Right now on MTGO I'm playing this. It's still really budget, and most of it is from the "Exiler" Precon they released. Is this something that can do a little damage in a tournament, or is it doomed to fail?
Now, I know it's missing the basic land base that makes D&T so good, but honestly, I can't afford a playset of paper Wastelandand digital ones. Just can't do it. Same thing with the ports. Would it be a good idea to play Ghost Quarter in place? Or (I know this is bad, but I'm budget here)Dust Bowl? What about other equipment ideas? I'd like to play Batterskull, but again, can't afford it. Any suggestions? I've seen people play with Kor Duelist and Kor Outfitter. What about those? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys!
Just played a Dark Depths combo deck. I don't think it was Lands, but it was based around the Dark Depths cheating-into-play combos. I did really well! I won game one pretty quick, he folded after a couple turns. I Flickerwisped his Marit Lage token twice, and exiled it with Mangara once. Game two I lost, but I put up a hell of a fight. StP on Marit Lage set me back a couple 10 turns. Game three was very quick. I got Sword of Fire and Ice equipped to a Mirran Crusader turn 5 and had him down to 6 turn 6. He had to double Massacre to save himself, and then I dropped a Thalia and a Mangara, and he folded. All in all, I'm pleased.
This deck got banned at my friends kitchen table. I love it. It's very mean, very black (IMO), and very fun.
The idea of the deck is to punish everyone for drawing cards, and make them draw as many as possible. It doesn't do too well in multiplayer, even though that's what it should be best at. I make myself a huge target way too fast. Anyway, here it is:

I want to believe this is Kiora but taking this into account and someone also mentioning in a different thread that there was supposed to be a merfolk powerful enough to potentially effect modern/legacy(or something to that affect) I wouldn't also be surprised to see this being a legendary creature.
Would be cool to see Kiora as mono U but I have a feeling it'll be UG if it happens which would make my sygg river guide deck sad.
Wouldn't the merfolk you are referring to be True Name Nemesis? Or did they specifically say that it was from Theros?
Notion thief needs to be in there. Wheel+notion thief=everyone discards their hands, you draw a million cards.
The problem with notion thief is that if they would draw, they don't. You do. God forbid I have spiteful visions on the field. That's a quick death for me. The main problem I have right now is that I have too many sorceries, and can't stack discard-and-draw spells. I think if I had Teferi, or quicken, or anything else that would let me cast sorceries at instant speed (snapcaster mage), this would be much faster and smoother. I often find myself holding on to a murderous hand, but I can only play one or two because they are all sorceries. In a 1-1 game, I can win pretty easily, but if it's multiplayer (which this deck is obviously meant for), I paint a big fat target on my head pretty early in the game, and I die just before I kill everyone. It's the damn sorceries.
Lack of wasteland hurts as you're playing a total of 2 sinkhole next to Smallpox. Half-assed land destruction works about as well as half-assed aggro. If you design the deck to *sorta* kill lands, then you'll need lucky draws to do it.
Your main issue in this deck is it lacks identity. You run Lily and a boatload of discard, but no rack/affliction. You run some land destruction, but not enough to choke the opponent out of the game. The cheapest way to remedy this is:
-adding Pox's in place of 3 Raven's Crime (+3 kill spells, +3 LD spells, same amount of discard)
-swapping Spinning Darkness for more Liliana of the veil
-swap a couple somethings for some Tombstalkers (Goyf, helps block and kills zoo)
-swap 1-2 swamps for Bojuka Bog (goyf, kotr, dredge, lands)
That said, you'd still do better in the primer. It's a pox deck; discussing it with pox folks helps
More pox makes sense and Ill have my playset of lilianas soon.
Since pox is slow as it is, i would think bojuka bog would be a bad idea. I see what youre saying though.
What if instead of bloodghast, i ran 2 tombstalkers and 2 nether spirits? I could take out... the sinkholes until i get the rest. Then i would have a sizeable attack force plus decent amount of LD and discard.
I could use some help with matchups, though. My friend plays Zoo and Dredge, and I know Dredge isn't a good matchup, but I can't win against Zoo to save my life. I don't know if it's because 12 one-drops is fast enough to race against LD and discard, or if I'm playing the deck wrong. Anyone have any ideas, or card suggestions for me?
Maybe if you use those non-magic card rules/advertising inserts that come in booster packs it could be okay? I would guess that using actual magic cards would not fly.
You could always "double sleeve" where you first put the cards in perfect-fit sleeves that are exactly card size and then into a normal sleeve. This will add some of the sturdy feel you are looking for without getting grey with the rules.
Makes sense. I do double sleeve, but i just built my first legacy deck and i'm a little paranoid about bending or messing the cards up. Just a little precautionary measure i wasnt sure about. I would definitely say it wouldn't be allowed at pro REL or maybe even higher level competitive REL, but I dont think it would be a problem at fnm or something. I want to be as careful with my cards as possible, and i want to play in tournaments, which i've pnly done once. Lol. So i wanted to be on the safe side. The rules insert or advertisements cards makes sense though. Thanks guys!
EDIT: Tried it on a proxy deck I built for my wife. It was a dumb idea. Forget I asked. ha.
Hey guys. I really get the feeling this is a stupid question, but I'm very curious about it. What is the legality of sleeving your deck with a basic land behind the card? Like, putting a basic land on the inside of the sleeve, behind the card. If it is legal, I would assume it have to have the back of the card to the back of the sleeve, and probably all the same type, to avoid marking the card through the sleeves. It would make decks so much sturdier, and foils won't warp as easy.
Ok, here's my deck. Theres a legacy tournament coming up, I'm new to legacy, this will be my first deck, so I could use some advice.
I picked Pox because my other two decks that I favor more than the others are my Grixis control EDH decks. Nekusar gives you what you want, but he takes his payment in blood. Making people draw cards (bring spells to mind for casting) and punishing them for it gets me all tingly inside. Flavor wise, I love it. That's basically the reason I picked Pox other than the fact that it's cheapish. Denial and Torture seem to be the underlying flavor to Pox, other than the obvious disease inspiration.
Like I said, I'm new to legacy, and I don't have much money to build a perfect pox deck, so I have below what I could pay for. The sinkholes and wastelands are too expensive for me right now, so if there are other options available that I am missing, let me know. I need two slots filled, that I wanted to put sinkhole in, so any other ideas?
I'm building a budget Pox deck right now for a tournament this Saturday. I'm going to be running 2 bloodghasts along with the deck staples other than the more expensive cards like sinkhole, wasteland, and more lillianas (i have 2 to play with). What are good replacements for the sinkholes and wastelands? I need to fill two spots before i feel comfortable with it. And what are tge chances that a budget pox deck doing decent at a legacy tournament?
This is one of my Grixis decks.

Draw till you drop, basically. The majority of the cards make everyone draw more, removes the discard phase, and hurts people when they do it. It's great.

I traded my binder of foils and rares (350$ worth) to my friend for a Liliana of the Veil and a WHOLE bunch more. I also ordered 2 more Liliana of the Veil, Crucible of Worlds, and 4 Surgical Extraction. Basically the only cards I need to get this where I want it are two more Sinkholes and 4 Wastelands. I'm on the fence about Nether Spirit, but Bloodghast is fine for right now.
Thanks guys!
