So lately I've become pretty bored with all of my decks and have been trying to come up with something new, but can't really find anything that suits my style. So I'm here looking for suggestions.
The issue that I'm having is that I have a particular way that I enjoy playing edh, I'll explain that in a bit, but first I should tell you about the group that I play in.
Basically my group consists of 5-6 regulars, and 2-3 people who rotate in from week to week. There really isn't a particular "style" or "theme" to the group, the easiest way to explain it is anything goes. We have no house rules, and everyone plays what ever they want, tax, stax, infect, lock down, combo, etc.... you get the point, its a really awesome laid back group.
Now the way that I enjoy playing is best described as durdle/janky. I like to just quietly sit there, play my lands, drop a creature, artifact, or enchantment, but not really do much other than build incremental advantage, fly under the radar, and let everyone else waste their resources on killing each other. Then once they start to slow down, I move in for the kill. This normally means that I play decks built around commanders that are unusual, or unassuming.
For a long time I have had a Varolz deck that has been my pride and joy, played the way I wanted to, and could kill when ever I wanted. But I over played it, and now have been trying to find something new for a few months.
This is hopefully where all of you guys/girls come in, I really need help with building a new "durdly" deck, that isn't a blue control deck...... I hate blue control decks, nothing against anyone who likes that style but just not something I enjoy.
I am up for playing basically any commander or colour (again except for blue control) so please if you can think of any fun durdly/janky deck that will let me fly under the radar let me know.
My two resolutions are
1 complete the switch of commanders in my g/b deck from varolz to Skullbriar.
2 make a deck that has blue in it and that I enjoy. Blue is my least favourite and every time I build a blue based deck I Play it for a few weeks and just end up disliking it. Something about playing blue just bothers the hell out of me.
I do have a soft spot for Rakdos the Defiler, but one misplay and you're pretty boned. One other legend you may want to at least consider is Malfegor. although discarding your hand is tough blowing up all of the creatures your opponents control is pretty fun.
So I've hit a wall with my all time favourite deck Varolz, the Scar-Striped, I'm bored of it. So I'm here looking for advice on maybe a different direction to take it, or suggestions on what changes I should make. I should say before I get into it, that I only play multiplayer edh.
Its so frustrating because I think that its a pretty good deck, and it was honestly the first deck that I built from the ground up on my own, its also the deck that I've put the most time, effort and money into. I just cant bring myself to play it at all anymore.
The biggest issue that I've realized I have with the deck, is it plays out the exact same way every game. Fill my grave with low cmc high power creatures, scavenge on to Varolz and start killing with commander damage. Which is basically what the deck should be doing since it is a voltron deck, but after playing this deck for a few years, and having it basically built in the same style that whole time, its gotten really stale.
I'll finish by saying, that graveyard deck are my favourite, so I would like to keep a grave theme going, and also I do want to keep this a B\G deck as that is my favourite of the colour combinations.
Thanks
So my playgroup is going to be starting a budget deck challenge, $65 starting limit. I've got a first draft of my deck put together, done some playtesting on mtgo, and have done pretty well, but just looking for some suggestions on any changes I should make.
This is one of the main cards that does a lot of work in my varolz deck, in the early game if I cast entomb you can be sure this is the card going to the grave.
Jarad, Golgari Lich lord would benefit greatly from it, if you sacrifice with the trigger on the stack. 2GBExsanguinate for 12 is nothing to scoff at.
This is one of my favourite ways to close out a game in my varolz deck. I've got a lot of cheap reanimate spells, so sometimes I'll win a game off of saccing dreadnought to jarad two or three times in a turn. It should be noted that it doesn't work exactly like exsanguinate, because you don't gain any life at all.
I do similar dirty things with Jarad, Dreadnaught, and lifeline. End of each trun, the Dreadnaught recurs and hits for 12. seedborn muse is typically involved.
I've never seen lifeline before, looks like it would fit right in to my deck. Time to go shopping at my lgs lol.

And if you really want to say "f you in particular" Mind Extraction is an awesome sac outlet for CoA.
I did play a CoA control deck for a while, took it apart because my playgroup didn't enjoy playing against it anymore. Mind extraction was one of my favourite cards in the deck, sac CoA, wipe the board and destroy one players hand, awesome.
You will need some non land permanents, I would suggest bringer of the black dawn vampiric tutor on a body.
gift of immortality as long as you have a reusable sac outlet you can wipe the board every turn.
Also if you're going to run a combo as your win con, which is what I did make sure to add in both conflux and all Suns' dawn so you can get your whole combo, assuming they are cards of different colours, when ever you want.
Good luck with the deck, and be prepared for your friends not liking the deck lol
Ps here's my deck list, it's not actually the final build that I had put together, forgot to update before taking it apart, but it may give you some other ideas. http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/coa-control/
Hey everyone I've recently built a Karona, false god edh deck, and I've got a question.
If I give Karona hexproof, for example with swiftfoot boots, when I pass the turn and my opponent gains control of Karona who can target Karona? Am I able to target Karona because I'm the controller of the boots or is my opponent able to target Karona because they now control Karona?
