Actually, Nassari was Compleated. She's the final antagonist at the end of the Strixhaven mini-sode of March of the Machine, and is responsible for the events that led to Quintorius sparking. The fact that she seems totally fine in the leaked card is also weird.

Don't worry, it will all make sense in MoM: Aftermath.

    Uhh
Reminds me of Yugioh "lore," where players infer the story from contradictory art with minimal context and completely random events, but no formal source.

Thugs at their personal home, making their wife cry at the door over cards that are being spoiled and released two weeks later when a simple demand letter from an attorney would have resolved it? If there was anything illegal involved, litigation would be as well, but it isn't. Most likely, he acquired the cards legally via transaction that involved a mistake with the product names, as he stated. And he was clearly unaware of his rights. At minimum, he should have been paid for the product upfront if he wished to relent, and if not, he was under no legal obligation to surrender anything. I understand diffusing the situation, but the bigger issue here was the response from WOTC IMO.

oldschoolmtg posted a new video saying that Wizards sent the Pinkertons after him to recover all of the product, and as such he took the videos down for legal reasons:

I don't see why. It was legally purchased. I imagine whatever merchant/distributor that sent it out early mistook it for the standard MOM set. No fault of his. Not sure that he was legally obligated to relinquish anything to them.

I am pleased to finally have a Calix I can use as a Commander. I hope he will have a regular art version, instead of strictly constellation one. Seems he and many PWs returned to their respective home planes.

Kiora is interesting, especially as sea monster support. Rather unwieldily at 5 mana though. Making her a 2/3 for 3 might have worked better. I'll need to re-read a clearer image of her, but I wonder if her ability can keep triggering. She is surely on Zendikar though, there's no chance or reason for her to return to or strand herself on Theros.

We know next to nothing about Theros, though. And just because we know more about Theros than some other planes does not invalidate the massive gaping holes in and low quality of the lore for this set.

Are you aware that the set is called "March of the Machine" and not "Phyrexians attack Theros", right? Just asking.
Yeah, and there's minimal lore about the March of that Machine across all planes, including the one I care about most. And just because there's slightly more (but still bare minimum) detail about the latter relative to others, doesn't make the overall lack of story quality here any more palatable, in my opinion. Frankly, if Theros is the highlight of what we can expect to know about these planes thus far, it only reinforces my argument that the information was have is deficient at best.

A potential return to Theros sounds exhausting, with all the ground and residual plot it must cover, assuming it ever resolves any of it.

Here we go again, Wizards mistreatedy my favorite world and favorite goddess, therefore they are the worst, worst, worst!!!

I would say that Theros is no worse in this than other planes. Innistrad did not have a story the first time either.
Frankly, all the planes got shafted here, because there is just too little place and too much to cover.

Just face it, Theros is not special for Wizards, like it is for you. Tongue

That said, especially considering Theros and its way of metaphysical workings, it is almost given that the pantheon could be reinstated by a proveebial snap of the fingers, just say that the belief on the original gods was preserved somewhere by hidden groups of worshippers, and the gods will reform, in one way or another, maybe with changed names or redistributed domains. There is virtually no other world where doing this would be easier and more logical.
What damage? We know next to nothing about Theros. As usual.

We have seen numerous references. Tranquil Cove, several cameos in the story (especially Elspeth's), we know that Cymede, Polukranos got compleated, Kroxa released by Athreos to eat Phyrexians, we know that Meletis endured, we know Brimaz got compleated, we know that all five of the main gods have been compleated, we know that Ephara and Athreos live, we know this from here and here.

Led by a Phyrexian Ajani, the first wave of the invasion targeted temples and other places of worship. Due to the nature of faith on Theros, compleating the gods' devotees meant that the gods themselves, influenced by their new Phyrexian worshippers, succumbed and became Phyrexians as well.

The city of Meletis now stands as the last bastion of resistance against an endless onslaught of Phyrexian armies. Hordes of Phyrexian monstrosities assail the city from air, land, and sea, while Meletian defenders fight valiantly to drive them off. With the aid of Ephara, one of the few surviving Theros gods, sustained by the belief of those within the city walls, they've managed to hold their own—so far

As the invasion of Theros neared total compleation, the branches of the Invasion Tree pierced into the Underworld itself. The Phyrexian forces marched through, compleating all they touched . . . until they encountered Kroxa, the titan of death's hunger, who devoured them so thoroughly that no trace of them remained—not even glistening oil. Seeing this, Athreos made the choice to strike Kroxa's chains and set him loose within the Underworld. To keep the titan from escaping to the mortal realm, Athreos charged Kunoros with keeping him in check. Kunoros shepherds the paroled Kroxa, guiding it along the paths that Athreos wishes, where it will inflict the most damage to Phyrexians and least damage to everything else.

Summarized, we globally know a LOT more about Theros than e.g. Tarkir or even such planes like Innistrad. Yes, Eldraine and Innistrad got stories, but not very informative overall.

Please, stop sulking and pouting, start using the thing between your ears and don't force me openly mock you.
Theros didn't have a novel or series of stories last time, with all sorts of missing details and loose threads, and had even less than the bullet point list of story beats it had last time. Doesn't change my opinion that from a lore perspective, it's a mess of lacking detail/explanation.

Whereas partially true, this is not the topic here. Let me remind you - we were talking about this line of yours:

Theros had enough loose ends and cliffhangers, especially after the cancelled novel, but here we are again, with even more unaddressed information and negligence. The lore truly has achieved a new low. 6 feet under rock bottom at this point.

The kraken token is so utterly perfect

So brilliant, so excellent, so exceptional

    So everything

that upon seeing it, I ran down the stairs, threw myself onto the bed with a dramatic thud, sending the sheets skyward in an eruption of fabric, buried my head into the pillow like a Disney princess, and wailed the pure agony of overflowing tears into the saturating cotton

for I knew in this moment

that wait for these, I could not

I'm still so shell-shocked (yaaaas puns) that I have yet to even properly respond to this actually. I freakling ADORE this constellation Arixmethes. He deserves to be represented in Nyx!
It's easily the best constellation art we have.

plus now we see what arixmethes looks like as well
We've always known Arixmethes's appearance, although this is indeed our first chance to see his full unobscured form. This is a simplified depiction though, as the constellation artworks tend to be. I love it though.

I asked my friends to use this as a Simic Growth Chamber so I can play both this and the original in the same deck (original as Arixmethes himself)

Phyrexia doing this does warrant the question of whether the residual open portals will bring the Edrazi back into the fold. Namely because their function appears to be recycling planes, and perhaps in doing so, erasing such glitches in the multiverse, whereby one plane invades and corrupts others, which in natural circumstances, remain separate and distinct.

    Honestly

I was scrolling through these, progressively becoming more angry and pessimistic

"Look at all this trash" I whispered to myself, "all these awful selections, they'll never make the correct decision and give us an alternate art Arixmethes"

    .
    .
    .
    .
    .

When I finally saw that absolutely stunning, gorgeous, remarkable constellation Arixmethes being every damn thing I ever wanted and more, I became so overwhelmed with hype, I just burst into freaking tears and then short-circuited and died, leaving a Geist behind to write this

I am so dearly sorry to whoever pulls this at the pre-release. They'll never have a chance to enjoy it. Because I will immediately.

I wish I could feel even 5% of the joy you do whenever there's a kraken, sea monster or greek stuff coming out with cool art. (I'm not even kidding... it's great to feel happy)
Aww, thank you, I really appreciate your positive support of my enthusiasm Grin I just Lovell of that, and every time amazing artwork and cards like this are released, it is so invigorating for me Grin I am so thrilled to pursue and use all of these Theros and sea monster support cards Grin Including all those amazing Ephara themed cards Grin

I'm still so shell-shocked (yaaaas puns) that I have yet to even properly respond to this actually. I freakling ADORE this constellation Arixmethes. He deserves to be represented in Nyx!

I really would love new versions of him as well, with new, creative takes on his abilities to capture the unique nature of his size and status as Thassa's pet <3

He is so adorable. I love how the Theros gods have pets. Hopefully Polukranos will be healed. His new art is absolutely stunning, and Nylea finally has him back. Here's to Arixmethes having multiple iterations like Polukranos does (And Thraxes finally appearing on a card....)

I'm curious what is transpiring on Theros with Ephara. Especially after seeing Ephara's Dispersal. Erebeos does not appear phyrexianized, and I can only hope Thassa was not either (the story cameo of her implied she was not, but Invasion of Theros flavor text suggests otherwise, contradicting as usual). We know at least 3 Theros gods are turned.

    Ephara the True ;__;
It's very subtle (unlike Heliod's) but if you look closely you can see that Erebos has glistening oil dripping from his eyes and on his left hand/arm. He's at the very least in the early stages of compleation.
But Erebus's eyes always had those dark markings, and a dark vapor emanating from them. I did observe glistening oil on his hands and arms though, but I took that to mean initial exposure to it, rather than compleation. Could Ephara be using divine waters to be cleansing Erebus here?

I feel like certain gods were always predisposed to side with Phyrexia by nature, such as Phenax, who had no qualms stirring chaos with Ashiok previously, compleated or not. I would really like to know the status of the pantheon on Theros, how the invasion transpired and resolved there in detail, and especially Ephara's place in it in the end. It's unusual to see a minor god defeating a major one as depicted here. Yet we only have direct confirmation of one of the three compleated gods.

Does this mean Arixmethes has joined the fray?

I'm rather surprised such a massive creature isn't in Nyx like Polukranos originally was, frankly. There's no way he wouldn't at least have his own constellation. Such an elegant beauty of a kraken.

I remember missing the pincers at first back in 2018, but noticed them shortly afterward, underwater. Arixmethes appears to have tentacles near his mouth in the original art, which are a bit underscored in the new art, but the constellation artwork isn't meant to be as detailed and still appears gorgeous. I love that there's a subtle indication of the Arixmethes city as well.

WHICH I HOPE HAS A LEGENDARY LAND CARD SOMEDAY LIKE OLANTIN

the most shocking on the list is Seizan, Perverter of Truth I had no idea that kami was still alive after the kami war

Oh, a lot of the old kami are absolutely still around. One of the reasons the Kami War was ultimately unwinnable for mortalkind was the fact that they operate on D&D summoned-creature rules: even if you destroy a kami's physical manifestation, it just pops back in the kakuriyo and someone will have to fight it again eventually. Possibly you.

Even if you're particularly violent and decisive about killing a kami with magic, it will STILL come back in a different form - Hidetsugu did just that to Keiga, on screen no less, and she eventually showed back up as Kairi.

Basically, they're sort of like Theros gods in that they represent ideas more than anything else.

Does that mean there's hope for the Compleated Gods of Theros?
I believe so. The sun will endure, and in time be associated with Heliod once more for example, or with a new sun god, and devotion to that entity will re-form a sun god in Nyx. It has happened before. I suspect Heliod specifically has the upper hand in his domain in this respect, because unlike in the past, the unique aspect of the present Theros pantheon is that they acquired awareness of both each other, and themselves. This stabilized the pantheon to the extent that marble statues, temples, and scriptures arose documenting this current pantheon, so it may be Heliod that re-appears as the sun god again.
