Dude on Reddit thinks Gitaxian Probe should be banned.

We have reached new amazing levels in the ban list discussion as an MTG community.

    Well done team.

I think it's more an argument against free spells. The only decks that really play GP is are the aggro-combo decks such as affinity and death shadow zoo.

For the record I think probe is fine in modern. It's just the classic case of someone misidentifying the problem card(s).

It makes Delver even worse and Deaths Shadow and Infect would just replace them with Vines/Apostles Blessing or something. Probe is not an offending card.

Went 2-2 last night, losing 0-2 to RG Ponza (they were silly games and I drew quite poorly) and then 0-1-1 to 'Blue Jund'. I would have won game 2 if it hadn't gone to time.

I beat Jeskai Flash 2-1 and Affinity 2-0.

This was my first time playing with Pyromancer and he was MVP all night. I now get the hype. He took over the game against Affinity and Jeskai.

I am on Kevin Jones' 60 except with 1 less Electrolyze and 1 more counterspell. I think it was a great list.

Also, Blood Moon won me the game whenever it came down and I want a second.

So are we thinking Bant Eldrazi is safe to buy into if I so desired? It seems like it is sitting at pretty average win rates and GP placing.

Is this deck playable without Tarns and AV? I have the classic Ryan Overturf list. I need to sell some cards to make some quick money, and I was thinking Tarns and AV would be the biggest bucks without sacrificing much playablity.

Ancestral Vision? Sure it is fine without. Tarns? Not so much imo, but you can always sub some other blue fetch if you need to. This is assuming you have 4x Deltas already.

Rest in Peace is very good against Grixis and one of the reasons I run Jeskai over Grixis in Modern, we don't rely as much on the GY.

SCG is notorious for clickbait 'ban this' articles, especially on premium so you have to get through a pay wall. They have a new ban article every couple months. Just ignore them.

think cavern of souls is ban worthy?

as for modern being a "bad" format, I feel that is incorrect, IMO anyways. I feel its a fun format, minus dredge being good

Nah. Control decks can just run wraths in the main and it gets the job done. Cavern is great for tribal support (Fish, tentacles) but not ban worthy. If Eldrazi ends up needing to get hit they will hit Temple.

that's true, they can just ban temple if Elsrazi gets out of control

now that I think of it, no other tribal decks really do anything broken

Nope. Fish and to a lesser extent Spirits have been seeing play but Eldrazi is the big one and I think it is fine still. It gets boinked pretty hard by faster 'wider' decks and control can be built to get it pretty good with Verdicts and Cryptics and stuff.

I honestly think everything is fine right now.

my buddy suggested dropping 2 Nahiris (so go down to 2 copies of it instead of a set) to play Gideon Jura and Jace, architect of thought at the Face to Face Open in Toronto this weekend

what do people think of that?

No way. I ran Gideon and Jace in draw go and it was fine. With this list my win con is Nahiri into Emrakul and I am not diluting that. I did add an Ajani Vengeant to the main as an alt threat, but I would never cut back on Nahiri.

I've come to the realization after GP Dallas that Modern will never turn out the way I want it to be. WOTC is clearly happy that Modern is a "blazing fast format" and quite frankly I honestly don't think WOTC cares if the format is balanced or not. I think WOTC purposely made Modern the way it is today, simply to frustrate very competitive players to migrate over to Standard (which I have done) and of course it benefits WOTC the more people that play Standard. I've basically come to accept what Modern's goal is as a format (diverse decks), and accept the fact that it won't be a format for me where I can build one deck and crush everything since WOTC actively discourages that by taking action with the banlist on said decks.

GP Dallas made you realize this? With Skred Red, Grixis, and UWR Control in the top 8? I mean yeah there were 3 infect decks but I thought GP Dallas was fantastic in showcasing different decks. The SCG Modern even the same weekend was even more diverse.

Diversity is not a selling point for me, high amounts of diversity means I'm more at the mercy of the pairings board. I like playing decks where I can beat everything, and Modern currently does not do that for me. I can't pick up a strategy in Modern right now that's 80/20 versus the entire field, WOTC would kill off that deck in an instant if that existed in Modern. That's why I liked Birthing Pod, Splinter Twin, and Amulet Bloom, they beat a vast majority of the field. Which is a quality I look for in decks.

Oh. Well then I guess we don't have much to talk about lol.

They will never change the sideboard numbers.

Honestly my hope is they just throw Force of Will into Modern Masters 17 and say 'Here, regulate your own format'.

Speaking of things they'll never do. Introducing cards to modern outside of standard is very likely to be outside their best interests. I'm absolutely certain that WotC is concerned that standard-based sales would tank way more than any increase in modern-based sales if they bypass standard. There is basically no upside to doing that from their perspective, so I think we should believe them when they say that cards get to modern though standard as a rule.

Yep I know. I still think Force would be great in Modern. There is a reason Legacy is such a healthy format, and Force is a large part of that.

This talk is about Modern, but I consider Legacy to be super broken, and super unhealthy as a whole. I don't want Force of Will in Modern either because it will create situations like "spinwheel" about if you do have Fow And a blue card in your hand, on top of being too strong for Modern.

I'm aware what the discussion is about, thanks. You consider Legacy broken and unhealthy? Have you played it?

FoW creates card disadvantage but allows you to not die on turn 1 to Belcher or TES. Legacy is the healthiest format in MTG and I have never heard someone who has actually played Legacy say it is 'super broke and unhealthy'. Sorry man but it will be hard for me to take your argument seriously here.
