The original list is weak in removal, targeted and mass. I suggest adding more to make up for the lack of it in the precons, as having useful, varied answers makes any deck a lot stronger.
What would you recommend for removal? I want to try to keep it somewhat budget for now. Also, here are some cards I will definitely be removing next time I get more cards to add:
- Oloro, Ageless Ascetic (was in here because I didn't have anything else to take out)
- Ajani's Pridemate
- Well of Lost Dreams
- Nihil Spellbomb (possibly, doesn't do enough but I'd consider keeping)
- Phyrexian Gargantua (hopefully I'll have other, more artifact-ish ways to draw)
- Sun Droplet (Doesn't fit the theme)
- Azorius Herald
- Wall of Reverence ( Would rather be doing other things with 4 mana)
- Serra Avatar (doom blade, can't get over 1/1s, expensive)
- Sanguine Bond (not enough lifegain to warrant)
Possible Removals:
- Raven Familiar
- Serene Master
- Divinity of Pride
- Phyrexian Delver
- Lim-Dul's Vault (helps with "rearranging" but I would rather draw instead of reorganize.
- Spinal Embrace (fun but expensive)
- Death Grasp (mana intensive for something that could be replaced)
- Phyrexian Reclamation
Hey guys! I picked up the "Eternal Bargain" EDH deck today as well as a few neat artifacts for it. I swapped out some of the lifegain cards for other cards that I picked up:
Darksteel Ingot
Swiftfoot Boots
Burnished Hart
Gold Myr
Voltaic Key
Traveler's Amulet
Caltrops
Elixir of Immortality
Silver Myr
Fellwar Stone
Propaganda
Akroma's Memorial
Mycosynth Lattice
Cryptic Command
I'm super excited to play with my new additions and can't wait till my next "payday" (allowance) to pick up more cards! Could anyone recommend some stuff to pick up next? Of course, the cards I listed here are subject to change after I finish the other cards. Thanks for the feedback, everyone! This is gonna be fun!
Sydri I find to be better politically than Sharuum, as she's well known for comboing off via clone effects to feed ETB/LTB effects like Disciple of the Vault.
Besides, she can act like Karn, killing lands using Liquimetal Coating or Mycosynth Lattice. Caltrops with her can turn anyone's attack step into a single-sided wrath. Turning equipments into creatures will make them unattach, letting her act like Tower of the Magistrate too against voltron (as well as letting you snipe them off via kill spells or make them all die during a wrath). Your boardstate, as long as you have artifacts, will always be deadly since you can just cast Sydri and animate them to do your bidding. As another note, they are animated as blue creatures, which works with Grand Architect to power out even more artifacts. Also, she's only 3 mana, so when she does end up costing a lot, Sun Titan can bring her back out of the graveyard instead of recasting her out of the command zone, and Reveillark does the same since she only is a 2/2.
She is extremely versatile, she's got a powerful color combination, she's not as threatening as Sharuum to others, and she's got a lot of tricks up her sleeve.
Besides, it's fun to animate big artifacts like Darksteel Forge and smash them at people.
Do you have a list anywhere I can look at? This sounds like an interesting way to use Sydri but not crazy combo version. I really like your ideas.
Hello everyone! I posted a few days ago and I've been taking into consideration everything everyone has said. I liked the Zedruu route but wanted something that I could already get and not have to spend too much of an initial investment on. I decided that when I head to my LGS tomorrow I'm going to pick up the Esper "Eternal Bargain" EDH deck. This is because they are two things that I have never really done before with the commanders. I have never played a lifegain/life drain deck and I've never played with virtually any artifacts. However, I do want to branch out in my playing style and I feel that this deck could be a great start. However, I'm stuck between a decision of Oloro, Ageless Ascetic and Sydri, Galvanic Genius. I really like the idea of Oloro and his lifegain/defense strategy. The only thing that I'm worried about is that it is going to make me a pretty big target as lifegain is generally a threat in my group (aggro and stompy decks are the norm). However, Sydri offers me something I've never done before and has some very cool combos. My only worry is that it will be a little competitive in my playgroup. I probably have the largest budget of all my friends. I definitely want to include some combos, but don't want to be too mean with them. I'm thinking that this means not as many tutors as one would run in a normal deck. What do you guys (and girls) recommend I should do in regards to making it a "fun" combo deck? Sorry if this is super random and incoherent, I'm just trying to get some help because I want to be able to have fun without being super mean.
I replied to this earlier but I did want to say a few things-
1. I have been looking for a deck good for me and have been searching for a while until I came across this beauty. This is exactly the direction I want to go in with EDH.
2. I don't want to copy this deck and am worried that it might get old pretty quickly, so am wondering what I could do to keep it fun to people that play it often.
3. I'm trying to design a version of this deck based with Gisela just because she seems like the perfect card to say "Attack him, not me" and will kill everyone quicker. However, I am a bit disturbed by the lack of rattlesnakes and Rakdos charm this might cause. Any suggestions?
4. Forcefield is 94$.
5. Love the deck! Your videos are great as well.
How would you recommend using this deck if a common opponent (my brother, for example, I play with a lot) runs Thraximundar.goodstuff? Also, how could I deal with opponents that are heavy on protection spells (Lightning Greaves, Asceticism, etc.)
Ok, thanks for the help, everyone. What can I do to prevent people from sacrificing to sac effects? Like I previously stated, my brother is running Thraximundar and I don't want that to have to be a problem. Also, are there any other commanders I could check out? I like Zedruu but would like to keep my options open.
Wow.
I looked Zedruu up and she looks absolutely amazing. There are so many different ideas for what I could do running through my head. Do you know some good methods of protecting her so she doesn't get tucked or being able to find her if she does? That is perfect perfect perfect. Thank you so much!
Hello everyone! My name is Jake and I'm a bit new to the forums. I love making and looking at different commander decks but have trouble committing to and sticking with one. Every day it seems like I like a different commander more and more, and that's a problem for me. I'm looking for help on finding a commander or deck type that's right for the type of player I am, if it's at all possible. Maybe this thread can help other players looking for their commander as well.
My meta/type of deck I'm looking for
- My playgroup is casual to semi-competitive (most competitive deck in my meta is my brother's thraximundar goodstuff.dec)
- I myself am fairly competitive, but don't want to be mean or make the game unfun.
- My meta generally is against counter/"You can't play this" control decks.
- I want to be able to play single and multiplayer games, if possible.
- I want the deck to be able to start off with a low budget and work my way up to a more expensive version
- I want to be able to have fun, and have my opponents have fun
Type of commander I'm looking for
- I want him/her to be fairly cheap (5 mana or less)
- I want each game to play out differently and have interesting combinations
- I am usually a blue/white player, but would be happy to do something different (for a change!)
- I want to try to be a bit political if possible
I don't know if there isn't a general like what I am trying to go for, and thanks for all feedback I receive. I really hope that I can find a general I can stick with and grow with. Thanks!
Hey, I was on YouTube and I saw a deck video that copied yours. There is one card (a blue 3 mana bird) that I don't think you have. Video is called "Leroy's Jenara, Asura of War CMDR Deck". I don't know if you knew about this but I thought I'd let you know.
Hi everyone, this is my first post on these forums (Even though I'm a bit of a lurker, I just joined yesterday). I want to make a Red and Blue EDH deck, but am having trouble finding some decent win conditions and a commander to lead it all.
I do want, however, these basic themes in my deck:
- Replication or Copying of spells, creatures, and abilities
- Fun to play and to play against
- Something that is different each time
- I don't want to always win, and I'd like to shy away from the more obvious infinite combos (for example, Niv-Mizzet, the firemind + Curiosity)
- I want to be able to add some shiny burn spells in there
- But still be able to have my say in a bit of what gets cast and what doesn't.
Thanks for reading this and possibly giving advice, and...
Happy Holidays!
Edit: I think that I want to play Melek, Izzet paragon. I would like to know a few good burn/counter spells to use, and a few nice win condition combos.
It definitely needs some green in there. It feels green and blue-ish.
