Okay. Some guy named Adam Yurchick said adding a color slows it down-then goes and play 3 Temples in the deck, I see, I run 1 more tapped land more than him, I'm gonna slow down and lose to him always because Magic is chess. Lol, in all seriousness, try out the splash. I added percentages to mono red in return my build does have decreased percentages against Demons&Dragons, but who plays that anymore?:-/ And wasn't BBD the one who decided to Dark Betrayal Erebos and take to the high seas with Thassa?
The guys wins a GP and your talking trash about the deck that qualified him for a pro tour because he switched it up? Dude, I don't know what you've got to prove with this but I'm ready to see it. If you never cipt a shock land your pants are on fire. Plus you play guild gates - I mean come on.
Replies in quotes are in GREEN because that color is awesome.
I'm playing 4 Thrill-Kill Assassin main, because Devour Flesh can't swing. I ditched demons for reavers(which absorbed lightning strikes all day), and finally I settled with 4 Reaper of the Wilds, because it actually was what I want it to do, be relevant in all matchups. I must say 0 dead cards against control is so ridiculously fun.:D
Dude, most of what you responded to was a direct quote from a tcg article Adam yurchick wrote. I made it clear that those were his words not mine. Maybe you should go pen him a message in what ever color floats your boat. Maybe being greedy with green will get you somewhere - the pro's disagree. I disagree. We disagree. We agree on that.
What are peoples thoughts about playing both Demon and Reaver? not as a 2/2 split but maybe a 4/3 or something? cutting Erebos, maybe shaving one removal spell and a pack rat too? Erebos and Pack rat's taken from the MB would most likely find their way SB
Im also looking at going back to straight Mono for a while to see how it compares as when i thought about some of my matches that were close, the land coming into play tapped was a significant factor.
If you just want to cram reaver into the existing list and not build around him like I thought you meant just drop the whip. I think its kinda slow and unimpressive where reaver is big and nasty and the same cmc. I was playing against mono blue d and I had him dead on bored but I didn't realize it until someone told me to devour my own merchant and whip it back. Then it dawned on me. Mono blue doesn't kill ANYTHING. They bounce or make their guys unblock able or turn your dudes into frogs or just straight up take them. So screw whip. Take it out. Erebos takes care of life gain in the mirror and assuming they play one too whip is dead there swell. Perfect spot for reaver - don't cut removal - add more pack rat
And even then its still pretty good. Having Abrupt and Downfall to kill Domri can be very helpful. Its better than Devour Flesh where they can just sac a mana dude
Mono black has thought seize, duress, and pithing needle on turn one for domri. You don't need green and if on the play I'm happy to devour flesh a mana dork - it slows them down and makes demon better. I would like to meet this person who convinced everyone mono black has got to play green.
i highly disagree that splashing green hurts the reg aggro matchup.
-golgari charm provides a a board wipe for X/1s. or at least mess up combat math
-abrupt decay is basically unconditional
if anything, i felt like the green splash hurts the G/x devotion ramp decks matchup
Dude he doesn't mean the spells you splash are bad he is saying your mana base makes you slow and weak to aggro as opposed to being one color because these dual lands are terrible,
You guys talking about liliana's reaver should try pairing him with mogis's marauder - that seems pretty good
I'll whip maruder back in play - give all my guys haste and intimidate and life link RA!
That guy I just quoted plays one e boss main and one board but he also plays one whip main and one board so no drawing into legends game one when you aren't exactly sure what your up against. I'm going to try that this week and uping devour because a lot of kids have caught on that blood baron sorta wrecks house. I'll try to remember the matches so I can write a quick report like you. I hope all my mono red opponents keep one landers and every thought seize is a revelation ftw
I have no idea how any of that works i'm just abbreviating it to TNM rather than writing 'random standard tournament that happens on tuesdays'
That's cool. Whenever you can get a bunch of guys together to play who cares what day it is? I noticed you're a splasher. I'm quoting Adam Yurchick here:
"Should I splash another color?
I do not believe another color is necessary, and that overall a splash takes away from the deck by diluting consistency, slowing it down, and making the mana base more painful. Brian Braun-Duin, who helped to popularize the deck with his GP win, has gone on record saying he does not believe splashing adds anything to the deck, which in my mind means it takes something away. I want my deck to be consistent and well-rounded for a broad metagame.
Splashing can be used to hone certain matchups, but it necessarily is going to create a disadvantage elsewhere. I do know that people have had success splashing, particularly with green as a way to get an edge in the mirror match. Splashing Abrupt Decay and Golgari Charm is certainly a way to get an edge in the mirror match, but keep in mind it will cost percentages in other places, such as against red aggro.
I do admit I am looking forward to the coming sets in Theros block, along with the additional scry lands. I am fully open to splashing a color and believe this might be the way of the future the deck, but I don't expect that to happen until another set or two is released and the metagame has further evolved."
Thoughts?
For the record I will never EVER ever play a guildgate. nEver.
He did mention he is playig mud but he never said that mono black d sucks. He said the mirror match was a coin flip. But isn,'t most miiror matches? I don't understand his reasoning and I think he just doesn't want to get pegged as the mono black guy. There are only so many articles you can pump out about the same deck and he makes his living writing articles for the free side of scg. What would you expect him to do?
I do not say "mono black devotion" is **** nor do i say "black devotion with colorsplash" is ****.
So, where is your problem ?
Since the thread isnt called "mono black devotion", i guess its allowed to discuss the splashes here ...
@Horo
Some players play this demon, but i didnt, because i didnt know what i should expect from this card. I tried the Abhorrent Overlord a short time, well, if he can hit with enoguh devotion, then this guys is a bomb but with its high manacosts of 7, i thought he would be too expensive.
I dunno man. Ask OP why he wants to bring it back to being a mono colored discussion. I just think you splash guys are taking a streamlined deck and trying to get cute for no reason. Your trying to cram janky cards into a solid build. It doesn't bother me, I hope everyone tries to sway from the proven list. Makes my day easier.
I had this one dream I was at my lgs and playing in a tournament like usual and then after the first game I was like excuse me I gotta go to the restroom. I get in there and it all small and weird and someone had peed on the floor, ew. Anyway I woke up and had to urinate like a race horse.

I thought in order to be a sanctioned FNM event it had to be on Friday. TNM? What gives?
This is SO true and not just about MTG - about anything ever written.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, and if that's the case wouldn't pithing needle serve the exact same purpose and be cheaper and easier to cast?
I don't understand this statement. Could someone explain how Rest in peace is even remotely good against mono black
