I've noticed recent that all the recent Abzan lists that run the 12 creature package (2x Ooze & Tasigur, 4x Rhino & Goyf) have shifted from 24 to 25 lands. Does anyone know why? Can anyone break it down for me.
Hey, trying to get better with the deck. Anyone know of any good Twitch streams where devoted to Modern Junk Midrange, or at least a good Modern stream where a lot of Junk is being played?
Hey everybody, I'm brand new to 8Rack and have a question for you before I go play it at a shop for the first time.
I see that there are 4 Leyline of Sanctity in the sideboard.
If you didn't have access to any Leyline of Sanctity, but had the rest of the cards, how would you construct the sideboard?
In other words, which cards would you use to make up for not having any Leyline's? And if having not Sanctity's has a secondary effect that means a drastic SB change, what would the 15 card board consist of?
So this is my take on a non-budget Stompy splashing black. The idea is simple: access to Abrupt Decay. No paying 4 life for Dismember to just have it get countered and no sorcery speed Prey Upon.
I'm still on the Fence about the 2x Dungrove Elder and Mutagenic Growth though. We're essentially cutting 3 total creatures for Bow of Nylea and 2x Mutagenic Growth. Not sure that's the right move, but I figure with Dungrove having Hexproof, he'll be much more difficult to remove than Kalonian and can make the loss of 2 creatures doable. I might be wrong though, only testing will tell.
I think that the township is essential if you want to play mana dorks, just because then lategame they dont become quite as a useless topdeck if you can atleast pump them.
Your curve is huge! Have you thought about trying to streamline it a bit more so that you can curve out more often?
The thing is: you cannot know for sure, no matter how sure you feel about it, that there is no better (new) build to be made with dorks and thus stating things like "We don't need or want mana dorks" is rather careless. It is interesting to me to see people explore new ideas, even tho most are likely to result worse than the original. There is really nothing to lose as you can always revert to original / previous incremental build.
Unless you find a mana dork that lets me play Strangleroot Geist on Turn 1, mana dorks aren't happening in this deck.
How do I know for sure? I don't know with 100% certainty, but the 41 pages of this primer thread filled with discussion, experimentation and testing make me willing to bet my next 3 mortgage payments on mana dorks not working. Ultimately, it goes against the DNA of the deck.
Creatures, 4 removal spells, pumps - that's pretty much it. Keep it simple, don't get cute.
It's a non-budget move, but I've been experimenting with splashing black so I could replace the 2 Prey Upons and 2 Dismembers with 4 Abrupt Decay. A lot of times when i absolutely have to cast the Dismember, I end up paying 4 life and have it get countered anyway. Backbreaking.
Wondering what's the right way to go about it... Currently, I've been running 4 Verdant Catacombs w/ 4 Overgrown Tombs and 2 Woodland Cemetary. I think that might be too many Tombs.
What do you guys think of the move, and what's the ratio of fetch/shock/buddy lands?
FYI, I run Raking Canopy in the sideboard to deal with guys like Colonnade, Resto, etc.
First off, let me give props on the Primer. It's great. So is the deck. I just got into Modern and this deck has been awesome for me. Cheap, easy to play and matches up well against seemingly every deck.
I think the Mainboard list in the Primer works best. I've tried Bow main board and while it's good (especially against Delver and Affinity), it's a bit slow. I'd rather run another creature or a 3rd Aspect of Hydra.
That all said, I wanted to get some takes on Raking Canopy vs. Creeping Corrosion in the sideboard. Raking is great against Delver, Geist Angels, Colonnade and the Affinity Flyers, but Corrosion destroys Vials, equipment, etc. So what's the answer? One over the other, run a combination of both?
Also, thoughts on Eyes of the Wisent... I play in a very Snapcaster/counter heavy meta, so I was thinking of bringing it in over Torpor Orb.
I'm new to Modern, so any insights based on previous experiences would be appreciated.
I know this is a Budget list/thread, but just wanted to get some thoughts on adding 4 Misty Rainforests to the mana base - strictly for the purpose of thinning out the deck a bit and improving the top decks.
What are your thoughts on fetches? How many would you run if any?
thanks in advance...
I'm assuming Delver, BOB, Noble H...
Same for Surgical Extraction...
Borrowed some cards from a buddy and am playing 8 Rack tonight for the first time at my local shop. Pretty stoked. Should be interesting.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

4x Dryad Militant

2x Aspect of Hydra
2x Mutagenic Growth
ENCHANTMENTS
4x Rancor
1x Bow of Nylea
2x Creeping Corrosion
2x Obstinate Baloth
2x Pithing Needle

Thoughts?
So if you had access to 4 Liliana of the Veil, how many would you put in the deck and where would you put them?
I'm thinking you run 4 Lily'sand cut back the ramp to 4 Sylvan Caryatid. Thoughts?

Should I pull the trigger or wait around for a reprint?
Is that reprint even coming?
Also, I don't own any Goyfs, so I'd most likely build a discard, mono-black control, or b/w midrange modern deck with her.
Thoughts?
