Wrench Mind seems bad right now with affinity, Tron, Mishra's bauble, and chalice of the void all seeing a lot of play.

I would be more than happy to hit chalice of the void with wrench mind. Bauble is very unlikely to stay in their hand. Affinity and Tron aren't great but you can't have the perfect card for every matchup.

It would make sense to cut removal for nodes and I doubt I'd want more than 2 in the 75. The card is probably better suited in the sideboard but I'm going to start with a 2/2/2 split of fatal push, dismember and nodes in order to test it.

Was reading an article today and came across Porphyry Nodes. Seems like a great removal spell for us since it allows us to not only potentially remove multiple creatures but allows us to gain some tempo when the opponent holds creatures in hand in order to destroy the node. This allows for more time to make them discard. I'm gonna test 2 copies tonight but does anyone else have thoughts on whether it might be a decent card for us?

I was running 3 in mono black before I started playing B/W more often. Card is great for sure.

I run 2 disenchants and 1 ratchet bomb but that could easily be 2 ratchet bombs and 1 disenchant. Either way I'd recommend at least 1 ratchet bomb because it has been great for me.

Mtg goldfish currently only has 4 deckslists listed that have placed decently at various events and none of the 4 lists runs CB. This does not take into account the 4 mb CB list we have been discussing which finished an impressive 11-4 and should be included in the discussion. This means 4 of the 5 decks with good finishes recently run wrench mind and no CB. If we are basing this on results it's only fair to give the edge to wrench mind as it has done better both recently and historically. https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-8-rack-33293#online.

Going to do one more night of testing with CB but I'm leaning towards cutting it even with the extra value I get from MB lingering souls. The only time the card has felt amazing was against burn. It's also been fine against company overall (company is the deck I've seen the most of locally lately with tron being second) but I'd rather go back to adding funeral charm against company because it at least kills their dork before they can have a t2 3 drop. CB doesn't do that when we are on the draw and they only have 8 targets for the discard mode (although they're very high priority targets). CB has been a little better for me in practice than in theory but I still don't like it nearly as much as wrench.

I'm still pretty early into my testing of CB but it hasn't been too bad overall. I think I want 2 copies because I like the extra removal and the bad duress mode is fine in certain matchups as a followup to turn 1 targeted discard when you know their hand. It's also nice having something to do with extra lands when we don't have ravens crime. My question for people running 4 copies would be why 4 seems like the correct number to you. I definitely don't want to draw 2 copies in the same game in most cases because the 2nd copy you play feels much weaker than the first if you already discarded cards to use multiple modes.

Since our deck doesn't have much in the way of card advantage, every card matters and it will not always make sense to use more than one mode on CB. Despite it's flexibility, CB is terrible rate when you analyze the effects individually. We could very well end up paying 2 mana while on the draw for a worse duress or a sorcery speed disfigure. I don't even want to be spending 1 mana on those types of effects and have a very hard time justifying running 4 copies of a card that is both underpowered (against everything but burn) and does little to further our actual gameplan (keeping cards out of the opponent's hand). I would much rather run a 2/2 split of CB and wrench mind than 4 copies of either card.

I actually have a pretty solid winrate against burn and affinity. Lingering souls wrecks affinity hard and I bring in timely reinforcements for burn which wins the game by itself usually. I can see where charm would help against company and elves but I've never been a huge fan of the card against the field. This was actually the first time I've seen elves at my local store so it caught me off guard.

My most recent decklist just got posted. Feel good about almost everything but the lack of a sweeper was the one glaring mistake.

More often than not wrench mind will be a 2 for 1 but it will obviously miss from time to time. On the same note, brutality will occasionally be a 0 for 1, so they both have risks. I sided wrench mind out against tron both times I played it this weekend but I imagine I would have sided out brutality in those matchups as well. Also, Brutality seems worse against eldrazi to me than wrench mind (although it's much better against affinity). Wrench mind being able to hit lands when they are holding cards to stay out of rack range can't be overlooked either.

I am open minded to the idea of brutality being good but it's something I'd like to test myself because it's a major change for me. The extra utility and removal definitely have me intrigued since decks with early board presence tend to give us to most trouble. A problem I've always had with the deck is the fact that there are times where you draw nothing but discard spells so this would theoretically help this problem in a lot of scenarios.

The way I currently view it is that it will make some of my bad matchups better and some of my good matchups slightly worse. I'm sure I will have a different/stronger opinion of the card one way or the other in a few days after I test it more but I will definitely give it a fair shot and hope it works out.

Side note: I like it more in my B/W build than mono black so far because of the great interaction with lingering souls and it did already win me a game I would have lost if I'd drawn wrench mind instead (killed a lone delver preparing to swing for lethal)

I'm gonna go ahead and try to jam 50 games or so with brutality this week. I still believe wrench mind does a better job of furthering our gameplan (turning on racks)than brutality but I'm interested in finding out for myself what brutality brings to the table.

0 copies of funeral charm and tendrils in my 75. Tendrils would have been great though. I lost to elves and Abzan company with melira and friends. I pulled the 1 copy of tendrils I had and both bridges from sideboard right before I registered the deck in favor of more creatures and a second timely reinforcements. Both were relevant since I played tron twice and burn. I think I want a 1/1 tendrils/damnation split going forward

Made top 8 at the Roanoke IQ today with B/W. 4-2 after 6 rounds but both my losses and one of my wins went x-1 so I had great breakers. Lost in first round of top 8 to abzan company and am now pretty confident it's correct to take the play in that matchup. I might go back to mono black but lingering souls was pretty good overall.

    Went 3-1 at FNM tonight

R1: 1-2 against Ad Nauseum. Won a game by keeping him at 0 lands for several turns thanks to double smallpox. The 2 losses were close but sometimes they just draw into the combo. G3 I actually lost because he chose to draw in order to have the extra card and when I had him at 1 card he drew the other combo piece the next turn.

R2: 2-0 against Sram/Cheerios combo. This matchup is pretty easy and I won through 2 Srams both games.

R3: 2-1 against Esper control. Lost a close G1 due to the sheer amount of card draw the deck runs. Think Twice followed by esper charm is pretty hard to beat. Still had him at 4 though. Game 2 he took out all the removal and I got him with T2 pack rat. G3 my hand was really good and he wasn't seeing card draw.

R4: 2-1 against Burn. Had to Mull to 5 G1 and actually kept a 0 lander on the 5. Steamrolled pretty bad. G2 I was able to win with a timely wrench mind backed by double Rack. G3 was very interesting. I was down to 5 very early but topdecked some Timely Reinforcements and the game was a cakewalk from there. Might even go up 2 sideboard copies because it won the game by itself and I played burn twice at my last IQ.

Overall 3-1 felt pretty good. Could have easily been 4-0 or 2-2 based on a few topdecks but the deck perfomed as expected. I'll be taking it to a SCG IQ tomorrow but my local meta tends to have multiple people playing G/x Tron so I'm hoping to dodge it.
