Way to buy into propaganda. And the Trump reference about "locker room talk" - way to push your political agendas on a card game forum and assume your opinions are the status quo, and the only right way to think. That's why everyone is sick of liberals and SJWs. Arrogance and ignorance. No one gives a damn bro, we're here for card games. Get over yourselves and off your righteous soapbox.Posted in: Articles

I did not like that Zendikar did not consume the titan's power, as it was originally set to do. There are still voids of negative space? How can the plane ever recover its lost mana now? How can it becomes the vast, lush Adventure World it once was? The story even set things up to be that way, but it didn't happen... I'm confused. Why bother going to the outrageous trouble of saving Zendikar at the cost of killing the Eldrazi from a creative perspective if it's still the damaged old husk of the world it once was? Was the only benefit of killing off major cosmic villains really *just* to give the Gatewatch a first win? Zendikar should have drained the titans, and begun to recover. I see no reason why this was not the case.
Story was well written but it didn't tie up enough loose ends.
BFZ. Expected Adventure World, got Eldrazi Ruins. Expected a focus on defeating the Eldrazi, got the Gatewatch instead. Both of which could be pluses, but instead deterred the focus of the story.
In my posts before the BFZ URs started, this was something I actually anticipated to happen. That Jace would attempt this, and possibly fail, but that we'd have some insight on the titans. Oh well.
If I had a choice, all decks would be monochrome every year. I love mono color. When are we finally getting Serra PW?
I should have bought it when it is $25.
The lore, that idyllic plane. I love Theros so much it's the plane I would want to be from as a Planeswalker. I mean heroes, gods and monsters. There is literally nothing else a fantasy game could want.
Your avatar.
What is it from.
It's clear this story suffered from poor, limited planning, a revolving door of authors with inconsistent capabilities (some of which were entirely new and handed responsibilities beyond their present talents), disproportionate pacing and questionable partitioning of material, linear goals, transparent endpoints, and worst of absolute all, modeling future lore after the Avengers franchise, which is nothing more than mindless saturation of adrenaline to compensate for quality, thought-provoking content. Major villains were cheapened and prior lore was compromised in credibility in favor of marketing. A shame.
Kamigawa series and Godsend were good. This was embarrassing save for a few gems.
Agree about Theros and Khans. Theros was very much popular on the casual scene, and Khans was all-around a grand disappointment.
Guess getting owned by Thassa and Kozilek wasn't enough to give Kiora any real dimension. She had potential to become something more, but just like this entire BFZ story, it will not be realized. I really can't believe she even has the heart to wield that Bident after how she failed.
The mystery of the ending was actually good. But what about Zendikar recovering its mana, and draining the titans? Well, one story left to wait for and see. I can just imagine it'll be Beyer again, or even better, Kreines delivering the cherry on top of this all.
Kiora draining out Zendikar's entire ocean and hurling it at Nissa? I don't doubt the Bident's ability to accomplish this, but the mere act just felt like a typical Avengers movie, where grandiose, adrenaline-laden action scenes with minimal purpose to resolving the plot try to compensate for any real, respectable material. Weren't the titans materializing in reality, an entire plane combating them with its mana, and the death of Eldritch cosmic horrors in one short, rushed story enough of a thrill? There needs to be focus in storytelling, and piling on more adrenaline to wean away from adequate descriptive text in key story moments compromises attention. Restraint would have worked wonders for this piece. Major action scenes like this truly test a writer's capabilities. The instinct is to make it flashy and overwhelming - but it peters out without focused content. Never overtax your reader by splitting their attention between something unnecessary and irrelevant. I'm not going to address a simple counterspell negating a god-weapon cast spell, even if it was for humor.
All this rush, only to go nowhere. I could see any writer, without access to Creative's notes reproducing this by taking the most literal approach to storytelling. I can only respect the idea of the Eldrazi engaged in a consumption war with the plane, being more adept at winning it, and the mysterious ending. Otherwise, this story did not engage my emotions whatsoever the way Kelly Digges has been known to do, or The Blight We Were Born For had. Those were stories that built up to and fleshed out critical plot moments, that honed in a reader's focus and kept momentum when unforeseen twists took place. This was just one homogenous free-for-all explosion of adrenaline and logistics that was confusing and tiring.
But I do agree Yugioh-style reprints would also be catastrophic to MTG. It's a tough balancing act. I'll have to wait and see. But as someone who played Yugioh for 12 years, everything that Konami does (and to a greater extent, what it never manages to ever do) is a phenomenal failure.
Believe it or not I REALLY want Tragic Poet to be in this as a common in the new border too.
