I wonder where the Mirari stands on this list. It's certainly a villain in its own right. An inanimate object, but the Eldrazi in ways aren't entirely sentient either. It's certainly a villain that corrupts villains.

What if Ulamog departs from Zendikar instead of being defeated? And Zendikar is saved by eradicating the brood lineage instead? Ulamog may just be the only opponent but his loss isn't necessarily guaranteed. That and we still don't know that they even will try to kill him. In order to preserve the nature of Zendikar as a tempestuous plane it may end up being where Ulamog alone is sealed, and that they'll dedicated 2 other individual planes to sealing the others, or whatever, if one plane didn't prove capable of containing all 3. Who knows.

I see. Theros is my favorite plane alongside Zendikar and some of my favorite artworks in the game. I thought Kruphix's Insight was a good balance of both on your part. Loved that art. We know the Eldrazi are less likely to go to Theros as it is a very popular setting, and if they did arrive there I highly doubt the plane would be wiped out, like I doubt Zendikar will be.

That said, they can head right over to Phyrexia, Mirrodin or whatever the artifact plane was and those places. Did not like the metal artwork or those acid green swamps etc.

]Maybe he just didn't like working on the art for that block. *shrug*

    Damn, busted.

What about it didn't you like?

I also doubt they'll add the corruption element that is the core of the Phyrexian threat to the Eldrazi. The unnerving aspect of the Eldrazi is that there is no reasoning with or understanding them beyond knowing their one motive. Even their purpose is unknown. They/Ulamog will likely just remain as incomprehensible and formidable foes. Bolas is the powerful/intelligent threat and Phyrexia is the frightening and corrupting force.

I'm pleased this art made it to a card. Was so upset when we never got the Elspeth murdered by Heliod art on a card. I love this art too, it's like "you live, my old friend!" Aww, reunion at long last. Now for war alongside eachother once more in October. Grin

    - Nissa = G
    - Kiora = Either U or UG
    - Ugin = Colorless
    - Sorin = Probably B
    - Nahiri = W

That leaves Gideon. Will he be Mono W despite a potential Nihari as well? That's what I am wondering. I certainly wouldn't mind it. I think he's best as that, especially with Elspeth out of the picture for now.

Honestly, even though I know they're spelled differently and exist on different planes, I feel like Heliod and the Order of Heliud are related.

I agree, if only in name at least.

So I was reading more about this on Reddit and I really like the idea proposed there about Gideon never knowing his father and possibly being the son of Heliod, like Hercules was of Zeus in a way, since he is holding a spear like his in the new art. It might explain his powers, since doesn't Gideon have some kind of immunity to physical force or something? IDK. It would be pretty interesting nonetheless.
The gods, as we know them, don't function that way. If Gideon had been created by any of the gods, he would be a Nyxborn, but quite frankly, we have no reason to believe the gods are even capable of normal reproduction.

People keep saying the "Order of Heliud" isn't about Heliod but honestly a one letter retcon seems extremely likely now that we know he's from Theros.
except of course the fact that the Order was based entirely around the Purifying Fire on Regatha.

I like the prospect of Heliod's heroic son as a PW despite not being a god. It's very Greek too, but speculation at best.

I know. It's just speculation. It would be very Greek if true, and newt if the heroic son of Heliod and a human, although not a god, was a PW. We'll have to wait and see but I admire the prospect alone if nothing else.

I agree with you. At least in name if nothing else.

I remember reading that they had done that and found it impressive. Which book was it in again? I'm surprised you think even Bolas couldn't make it past them by force either - any reason for that? I figured he's a powerful entity in his own right who has been there before (not that I disagree).

    It was in Future Sight.
As to the rest, the sisters only barred Leshrac because Bolas had rolled up on Kamigawa to mete out some revenge against Night's Reach and the Umezawa lineage and once he left the sisters basically went "oh heeeeell no, that's not happening again."

The fact they could tell Leshrac no means they really stood with oldwalker level powers, and while Bolas ultimately won that duel, Bolas isn't what he used to be either.

Valid logic. I think the sisters are as powerful as they are because in part they're not just beings exactly, but literally the planar boundary of Kamigawa as well (which O-Kagachi was) because once he manifested in the physical realm of Kamigawa, Night's Reach could travel the Multiverse. So they have an abstract quality to them too.

I wonder what Bolas did when he entered Kamigawa in search of Night's Reach? I know she claimed he destroyed her domains and turned her followers against her. So I'm guessing the Sisters saw him destroying shrines and stuff and decided PWs were a threat. He must have also found Night's Reach on Kamigawa when he took her original mask since she couldn't travel the planes at that point (I'm guessing). Not sure how she recruited Leshrac though, unless she made mana bonds with other planes when she did travel or something. I'll have to read the part where they basically go "No." to Leshrac lol. It'd be fascinating to see if they can bar Eldrazi from entering. Doubt it.

True. O-Kagachi was a big deal and they took him down, so I imagine they're tough contenders. Not up there alongise Eldrazi or Bolas, but probably in the league of the Theros gods, Marit Lage, etc.
They actively barred Leshrac from entering Kamigawa when he was tracking Bolas during their duel. Bolas as he is now probably couldn't force his way into the world with them on the gates.

I'd put the sisters substantially higher than the Theros gods simply for that fact.

I'd say Marit Lage is stronger than the Sisters though. In fact my list would basically be:

    Emrakrul
    Kosilek
    Ulamog
    Bolas
    Marit Lage

Thread asks power, not the biggest threat to PWs.

No mention of Kamigawa's power duo Kyodai and Michiko who guard their plane.

I hope they defeat Ulamog or whatever in the first set, and the effect of doing so releases mana it has consumed over Millennia into Zendikar, which revives the plane and we get adventure/exploration of the old Zendikar days again in the second set of the new block.
