The Theriad could refer to Elspeth either literally when she Planeswalked there upon her spark igniting, mythologically by incorporating her story with elements of Theros that its residents could understand being unable to comprehend other planes and the idea of Planeswalking, or as her story is seen by Oracles who predicted her arrival and destiny, since Theros is no stranger to prophecy.
I am stunned that NONE of the gods so far have gotten a gameday playmat.

Ugh don't remind me. Fortunately Ephara's Radiance has the art I wanted to I can forgive this mat being horrid. Frankly a lot of mostly Black and Red cards in Theros don't really feel Greek. The Returned give me Ravnica Thrull vibes. I'm heartbroken a Persephone card wasn't made either. But Oracle's Insight is a thing, and I am more than pleased.
Ugly, disgusting Minotaurs killing sexy men in Greek attire just irritates the living crap out of me. More hawt, less not. Also, more Frescoes, Artists, Human Wizards and a Legendary Oracle please. Until I get a Pythia Legendary that has a remarkable effect, I will be upset.

I think my only disappointments with this set are:
Meletis Astronomer not being an Augur of Bolas for Enchantments
Flame-Wreathed Phoenix not automatically having the recycle ability with or without tribute.
Vortex Elemental not being a more powerful Legendary
I can live with Oracle's Insight and Ephara's Radiance being Auras instead of Instants that did something else though.

Wish WotC wasn't so concerned with satisfying the basement punks who want this game to be grungy. I remember with Avacyn Restored MaRo was so defensive about the darkness on Innistrad still being there and trying not to get backlash for finally writing a story where good and pretty things finally win.
Theros is thankfully full of pretty cards. Shame THEY weren't on a mat instead.

Not sure about the Kraken yet. It looks more like a giant centipede to me for some reason. I feel like I'll end up loving it but at first glance it's not what I expected.
The recycle ability should have been default. It's a Phoenix. That's what they do. Theros should have been where the most powerful Phoenix to date resides. I love the art on this one most.
