Recently I have been doing some testing with cards that i either past over in earlier builds or were recent finds or releases. can confirm the new grenzo, havoc raiser is basically the nut. he essentially saves you from the crack back on stale board states.

recently I added Matter Reshaper for the value so i have been trying to lower the cmc of the deck to make for more aggressive and explosive starts. that said swift warkite has been an absolute beating. sometimes people kill guys before dethrone happens, or you just need it to die rather than be exiled. the warkite has let me recover from these situation much quicker. i has really loved the card so far. its recursion or acceleration. like a mini kaalia for us.

asylum visitor is a card i could see in a specific type of marchesa deck. it is good with cards likemindslicer or oona's blackguard. basically if you can reasonably and consistently keep cards out of their hands. mostly i see this as a not good option. too cute, hardly relevant.

yeah, evoke with this card is very very powerful one of the many reasons unspeakable symbol is so powerful in the deck. that said i have always found tuktuk scrapper to just be easier for artifact removal than ingot chewer. you want to avoid getting TOO cute with the deck or you end up mucking up the works.

At first I wasn't sure about this one since discarding is not something I like to do. On the other hand, a 3/3 flyer with no downside for 3cmc is always useful and the ability can be a backup plan. The River kelpie combo convinced me though, thats an awesome find Smile

There are also some upsides to the ability even if Marchesa is also in play; casting a Mulldrifter for its evoke cost, nets you 3 cards eot for 3 mana. Orrrrr having Sidisi, Undead Vizier exploit itself; discard 1, tutor 2! (that does work right?)

yes it does. theoretically, you can keep the sidisi tutoring at every end step. if you wanted to.

in hindsight, she is actually an infinite combo with river kelpie and a sacrifice outlet.

has sweet synergy with glen elendra archmage also

see in my opinion this card is sweet. alot of the time the cards in the deck either take care of themselves or are not worth protecting, that said. this new Olivia gives us a chance to not only instantly put the save on marchesa, the black rose when she returns, but on the few threats we do care about. also it does have a nice synergy with river kelpie or necropotence or other larger draw engines you might be running. she will not be a haymaker, but a 3 cmc flier with the ability to save other creatures post boardwipe is going to pretty handy. it will make people think twice about using removal if they think you can instantly make them recurrable again.

so fun new card we got which i have been toying around with. Deepfathom skulker alot of the time card draw can be slow going and bident of thassa was a card i always felt like we wanted. but in my build i was looking for it on a bodyso the more creatures the better. thoughts? alsomatter reshaper is an insane card. can comfirm. played a game last night with it and it got me no less than 4 lands and a few creatures and manarocks and only "wiffed" twice.

what about unity of purpose or press into service? some support for our strategy and some protection against crackback

so i have a captian sisay EDH deck and in my opinion the best way to go is actually LESS legends and tune it more towards specific goals. my deck, the one i spent most of my time on focuses on taking legends and removing threats to my board before they happen. in order to do this it means gradually lessening the effectiveness of the possible answers my oponents have to my board. as your prison closes around them, by the time the realize whats happening they will most likely have nothing. the bread and butter of you deck will be gaddock teeg. he should come out early every game and is the building block of where you want to build a board state. from there getting things like dosan, linvala, avecyn and sigarda remove the effectiveness of you opponents cards. then come the fun cards like stearling grove and privileged position. they work to give all you things shroud. at that point you have a board that only loses to maybe 2 cards in all of magic. that is how my deck plays and it uses cards like survival of the fittest, academy rector and sun titan to get there

Ok, i LOVE captain Sisay. like it is my favorite deck i have ever built. and i will always promote players to play this general because it is straight BUSTED!! I, like you went for the toolbox/comboless Sisay build so that being said there are several things i have learned while playing sisay that i will pass on as gems of playtesting knowledge.

first of all cut the following cards
-spikeweaver (this card is sub par at best and will often be a card you pitch to survival of the fittest for something better.)
-craterhoof (if you are going to play a card like this, play Kamahl both are equally unsatisfying in the exact same way except kamahl is tutorable)
-grand abolisher ( as a legendary alternative play Dosan the falling leaf, between him and linvala you have basically the same card. also tutorable)
-bane of progress (you run a ton of artifacts and enchantments in the deck and often this is going to be a card you just dont want. instead try adding hua tuo, honored physician for recursion or Karamatra for value.)
-avenger of zendikar. this card will never ever be as good as you want it to be in this deck. sure its great with norn or hoof but again there are better things your can be doing. i would suggest avacyn in this slot.
-life from the loam (you only have so much recursion. you are not as of yet playing loyal retainers or hua tuo so anything you mill is basically gone. i would replace this with Rune-tail kitsune ascendent. this card is amaging. tutorable and lets your guys swing freely into blockers.
-knight of the reliquary (also not very good here. the only relevent lands it gets and land destruction and maze of ith. i dont feel like this contributes much and if there is on thing Sisay needs it card advantage i would replace with Reki, history of kamigawa)
-crucible of worlds(yes, i know its amazing with azusa and knight and loam and land destruction, but lets do a quick count. which of these cards in your synergies are legendary, just azusa. ok what that would be fine if you could reliably get knight of the reliquary and crucible/ loam. but here is the thing. while light is possible with tutors fauna shaman and survival. you have literally no way of tutoring for loam and exactly one way of tutoring for crucible. it is a slow clunky combo and if you want to get lands back into play there are better, sisay tutorable, ways.

this brings me to my next advice.

gaddock teeg. this single card is a silver bullet for most edh decks. build you deck to run smoothly with this little kithken in play. because nobody else will. unfortunatly this means cutting cards like green suns zenith and chord of calling. you want teeg out as often as possible, because when he is there are exactly 2 board wipes that can be cast under him. cyclonic rift overload and toxic deluge. it keeps your board safe while you build a indestructible board presence. it does hut sometimes not having the two tutors but honestly green sun's doesnt get much relevant stuff in the late game. tooth an nail can stay if you like it but i have always fount it to be a win more card. if i cast it over a legend or something else, i am probably already winning. this holds true for gen wave also. it leads to unsatisfactory wins

some other legends to look at:

bow of nylea- this card lets you tuck any legends that die for retutoring with sisay. deathtouch is not bad either AND it kills Kaalia forever. it is also not bad if you are intent on keeping spike weaver but that synergy is cute at best
heliod, god of the sun- in a format where attacking is important vigilence is insane. it is also good with sterling grove, gaea's cradle and rune tail.
Nykthos shrine to nyx- this is gaeas cradle #2 you have a lot of mana symbols and i have found that in the late game it sometimes taps for more mana than cradle would. its always good expecially for generating white mana.
Loyal retainers recursion for legendary creatures AND combos well with survival of the fittest for early game fat legends.

other than that i think the deck is on the right track. like i said i love sisay and have been hoping to see people build her more. good luck and hope this helped. also my list is linked, it needs some updating after the sylvan ban but it is more or less the same

    Deck History

I have been a magic player since around scourge block and the dawn on mirrodin (pun intended) and since I first started, I have always had a love of legendary cards. I loved reading about the vast and complicated world in which this game takes place. Between then and time spiral I only played casually but collecting sweet legends and building storyline sets of character was my big goal. unfortunately I got out of magic for several years during college and had sold all of my cards except my legend collection. Then, like everyone who quits magic, I was pulled back in during the return to mirrdin. and low and behold I hear about his amazing new format called EDH! Legends as commander?!? cast them any time?!? you had me at legends. I immediately went online and looked up the Legends which had come out since my absence. Immediately i singled out a shortlist of decks I wanted to build. Now before you judge me I want to say that i only picked them because they looked fun, not because I wanted to pick the best generals. these were jhoira of the ghitu and Zur, the enchanter. i quickly realized that this was not what i wanted to be doing in this format and slid into more casual and fun generals. it seemed like building the decks was more fun than playing them and after playing with each one for a long time and then find a fault of a weakness that i just could not get past. so Zur, the enchater became sen triplets became Grand arbiter augustin IV became Vela the night clad and so on and so fourth becoming more than ten different edh decks. and each time i found myself wanting answers to board states and big flash cards. i would constantly get board with decks and then scrap them to build others. and then i looked back in mt Weatherlight Legends set and decided to build a theme EDH deck around the Storyline of the Legacy and the Skyship weatherlight. the deck was five color and contained only cards from that story arch and spells which depicted it in its artwork. it was then that i realized how busted Captian sisay really was. so i scrapped that deck and decided to go all out on this deck. this would be the deck to answer all the situations. i deck which could play any style and win int many ways. and so Sisay was born.

    Why play Sisay?

    Play Sisay if you...
    • Like to have answers
    • Like to be able to switch between aggro and control at any point
    • like big flashy creatures
    • don't mind shuffling your deck a lot
    • like to be think many turns ahead to what your board state will look like
    • like recourse denial and creating hard to deal with board states
    • you want every card in your deck to be a "threat"

    Don't play Sisay if you...
    • hate hard to pilot decks
    • don't like tutoring
    • want to kill with general damage
    • like infinite combos (not in this build anyhow)
    • like counter spells
    • don't like shifting between control and aggro

    Basic stratagy and synergies

In this Sisay deck your main goal is going to be playing threat after Threat after Threat as a distraction while you slowly Hinder other players progression in the game. there are certain cards like Gaea's Cradle and Gaddock Teeg which you will find yourself tutoring for almost every game. Cradle Generated Absurd amounts of mana and this deck is built to run with Teeg on the field (only a few spells don't get in under Teeg in the deck) and he will always hurt your opponents more. while the deck can typically runs as a control deck or as an aggro deck the win conditions usually end up with a combination of threats which, when on board together, make a board state only two cards in the format really can beat which i will talk about later. not there are two basic plans of attack when playing Multiplayer: the aggro plan and the Control plan.

the deck has alot of great synergy with itself. many cards tutor for non-legendary creatures and cards like Wild pair and Survival of the fittest have excellent chains build into the deck that can change games in a swift minute. BOW of Nylea is amazing in the deck. if tucks GY legends and lets me search them up again. it also saves key cards from GY hate.

some of the synergies in the deck can also be very punishing like for example an opening hand with survival of the fittest could easily result in the turn 4 or 5 legend of your choice.
    turn one: land
    turn two land survival
turn 3: land pitch creature to susvival get legend fatty
turn four: land pitch fatty to get loyal retainers and cast loyal retainers. reanimate legend.

the deck is full of cute and interesting synergy waiting to be discovered and from time to time I will find new ones.

    Stratagy: The aggro plan

With this deck It is very easy to become the aggro player at the table. sisay had access to a lot of powerful effects for the aggro player. in this strategy you cast Sisay as fast as possible. Depending on your cards in hand you will want to be tutoring for Rune-tail, Kitsune ascendent or Gaddock Teeg First. the reason here is that 99% of board wipe effects cannot be cast with Teeg on the field. and against other aggro decks, having a flipped Rune-tail's essence can be very punishing. now from this point you want to be tutoring valuable creatures like linvala, keeper of silence or Rofellos, Llanowar emissary and mana ramping as hard as possible. this will then let you pull out cards like Kamahl, fist of krosa and Elesh Norn, Grand centobite the more ramp you have the easier this plan will be.

    The control plan

in this game you want to be as under the radar As possible. you're setting up a row of dominoes in this game plan so that when you finally have it all set up you can go from 0 to win in nothing flat. this strategy i find work the best because people don't seem to be afraid of this game plan as much as the aggro. so the two key cards in this plan are Sterling grove and Privileged position. because at that point everything you have is hexproof. the best part about this strategy is there are several tutors that will get you sterling grove and sterling grove will get you PP. using Cards like Dosan, the falling Leaf to hurt blue players and cards like Hokori, Dust drinker to slow down opponents. once you get these two out on the field tutor up avacyn, angel of hope and let them fun begin. basically no one will be able to stop you.

    What to Watch Out For.
the biggest problems i have faced with this deck revolves around a single card.
    Cyclonic Rift Overloaded

this one card gets in under Gaddock teeg and can destroy an otherwise untouchable board state. and with the new release of the Commander 2013 product we have another card to watch out for, although I am not sure how played it will be.

other than that there is a lot that Sisay just doesn't care about. Lavinia of the Tenth is one of the few EDH generals we have a hard time working around. A person in my local playgroup built a Blink deck with her just to beat me. the Detain ability is very relevent and other than oblation there are few permanent answers to it.

    Deck archetypes and tutorable counters.
Counter magic- Dosan, the Falling Leaf
    mono red-Rune-tail, kitsune ascendent
Tribal- Linvala, Keeper of silence or Elesh norn, Grand centobite
    Stax- Sigarda Host of Herons
    control: Gaddock Teeg
Artifact:Kataki, War's Wage (in the sideboard)

the deck is very powerful, capable of exploding out of the gate and winning very quickly. its is highly adaptable and can switch strategies in a turn depending on the state of the game. but all in all it is a very tough deck to play correctly. its very easy to become a target in a multiplayer game but if piloted correctly the deck is very very hard to beat.

Let me know any feedback you guys have and what you think of the deck. i am open to suggestions and criticisms

i am a fan of Spitting image + Life from the Loam + any utility land.

i meant hey key is to make intuition not even really a choice. like unburial rites + fattie + fattie

when you have three cards that all in some way give the other two its very useful. try to find things like that.
