Feels to me like a card to create a hybrid aggro/burn deck in modern.

I just don't think there's enough good red cards in standard to want to play red just for Chandra. Whole set not spoiled yet so we will see but burn spells in standard are very thin and honestly pretty bad as most of them avoid being able to target players.

    The biggest drawback is RR.

Way bigger than people are thinking.

Heavy red midrange deck? I'll believe it only when I see it.

Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker started almost as high as Chandra is looking to start. The problem with him was the same, red and midrange cards simply don't work well. The Jeskai decks that wanted to run Sarkhan eventually cut him entirely to get lower to the ground for Goblin Rabblemaster and Mantis Rider.

Red just isn't a strong standalone color and it's very hard to play 3 colors in standard. Anybody that has actually played bant company knows the pain of color screw without fetchlands. I find it funny that the newer versions of the deck run Knight of the White Orchid at the cost of needing WW early as a mana fixer. If only Chandra fixed mana and didn't just give you more R.

So the question here isn't "Is this a good card?" the question is "Do you believe red is going to be awesome all of a sudden?" You can't play RR on turn 4 when splashing, you need an actual red deck.

Modern is a different matter. She might slot nicely into Jund as a 1-2 of. Seems like she is inline with what that deck wants to do. Generate card advantage, remove creatures, grind out the longer game. Like Nahiri she dodges Abrupt Decay so is tricky to remove when ticking up out of bolt range. Unlike Nahiri she doesn't produce a massive swing on the spot with her ultimate.

I don't see her setting the multiverse on fire.

I think you can pay energy as an additional cost for more pump.

I would rather they print the power creep as interesting cards. This is so boring and I will hate it if this thing is $50+ out of the price of a good standard deck.

Hard to argue this card is anything but amazing. The kind of creature that control decks play on curve that makes you know you're probably going to lose.

Even if it does turn on removal which control decks want to avoid they have to tap their mana for that removal instead of a threat then you draw a card.

I think I want this card to rotate already Frown

    Interesting flavor, limited bomb.

Ultimately this card is bad in constructed. It's another one of Wizards attempts at a creatures matter mechanic with the payoff not being spectacular.

Don't get me wrong this has to be mythic for limited. This breaks board stalls right open in the mid to late game. Suddenly your early game fodder turns into a giant flying monster allowing you to start punching through in the air? Yes people are gonna have this in their pool and wreck you with it at prerelease or you could get lucky and be the one smashing face with it.

The limited environment is going to be soaked with vehicles. We're already seeing the synergy with Speedway Fanatic and Start Your Engines. This is just the top of the food chain and something you can first pick every time for a great vehicle deck in draft.

You need to build a deck with too many planeswalkers to always hit 2 or else the value is horrible.

This isn't even EDH playable so don't shovel it off on them.

I just don't see a deck with 20 planeswalkers in standard, that's insanely janky. Bulk mythic, nothing to see here.

The flavor text on the Oath beats Chandra Grin

    Liliana you so bad.

At least we got a 3 mana Lili even if it isn't that powerful. She'll be useful, she survives after bring back your best creature from the graveyard and later on in the game because her cost is low you should still have mana to then cast that creature.

Standard 4 drop Baneslayer Angel lol

I can feel I'm going to lose many games to that.

^ fearmongering about limited supplies have begun already I see.

I tell you if the price is not right I will not be buying a single bit of this set. I will not buy at a high price because somebody tells me I'm special to even be getting the chance to hand over my money.

Good point. They could reprint it simply so that the card is no longer linked to Harold McNeil in any way, shape or form (which is definitely something WotC would like to do). Smile

Sylvan Library finally breaks free on that thought. Commander's Arsenal art in non-foil Smile

    Non-Angel clause buddy Wink

I think the price also has to do with being a flip card. It is my theory the same thing happened with JVP. Players see that flip cards are much harder to reprint and Wizards/MaRo has even confirmed this. They need to do a special print process which costs extra.

I'm not sure Avacyn is exactly 4 of playable in standard and stretching across all formats but it is early days and it's obviously an instant casual hit. I'd expect $40-$50USD to be about the mark until the Pro Tour and from there it all depends on how many copies are in the top 8 as to what happens next. Most people that have her are probably holding or trying to cash in at the highest dollar value.

I want to know for sure if flip mythics are more or less rare than normal mythics. Seems to be plenty of specualtion about the exact numbers but nothing definitive. Would be happy to be directed to any information regarding this.
