while adding loyalty it's pretty hard it dies soon. The moment it dies he already give so much tempo or card advantage that was definitely worth having him around.

you only ever get one and it only taps for 1 mana. Nissa doesn't need a minus because her static is worth it anyway.

Nissas passive ability now are just a winmore, she ramps you when you got already lots of mana, in fact she doesn't see any play in eternal formats exactly for that reason. All Wreen abilities are just so much more useful and versatile for so many more decks than Nissa, and the fact you can turn 2 Wreen is just huge and cannot be dismissed, his impact in play is way more aggresive and overall useful than Nissa.

I'm not even saying it's bad, just not broken.

I think we can safely say that if this card gonna see both eternal and standard play while nissa only saw standard play, it's because this is overall superior.

So since Elspeth is revealed as White Walker?

Do you guys still believe the RUMOR on Thalia becoming a MONO White walker too?

Or She might be turned as a Selenya Walker or a Boros Walker instead of being MONO.

or she be just a creature.

Correct me if im wrong the last standard set that I see white has multiple MONO WALKER was WAR of the spark.

So do you think their would be 2 white walker in this set or not?

We literally have Thalia appear in Thalia and the Gitrog Monster as a creature, so there's literally zero reason we should see her appear in another card or as a planeswalker.

Correct me if im wrong the last standard set that I see white has multiple MONO WALKER was WAR of the spark.

WAR was also a 36 planeswalkers set. It was not a normal set. We can't use it as reference for nothing for normal sets.
Also yes, Elsepth is already revealed as the monowhite PW of the set, so that put the final nail in the coffin for color balance reasons.
