Apr 23, 2019I could never support conceding only at sorcery speed as a rule, because I auto-concede to resolving cards like Thieves' Auction. Sure, I could just wait and concede on my turn, but that prevents the issue of me not wanting my cards mixed up with other players cards like that, due to some previous bad experiences (losing some very expensive cards to PuG players). As long as relevant triggers would otherwise go off (example, attacking someone with effects that give card draw or life gain on damage), concede whenever. It's one less person to worry about for the win.Posted in: Commander (EDH)

To be honest, I'm not 100% sure if the Harpooner is good enough. I mostly molded this off of the competitive lists with some minor edits on the stax elements. It ultimately probably isn't, but it's a really cool card I don't think sees much play, so I'd at least like to give it a shot. That said, I will probably swap it with, maybe something like Elvish Visionary if it doesn't actually do much. However, it is a tutorable way to kill a few very annoying generals in my meta even without getting pumped, which isn't super easy to come by in green.Quote from Hazzenko »Kraul Harpooner is good enough? I'm not a fan of Sakura-Tribe Scout. And how Utopia Sprawl and Wild Growth are performing for you?
Elvish Visionary, Wall of Blossoms and Carven Caryatid are good to curve, card advantage, and can be blockers if needed. Destructor Dragon and Whiptongue Hydra for removal. Seeker of Skybreak can generate good value or act as a political tool.

Probably my biggest thing about pod is my inability to get the cards back once I've sacrificed them. That said, I might be down to test it out once I get a feel for the deck. Tutor decks are a lot more difficult for me to pre-emptively intuit changes to just due to how familiar I need to be with the lines of play before I can see where to improve. I'm hoping to start test driving this tomorrow though, so I may be a little less useless at responding to feedback.Quote from WizardMN »Regarding Pod: I have put it into, and taken it out of, a number of decks in the past as it never did quite as much as I wanted. Granted only one was really built for it but that was one of the bigger issues for me: it required a bit more reworking of the curve to make sure each CMC had a relevant hit and it affected the overall deck.
I just figured a Yisan deck, which is already built with the curve in mind, would be a good place for it. But, as with a lot of things in EDH, personal preference is the driving factor so I can definitely respect the decision to omit it from this build and instead focus more on just using Yisan multiple times.

Five mana is tough for green creatures, because they keep putting everything at 6 CMC >.< I will definitely look in to Stomphowler, though!
I thought about them, and I might come back to them depending on how long this deck ends up living from game to game. Mostly they're a little slow, but to start I wanted to stick to ways to activate Yisan that he himself could tutor up (like Quirion Ranger or Wirewood Symbiote).
I like Guile more than Top. Sensei's top honestly just feels like a chore where as Mirri's Guile is just a less intrusive way to filter before my draw step. It's mostly personal preference, I'm just a very slow player with Top.I see you have Mirri's Guile but I am not sure why. It is just for card selection? Why not run Sensei's Divining Top instead? Arguably, they both do the same thing assuming you don't ever plan on using the Top more than once in a turn cycle and Guile doesn't cost mana, but I think Top being able to draw a card and its re-usability are better. Not saying Guile is bad or anything, just curious on why to use it over Top.
I'm honestly not a huge fan of Birthing Pod in general, which I know is blasphemy in EDH. But I prefer to use it when I have ways to get around the sacrifice hurting as much. I think Yisan covers me enough in the tutor area that not running it won't hurt too bad.I was trying to find cards that would let you re-use Yisan's ability to get a specific CMC by removing counters but there are few. Power Conduit is one and Quarry Hauler is another. I am not sure if they are good enough, though the Hauler does let you skip over numbers or get back to a previous number if you need to.
And, lastly, since you already have your curve set up for it, what about Birthing Pod?
Apr 9, 2019My list for Yisan, the Wanderer Bard. I've been looking to build Yisan since he was spoiled several years ago, but couldn't find the right timing on it due to always having a mono green deck already assembled.Posted in: Multiplayer Commander Decklists
This deck does take a lot of inspiration from the CEDH version of the list that is widely popular, but is ultimately not a CEDH deck, and I have phased out the parts that I don't think apply to my own list for cards that I simply enjoy running.

1 Path to Exile
3 Harvest Season
3 Mentor of the Meek
3 Reclamation Sage
3 Wood Elves
6 Kamahl, Fist of Krosa
3 Eldritch Evolution
3 Knight of Autumn
3 Kodama's Reach
3 Ranging Raptors
3 Runic Armasaur
4 Ripjaw Raptor
I know it's been quite a while since my last update, but fortunately that means I also come baring a fairly large update this time around!
First, lets talk about direct swaps. Adding Knight of Autumn as a replacement for Reclamation Sage is an easy choice, as it's largely just a straight upgrade as long as you have the mana base to consistently pull it off. Ranging Raptors comes in as a replacement for Wood Elves. While you do lose the ability to grab a non-basic forest, the amount of mana it can pump out is well worth the trade. However, because it is trading a consistent ramp spell for a more inconstant ramp spell, I've made the choice to also return to Kodama's Reach from having been replaced by Harvest Season, as I want to have a consistent source of mana in that CMC range as well. Mentor of the Meek has been swapped for Runic Armasaur. While this choice will definitely not be for everyone's deck, I have a very high number of decks in my meta that are predominantly built around the activated abilities of creatures, so Armasaur is one of the strongest sources of card draw I have access to. If it isn't something you can pull off however, I would recommend looking elsewhere for card draw.
Now for my more indirect swaps. Path to Exile is being cut because I feel that I have a fairly decent amount of single target removal as is, and that I no longer have as dire of a need for packing it in. My deck is more capable of holding it's own as a threat than it once was. I've also made the choice to cut Kamahl, Fist of Krosa. Despite how cute he can be with Marath, he's very green intensive and expensive, and I feel his slot would be better used for more card advantage.
Ripjaw Raptor has been a real MVP in testing. It is a massive threat, and even without Marath in play it can still be a formidable attacker or blocker. I know I've always been vocally opposed to Birthing Pod in my list due to the deck requirements it demands, but I feel that Eldritch Evolution is a good compromise. It gives me that extra tutor without being as demanding to stick perfectly on curve with tutor options.
I also would like to say, I know I've been a little bit spotty in the past while due to some health issues on my end, but I'd like to thank those of you who do follow my thread for all of the support over the years. I absolutely adore seeing our Jitte Moose gain such a solid following and now that I'm in a better spot, I will be much more on top of responses and updates.
Apr 8, 2019I must have messed up my subscription to this thread, but I'm so sorry for missing these comments earlier!Posted in: Multiplayer Commander Decklists
A quick update:
Thran Temporal Gateway
Prime Speaker Vannifar
I'm not 100% sure Vannifar will stick around, but Gateway was a weaker slot and I wanted to play around with a legendary birthing pod effect to see how that would run.
I couldn't not make a Yuri on Ice reference. The biggest reason I'm probably not running Zacama, is just due to how high the CMC in this deck is on average. It's really hard to narrow down that end of my list because there are sooooo many high cost legends I adore.
So my primary reasoning for Tooth and Nail is actually kind of the opposite. I'm running it as a way to pump out multiple cards if I'm having trouble keeping Jodah in play. It's something that might phase out as it gets harder to narrow down new legends, but mostly I'm hard casting it to get two legends out pretty quickly (especially if I can entwine it for the tutor!).Quote from SlaveToPhage »Hey, nice to see a decklist like this posted. Ive tried my hand at legendary tribal before, and it fell flat mostly because the core elements of an edh deck were not there. So I noticed Tooth n Nail, and not much ramp because you are primarily using Jodah's ability, which does not let you entwine it.
What about See the Unwritten ?? The deck has high creature count. Cost less.
What about more cheap creature tutors too help so you can get your key players out, like Reki, Johira and Sisay.
Also, The Mimeoplasm for dead legends.
See the Unwritten is one I actually hadn't considered! I was planning on finding a way to squeeze in Selvala's Stampede which is similar, but I may look in to using both depending on how I end up using Niv Mizzet, Reborn, as that will be a deciding factor in how many slots I need to force open (two or three). Tooth and Nail is, of course, potentially on the table for that but first cut will likely be Jhoira's Familiar.
The Mimeoplasm is also one I'll have to think on. I"m mostly worried he'll bite the dust super fast, but he definitely could be cute if he gets to stick around.
Mar 27, 2019We finally have an update! I have played around with cuts to finally figure out what I wanted to change up for a few cards I was looking at:Posted in: Multiplayer Commander Decklists
Commune with Lava
I ended up liking Banner as a better 'on cast' effect over Oketra's Monument, just due to how much straight card draw is needed in this deck, as good as monument can be. Adding a lord effect on top of that makes the card too good to pass up. As for Commune with Lava, it is being cut because it is a high risk card. You risk losing high value cards to exile based on your mana situation as well as potentially over committing to the board to avoid exiling cards. Cutting it for Combat Celebrant, which I've been looking to include for a long while, seemed like a no-brainer.
Mar 25, 2019I have some amount of sympathy for scooping early (provided that the playgroup in question still enforces relevant triggers for the rest of the table), because I will scoop to cards like Scrambleverse or Thieves' Auction due to having previously lost moderately expensive cards as a result.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
That being said, I don't really agree with the manipulation part of it. Either stick to your guns and scoop without the threats, or grit your teeth and play through it.
