I'm pretty casual, so I don't mind pointing it out. Honestly, I think I'd probably help point it out in a tournament as well. Winning/losing like that is not very fun for anybody involved, I think.
That being said, it's recently become common practice in my group to set the pact card face-up on top of the library until it's paid for, so people rarely miss the trigger anyway.
And what TheArtificer just posted is why I am now worried about this set. WotC has lost my confidence.
Why is the reaction to all news here inevitably 'This isn't precisely what I imagined it was going to be? Then clearly it's going to be intolerable and I can somehow tell that without any knowledge of what it actually is going to be!'
I have the same observation and also find it troubling. I typically feel exactly the opposite.
did Justin McShane punt game 3? Opponent at 9 with Lifebane, Cackler, and Scarhide untapped with a tapped Herald of Torment. Justin had Precinct x2, Fiendslayer, and 4 1/1 tokens. An alpha just wins right?
He has 10 damage and opponent blocks a 2 power attacker and goes to 8, the herald trigger kills him on upkeep? The guy had 1 mana open so not like Justin was playing around anything.
Yes, I can see how those could be effective. However, if you played an artifact/blue EDH deck that relied on activated abilities of artifacts you would not really be able to use Damping Matrix. Unless you used it until you found removal for the Perilous Vault...
that's how we do it works great...
