i retired my zurgo deck. its like 90% foil with original foil lavaman and foil fetches. i just wanna leace it as is and admire a pure burn deck for what it was.
i have moved on to playing a totally different deck. mono blue kopala merfolk tribal. with no combo decks, in theory, this deck should wreck. put a fast clock on the opponent and end games fast
Thunderous Wrath is bad in 60 card. Ive tried it. The risk of drawing it in our opening 7 is too high and means a mulligan. Also when on the draw, your opponent passes and u draw TW with no lands in play.
These 2 scenarios makes TW unplayable. In duelcommander, TW is amazing. In duelcommander i play Pyrokenessis and Cave-In makes TW even better. Modern has no "pitch cards"
What do people think of Gut Shot? It wins me games and is good removal.
What do you guys think of Harsh Mentor? Does he always get to deal damage?
I play a more Burn oriented list http://www.mtgvault.com/zafersan/decks/zurgo-to-the-face-edh/. My friend plays Zurgo like you guys, 30 or so creatures and my list beats his. When we play, he is the aggro and I'm the control, almost always like this. The upside to my list is when I'm in top deck mode, my top decks are always good unless it's land.
Yes, those sweepers hit our own board but i only play like 9 creatures. The standard list plays like 25 creatures no? So using board wipes would still work nicely
Rolling Earthquake was mentioned, what about that X sorcery, its like earthquake but wont hit creatures with horsemanship. Isnt tht the best X spell for us?
What about using board wipes (the kinda that hit players as well) like Flamebreak, Slagstorm, Cave-In, Volcanic Fallout, Breath of Darigaaz, Fiery Confluence. Thats the good ones i can think of
They kill all creatures from toughness of 3, 2 and 1
Seems good with madness cards. Fiery Temper and Violent Erruption come to mind. 3 thoughness means is dies easy and it doesnt have haste. I wouldnt use him. But i use 9 creatures in my list
Chain of Plasma might be a good idea. I've been thinking about it myself. It's Searing Spear #3.
Grim Lavamancer is a house, you drop him last, when your opponent has used all their removal on your guys. I see you already have 2 fetch lands, you just need 2 more. It feeds lavamancer so well.
Teetering Peaks, I don't like lands that come into play tapped. If you really need that mana and your in top deck mode to kill your opponent with your last burn spell, Teetering Peaks will kill you.
Flame Slash and Roast don't hit the face, you'll be in awkward situations where you'll need a face spell and then you'll have these in hand and might even lose.
The issue with Anhk and Zozu is that they are great early on but when you need a top deck burn spell, they won't do well. Zozu at least attacks so he is good.
Never cut Magus of the Moon and Blood Moon, they will shut down too many decks. Yes, they are not good against mono coloured decks but I would feel like a weakling deck if I didn't run them.
Your burn spells are primo
I wanted to talk about a certain card to combat aggro decks. Ensnaring Bridge, it's used in Legacy and Modern Burn and it will shut down aggro decks. The issue I was thinking about though was that EDH decks run a lot of Artifact and Enchantment removal. I ran into problems when I was using Shrine of Burning Rage was that people were blowing it up.

i dont wanna play this format any more. im just gonna play modern
eidolon, sulfuric vortext, price of progress n fireblast r banned. how about i quit duel commander...all they do is ban card

Sudden Demise is a house, I like Pyrokinesis better but Sudden Demise is it's equal.
