So can you cast both halves without paying the mana cost, or just one?

The reason I see people don't understand is because they don't fully know the rules of ability cost and abilities. that seems the main problem. It's like when people try to use an ability is reposnse to a sac ability. Most people don't know that the speed at which the cost goes effectively goes around the stack

    -1 ugin
    +1 hornet queen
Replace the wayfinders with something else. Probably with better draw spells that won't get rid of your own spells. 3 elspeths might be a bit too many. Maybe drop to 2 and add another kiora
other than that, maybe add another aetherspouts and a few Sylvan caryatids

I can't give answers to all of your questions but I can say that yawgmoth got a portal made from dominaria to phyrexia, but it was built by the planeswalker Dyfed. there are most likely people interested in visiting other planes but creating a portal to another plane would require a lot of investment and knowledge of the multiverse, thus planeswalkers would be necessary for the creation. Also, most don't have the materials to make a portal, as the thran had powerful but highly dangerous energy sources.

Planeswalkers do think that not everyone should planeswalk because it would disrupt the planes and possibly cause something similar to what the phyrexians or eldrazi have done. also, what would you feel if you were one of the most powerful people, able to travel through the universe? Would you like everyone to do the same? Do you want to become normal again?

For the block based on plane hopping, do the core sets make sense? They are based on the whole multiverse but when you use the core set, it just seems like some random pile of cards right? The sets are based on plane to keep a story and not overload you with information. It keeps it organized, allows lore to be created, and makes the game interesting. So I don't believe there will be blocks like that, though maybe two planes could work together, like how yawgmoth had his portal to phyrexia

if anyone wants to run a more combo focus in their deck, Dragon throne of tarkir works very well with colossus of akros scuttling doom engine and anything that is big. I run it with the colossus and can swing turn 4/5 with 10/10 tramples and fliers. It wouldnt work well in the aggro style affinity but it works fantastically with ramp and midrange style decks.

  • posted a message on Clans lose a color in DTK
in the lore, I assume the clans all took the enemy color to defeat the dragons, who were their dual allied colors. So temur took blue to beat Starks and etc. Without the dragons weakening, the clans sided with the dragons and just use the colors of the dragons. So lore wise, they will be dual allied colors

  • posted a message on Speculating on the other 4 new clan mechanics
The mechanics will be like the originalppst said more barbaric and less refined seeming. Based on how alesha and daghatar work with dash and bolster. I think that the new mechanics will be:
jeskai-when you vast a noncreature, give your creatures an ability. Since the jeskai are still very intelligent, they might not change from prowess. Also considering how monastery mentor is, this helps push for keeping prowess, though it doesn't make this seem fair, so who knows.
temur- thinking of yasova and how they ability will seem more raw, it might have an ability similar to "if you control the creature with the highest power" or a etb trigger with that. The frf temur cards seem to have a bounce ability on a good bit of cards, so that may be their ability.
sultai- the sibsig seem to be a popular group of zombies in old tarkir and with tasigur, I think that the ability will be the generic "top cards in graveyard" and "return card from graveyard"
These are just my thoughts on what they might be but hopefully they are close!

Sorry for not reading some of the newer stuff, but the argument against hybrids needs to consider this. Hybrids and gold cards are different. Gold mixes the two colors to create some combination that holds elements of both colors. Hybrid on the other hand finds something similar with the two colors and uses that, allowing it to see. mechanically as either of its colors. Hybrid cards were supposed to answer the question of "how do we make a card that fits in both white and black without making two copies of it with different colors (unmake being 1 B B and another unmake being 1 W W. Yes there are hybrid cards that act mechanically as gold cards, but that was due to bad design (typically older cards) that were made to be more easily cast than gold cards. My stand in edu ruling is that hybrid cards should be playable, but only use the colors of your commander to cast them (don't use black mana to cast unmake in a mono w). I do think that wizards does need to clarify what the difference in gold and hybrid is though and create more consistent differences in them.

this is what I have tested a few matches with. combo the dragon throne of tarkir with either the colossus of akros or soul of new phyrexia and can make my small creatures into 7/7s or 11/11s and swing. typically can get out a colossus-throne combo on turn 5 or so. on the down side, i do stall out very fast when i cast all of my cards this fast, but the stubborn denials, ugin, and tombs can help me outlast the other player

Yeah I guess so. But it has NO evasion other than flying. I cant see this ever being able to actually hit for 12. There's so much removal, and dying to a stoke the flames is just terrible. I would rather have it cost less, have better power/toughness, and a worse ability. Mardu basically has a 5/5 for 5 cmc with haste. I would have taken a 5/6 for 6cmc and trample. Or even NO abilities other than flying for that cost. Maybe im just a dreamer

how many standard cards that have flying are actually run in decks? besides wingmate roc and maybe stormbreath dragon, i cant think of any. yes he can die to the stormbreath, but will still get through it with 8 damage, not even counting your other creatures attacking. there are many red and especially green cards that can buff him up and make him be able to live through burns. you also have to look at what cards you will play with him. xenagod would make him win a game the turn he comes out, including become immense and titanic growth. also, for 7 cmc, you will most likely be getting him out around turn 4 or 5 or so, based on most g/r beatdown decks. so by the time you get to turn 5, you would have already dealt more than 8 damage to the other player. nylea's bow, titans strength, and anything that would give him a +1/+1 counter would be enough to save him from any single burn. any other colors with exiling, destroying, and countering, you would have the same problem with 95% of other cards.

On cards like Izzet Charm, the choice of which ability you want to happen is done after it resolves, correct?
And on spells like voyage's end, do you select the target before it resolves or after?

Ive had a question about those choices for a while and wasn't exactly sure when they are chosen

There are a lot of journey into nyx threads, but I haven't found one specifically for the new gods. we all know what the new gods names are and their colors, but what are their titles? what are there abilities going to be?

    Keranos RU
    Pharika BG
    Kruphix GU
    Iroas RW
    Athreos WB

based on what the other gods have done, their cards that go along with themselves (i.e. Disciple of Phenax) have gone along with the essential theme of the gods, but not specifically the same ability (Phenax, god of deception mills, but overall theme of BU is getting rid of cards)

With this, I have guessed that Kruphix has something to do with beginning of turn actions. First, he is the god of dawn(early morning) and card]agent of horizons[/card] flavor texts talks about kruphix's followers go out before the dawn. this makes me think he has to do with actions that happen at the beginning of your turn and other actions that happen early on.

i dont look much at white-black, but i think Athreos, ferryman of the underworld, will have to do with creatures being destroyed and being brought back. he might give all creautres regenerate for their mana cost or something similar, or something like (whenever an enemy creature dies, bring back a creature with the same cmc from your graveyard)

Keranos will obviously have to with instants and sorceries, being red and blue. He wont have a scry in his ability, as most of the theros block instants and sorceries run scry, but he will maybe have an ability that allows you to keep cards you scry(when you scry, you may keep an instant of sorcery) because he is the god of visions.

Pharika is the god of healing and poison, and many of her cards are removal(gorgons, deathtouch, -x/-x, etc.), but she won't have the same abilities as Vraska or Liliana, so killing creatures who deal damage to you or giving -x/-x wont be her ability. but I have no clue what her ability would be, except something that heals each time a creature dies or something or the sort

Iroas is the god of honor and victory. The priest of iroas and acolyte's reward make me believe that he will have to do with the combat step. He doesn't want outside sources to get in the way of combat and wants it to be mono e mono. I would guess that his ability would be something like "target creature has to block this turn" or "creatures must block this creature" or something of the sort.

Please leave your thoughts on the gods and leave reasoning instead of leaving random guesses.
