PE ban is an incredibly personal and biased decision. Only casuals want this card banned. There's a stronger case for PE not to be banned than for it to be banned. Not only does PE only fit into decks that run large amounts of rocks or dorks, it also requires set up and does nothing by itself. The card doesn't even untap lands, and there are multiple ways to deal with it before it goes off. This is a casual salt ban for a card which wasn't a problem in cedh. Now casuals will just find somehitng new to complain about and flashhulk has become more oppressive for no reason in cedh.
I haven't played with it much yet. I've managed to get it off once against an Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver ult so far. I can definitely see it being useful in the future because one of my friends plays a Jhoira deck which had plenty of board wipes that also hit lands.
Hi, I run a similar list to yours but with worse ramp (I use signets) and without expensive cards like Survival of the fittest. I've had some good games with it but I find half my games I just do nothing for most of the game. Sometimes I just get lots of land and nothing to do with it. Which cards do you find give you the consistency for the deck to do well most of the time? Have you considered putting in Growing Rites of Itlimoc? I tried it today but had it whiff because there's quite a lot of non creature spells in the deck. I might consider putting in Cloudblazer for more draw. The only times I've had explosive starts with this deck is when I've had Rhystic Study in my starting hand.
This deck looks fun to play and splashing black allows for some very nice cards to be played. I'm currently running a GW Hatebears list and can't decide whether to switch over to Abzan. Losing Thalia is pretty big against some matchups. Aven Mindcensor is also great when flashed in at the right time. Would you guys consider running scooze?
Does anyone run Eiganjo Castle in their lists? I'm not sure if it stops enough things to warrant a land slot. Especially when the only legendary creatures in most decks are Thalia and Gaddock Teeg. Is there any good replacement for Lingering Souls in the GW deck?
Do you have any ideas on how to tune the deck to fit a more general meta? Unfortunately I chose to build DnT as my first deck and then went into GW DnT so I really only have a budget for hatebears atm which seems more stronger and viable than DnT. I might have to pass on the Wilt-Leaf Lieges anyway since they're still going up. $30 now, the price rise for it is crazy.
Holy crap why the hell did wilt-lief liege spike so much!?!? Should I trade into them now or pray for a reprint in Modern Masters 2?
Liege has been high for awhile, it's a casual favorite. The spike is due to Jacob Wilsons deck though. I would get rid of them now, his deck is pretty heavily focused on the Junk matchup. Many of his deck choices (like Liege) get bad when the opponent isn't packing 8 discard spells+Liliana.
I wish I had some... I actually want to trade into them for use in my hatebears deck. I think the cards in the deck are still good and have good synergy even if the opponent isnt playing 8 discard spells + lili
Hi here !
I play modern since a long time now, but i don't know what to play right now, in which deck invest time.
I played a lot Jund, gifts and a faeries, but i feel a little bit bored about jund and the two others decks are pretty bad in the current meta.
Here are my preferences:
Favorite Playstyle (Aggro, Midrange, Control, Combo): No real favorite playstyle, i just prefer something with tricks, i like how faerie plays, eternal command too ! I like to play tempo thresh but bug delver too (in legacy).
How Competitive (For Fun, Local Tournament, MTGO, PTQ/GP): PPTQ / GP / LOCAL TOURNAMENTS
Favorite Cards/Colors: Brainstorm, Gifts ungiven, aether vial, dark confidant, deflecting palm, bounce effects
What i hate : HEXPROOF (!!!!), Sphynx's revelation, Thragtusk / Siege Rhino
Budget: +/- 400
Staples Owned: playsets : tarmo, dark confidant, liliana, thoughtseize, snapcaster, bitterblossom fetchs except sclading tarn, ravlands, 2* cryptic command, 3* vendilion clique and the commons/uncommons staples like remand, path to exile, lightning bolt, spell snare
As you can see i have some good staples, the real deal is finding what can feet me actually. If you have any ideas , you're welcome
Thanks !
Death and Taxes and it's variations of different colours uses Aether Vial and has some neat tricks and blink effects with Ather Vial, Flickerwisp, and Restoration Angel. Unfortunately it's not a top tier deck and is meta dependant so you probably shouldn't take it to a large event such as a PTQ
Well heck...Just got back into paper magic a couple of months ago, and blew a large chunk of money on a B/G pod deck.
My stomach just completely dropped...I'm a bit slow and just found out about the pod ban today.
/sad
So now I feel a bit lost. I've completely depleted my savings on my pod deck (and put quite a bit into a commander deck as well), and can't afford to build an entirely new deck. Grrr
I live in a small town, and the biggest events I ever really aspire to going to is FNM's and other LGS ran events. There are a few good players around here though who do run some nice decks...U/R Delver, B/W/G POD, B/W Tokens...heck, there's even a guy who has all the cards to play a B/G rock deck (4x goyfs, darks, and veils)...but he doesn't play much.
B/G rock is my dream deck. I LOVE grindy midrange decks...it's what I loved about my version of pod...it was just a heck of a lot of fun to grind with.
What do I do guys? Sell off the rest of my pod cards? I'm afraid I'll take a pretty heavy loss though, and I really don't want to have to sell off my cards if I can at all help it (and I refuse to sell off any of my lands. I sold a bunch of fetches years ago when I got out of paper magic and have regretted it ever since. Not going to make that mistake again).
Favorite Playstyle (Aggro, Midrange, Control, Combo): Midrange for sure! I love grindy games. How Competitive (For Fun, Local Tournament, MTGO, PTQ/GP): Local Tournaments...but I LOVE strong competative decks. I love knowing my deck's got the cards to handle well as long as I'm playing well. Favorite Cards/Colors: Typically I've always gravitated towards B/U decks. Counterspell is one of my all time favorite cards. But then I put together my current B/G pod deck and have completely fallen in love with this color combination. I'd love to stick with B/G for now if I can. Budget: Depleted. Not sure what to do at this point to be honest. I blew everything I had on my pod deck. Staples Owned:...See below...
haha I wish I could go and blow the $1,000 I'd need to get a play set of goyfs and lilianas. But yeah...not happening.
Any ideas for me guys? Feel a quite upset to be honest! I LOVED my pod deck! I was so stinking proud of the damned thing! lol I'll leave my list here...so you know what cards I'm working with.
I might try to build just a straight B/G midrange deck (sans goyfs and what not). Add in more oozes and finks and thruns. Maybe a bit more destruction.
I don't know...I'm just frustrated! lol
Here's what I was working with. Would LOVE some suggestions!
I agree with what spidernova said. Hatebears is also a creature based deck like pod, but if you can spend a little more you can check out UWR midrange, Geist is super fun to use.
To be honest, your deck is really the only competitive GW deck that there is. If you're willing to switch colors, you've got a few options.
Twin is pretty good, but plays completely differently from your playstyle. It's one of the decks that's a bit harder to hate out than others because you have the combo and tempo plan.
Tron is sort of a meta deck in the sense that it does really bad against combo and really good against anything with creatures. RG Tron is still a blast and can be had for $300ish.
You could also build straight DnT from your list, though I hear it's not really as good as the GW version.
Lastly, you could probably put together Scapeshift fairly easily.
I've played DnT before but it got boring so I switched to GW, I would like to put together a Scapeshift deck but I don't think I want to trade away my deck just yet anymore. Thanks for the suggestions though.
Have you tried GW Hatebears? I can imagine that you might have, since you own Voices and Smiters, but if you haven't, try it out. I went from GW D&T to Hatebears and I loved it, it feels more meta resilient and can go grindier. The two decks play out a lot more differently than people think, especially since they share so many cards. Also, you have almost all the cards, so it would be a pretty effortless conversion. Ask me for a list if you're interested.
A list would be great thanks, I've never tried hatebears before. I bought into a set of voices thinking they would go up in price for when I ever wanted to switch and Smiters are great against control decks and Lilianas. I'm not really sure which deck is stronger and why. Do you use Wilt-leaf liege? Seems fun to play and have a lot of big creatures out.
Hi guys. I'm a GW Death and Taxes player looking to trade into a less meta dependant top tier deck that will stay fun perform well in the long run.
Favorite Playstyle: Don't really mind. Haven't tried too much combo except for storm, but I feel bad for playing solitaire. Played GW DnT and played with my friends UWR control and Jund decks before. Haven't had experience with any other decks.
How Competitive: I don't play that much but I want something able to perform well, tier 1 or close to tier 1.
Favorite Cards/Colors: Green and White from playing the deck I currently own. Lightning bolt seems like a cool card.
Budget: Looking to trade my deck http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/gw-death-and-taxesheatebears/ for the cards I need, so I'd say about $500 or so. Anything with goyf is out of the question
Staples Owned: All the cards in the link above, 4x voice of resurgence, 4x bolt, 1x stomping ground, some copies of tectonic edge, 1x Engineered explosives, 1x golgari grave troll, 3x loxodon smiter, 3x young pyromancer, some other really cheap stuff.

I hope I can buy into those in the future, do you think they'll every drop to about $15 again?

Might buy into it sometime since I already own half the manabase. Bogles seems strong enough to be a tier 1 deck what makes it tier 2?
