I was excited when I saw "instant" and then sad when I saw "nonland." Is a Vindicate reprint really too much to ask for? The Exile part is nice, but I wish it could kill lands.
quit wishing and just play the game. if you want to play vindicate so badly then play legacy. vindicate is too strong for standard, and WoTC ought to know that.
good card, but 4CMC is a lot for a kill spell. but maybe it won't be that bad when ran in abzan since they can ramp.
Grey Merchant of Asphodel should definitely be on this list. MBD wouldn't be as good as it is today without it; pack rat and desecration demon are good quality cards, but Grey merchant hits the nail on the head. doing 6 points of life drain on turn 5 is pretty devastating.
I think the reason why Lifebane Zombie is so great right now is that other than R and B, other colors don't have the good means dealing damage to creatures. One of those cards being polukranos, but it gets hit by lifebane. If there is a card that can do that, it probably doesn't see a lot of play in the metagame. And the most effective and played removal comes from b/x and u/x(w)
personally I don't mind mutavault in the format; you can play them to put them in the red zone and sacrifice playing colored mana. I'll waste a kill spell on that, thanks.
boros charm shouldn't even be mentioned here. It's good but not game defining
Domri/Xenagos package = not very exciting. Domri is a great card, but he was needed in G/R since he was the only card that granted some card advantage for a while, yet it still bricks. Xenagos is good, but he is still pretty meh. Once Ravnica rotates out, I would rather see a Xenagos/Elspeth package. I think that the way they interact is pretty fun and dangerous.
.
I feel like the other colors are exponentially weak compared to MBD and MuD. I doubt the meta will change until RTR rotates.
Why are people still commenting on this. Nothing happened to the meta whatsoever.
Seriously, this is full of people talking about basically nothing, just a bunch of what ifs.
with a lot of great cards in the RTR block for R/x aggro (R/W specifically, Ash Zealot, Boros Reckoner, precinct captain, etc.) what are the cards that are going to replace their spot?
I'm looking forward to Tethmos High Priest since it reanimates your creatures Iroas, God of victory since he gives all of your creatures evasion and prevents damage to your attacking creatures Glimpse the sun god and Launch the Fleet because I think those two cards are in the top 5 cards for heroic activation even though heroic is an underwhelming mechanic. It taps your opponents creatures and you swing.
but those are a few examples.
but still it looks like aggro decks will be slow down again and become less explosive.
Should there be a ban? No. Absolutely not. There is no oppresive deck in standard right now. My only question is how do you make this list and not include Sphinx's Rev?
this. ^
imo sphinx's rev is the best card in the format. it's too good.
Thoughtseize is a very potent card too, but I'd like it (for balancing purp) if the player were to take 3 life instead of 2.
As much as I love his abilities, I can't honestly see U/R being able to push out enough permanents to keep him a creature (in standard)
Indeed. He comes out too late for his abilities to matter, and the color combination doesn't really push enough permanents to make him a threat. I don't think this card has a home outside of Commander.
late = control's game
keranos, to me, isn't meta game changing, but certainly game-breaking in a control u/w/r shell; both of his abilities are relevant (draw cards, or bolt a creature [and we all know a great target in our current meta right now] or a player).
especially with dissolve as a staple in control, it helps you fix your draws.
scry lands, they also help fix your draws. and after jace's -2 ability, you can drop a scryland and go to town.
depending on a "maybe" should only occur once you're on the edge of losing. we all had times where what we receive in our topdeck is out of our control. during the drawstep without keranos, you do not depend on the action of you drawing a single card (no matter what it is) will help you out of a situation, so why would you here? because it doesn't do what you want? neither does the top of the deck. keranos adds another dimension of play just like the other gods do.
the only time keranos is not very effective is when you skip your draw step. from what we have seen from cards like erebos and purphoros, the gods do not have to be creatures to be as effective. actually, the gods are more vulnerable as creatures than they are as enchantments. it is sometimes may be a blessing in disguise.
1. keranos
2. dictate of the twin gods
3. extinguish all hope
4. silence the believers
5. eidolon of great revel (flavorful and tastes good)

lol don't be a control freak. control deserves to lose. control is like the govt of meta and majority of the people hate it.
and
omg only 61 card out of 269 card spioled #whoa this set is crap.

draw a lot of cards and play expensive creatures at instant speed. that's how i like to play magic.
obv. this will push damage through and make our red white weenies walk passed a sylvan caryatid.
very bad ass card.
chancellor of the forge makes goblin tokens
vicious shadows is very good against board wipes.
i do love red, and i love this card, but in this standard format, he won't get to shine much imo.
he reminds me of how pack rat should be played. "great turn 2 play if your opponent has no answer, otherwise a turn 5 play"
play on turn 4 to hold up a 2 mana burn spell maybe? i don't know.
3-4 in sideboard.
then it would look like a god card. flaaaavvoorrr flaaavvv
