What do you think about a Desolate Lighthouse instead (or, perhaps, in addition to) those Lonely Sandbars? Almost every mana ability I cast uses a colorless mana anyway, and it gets a little more use out of those red producing lands. That's why I went with a Double Negative too.
It seems like Jace's Phantasm would be a lot better in Standard than he would be in this format.
But yeah, that cumulative upkeep is a sounding a lot more of a burden the longer I think about it, so I'm switching it out for 2 Walls of Frost and 2 Fog Banks. I don't really think there will be much burn or removal in this game, so that Fog Bank would be super useful.
As for Tarland, would you suggest just holding on to him, until you can make one big turn, or hope to get him out early?
I really want a Jace, Memory Adept, but I just can't justify spending $6 on a card (yet), especially one with that art style (I'll keep telling myself that's the reason anyhow ^_^).
I think I might have too many come into play tapped lands, as well. What do you think?
Thanks guys. I really need to buy some more cards. I guess the best way to do that will be to figure out the deck I want to use and get it off of TCG.
I really like millstone. It seems like such a great deck concept. Not only do I get rid of large swathes of an opponent's cards out of his deck, but I can also win the game that way? Count me in.
With that in mind, the cards Palnar linked make me REALLY want to make one. So, I made an attempt.
To keep it friendly, I wouldn't do anything like a 2 card combo
What do you mean? I haven't got a chance to try my Seance Combo yet. Do you think it has an unfair advantage? If so, that would be GREAT. My friend can get somewhat, excited for lack of a better word, during a game, and I'd love to have something cheap to play against him. He also talks a lot a smack too, so it'd be really satisfying.
Perhaps it is just the high-life format I play in that makes millstone a bit more powerful, but I have got some really pissed responses from Tome Scours that have been play late in the game.
Me and my friends play this odd format that my friend who has been playing for years likes: 60 life, 40-75 card deck, no banned cards (but, that doesn't matter as none of us has any banned cards anyway), and three players.
I am fairly new, and haven't got tons of cards (I've bought a Deckbuilder's Toolkit, a couple of Boosters, and the Seance deck from the standard budget forums)
I also have the advantage of having a pretty good idea of what I will be playing against. A Soul Burn deck and an Angellic Accord White/Green deck.
This deck really feels all over the place. Some things I had in mind:
My current main strategy is Corrupt>Put down an Archaeomancer>Use Tyramet to Sacrifice it>Get it back from the graveyard (Either through Corpse Hauler, Midnight Recovery, March of the Returned, or if I can ever get it off, a Ciphered Midnight Recovery on my Reaper of the Wilds)>Rinse>Wash>Repeat.
I was debating on getting a Mono Black Rats deck that I saw in the Budget Forums, since it was so cheap, but after looking at the Sliver deck, I really want to try it. My friend has a really good White/Green deck (my first time playing was using one of his decks vs him and another friend) that has a couple of creatures with Protect (one usually gets an enchantment that makes it end up with protect against Red, Blue, AND Black!), so that would be a good way to get around it.
In theme, though, I like that Black deck. Sacrificing, deck manipulation, that stuff looks like my kind of play, but from what I've read (which is a quite small amount), Mono color decks are becoming less useful in the modern game. What is your take on that?
which costs a bit more, but it'S not thtat steep of an investment and you should already have a feeling if you generally like the game. Because well, if you lost 29/30 games and still want to play I'd say you're interested^^
Ha, This is a good point. I guess that I AM pretty sure I want to play. I probably should've said that I wanted to practice.
Is Pauper something that is exclusively an online thing? I wanted to play with real cards, and I don't want to put any unnecessary restrictions on my self, as my money is enough of a limited factor :).
I have been considering getting into Magic, and I wanted to use the Free Trial that MTGO offers to get a general feel for the game while I save money to get a real deck. However, every person I play completely wrecks me.
I have been playing the Black/Red Death Reaper deck, because I want to play Black when I eventually get some money, and it seemed like the most Black-themed deck.
My general strategy has been to hope I get enough Swamps in the early game to get some creatures down and attack before the other guy puts down a creature that mops the floor with mine (which is apparently all of them), is a flyer, or is green and puts down 15 lands. Or if I manage to get a Bogbrew Witch, to put out Bubbling Cauldron and sacrifice newts like it is something to do. I have won 1 out of maybe 30 games this way.
Can someone either recommend me one of the other decks or help me form a better strategy with the current one?
