As an flavor-centered EDH player, I've always been hoping for a Breeding Pool with more whimsical art. Instead we get a Breeding Pool with horror art. I mean, i guess the name "Breeding Pool" is hard to match with any whimsical concept, but still - I've like a broader variety of what's being depicted in my art. Like maybe a nice pond where cute frogs lay their eggs...
Agreed. It could be a card on Theros (a tide pool), Lorwyn (one of the many small bodies of water there), Zendikar (the expedition had amazing art), or even Ixalan (has that tropical climate)

Instead we've only had horror art and unnatural city/Ravnica art for it, which is perplexing and off theme for it IMO

Well, the name "Breeding Pool" does kind of have an artificial flavor to it. It heavily implies bioengineering.
Breeding Pool to me implies natural biology, where aquatic creatures are mating. A rich habitat of diverse marine organisms.

But at that point isn't it just a slough or pond or some other naturally-occurring waterbody? "Pool" implies something artificial.
    Tide pools are naturally occurring.

    Part 4 by Adana Washington

-Nice to see how far Liliana has come showing her protecting the students and seemly caring for their well being.

    - Me at Liliana seeing Lukka "Get her Onyx"

-Kinda sad that the elder dragons here all seem to have fire breath, the tarkir ones having different element breaths was fun.

-I do like the idea of Liliana being taken care of by a bounce spell, dose seem like a decent idea and something I hope to see with Niko more.
I've really been admiring Lilliana as a character, especially since the Gatewatch demon hunt/chain veil arc, WOTS and now the Gideon/redemption arc she is on. I really miss the Gatewatch era, but I do find myself invested in any lore she appears in for some reason.

The parallels of Josu and Gideon are amazing, and the idea she manipulated the Gatewatch into relieving her of the contract, only for her history to repeat itself, it's profound. Love her whole concept.

How dare Hallowed Fountain not be set on Theros. Or Breeding Pool.

Only the Expedition Breeding Pool has art that I actually like. Ever incarnation of that card has this artificial city or metal plane theme to it that never manages to feel UG to me. But who wants to bother with ZEN expeditions... reprint them with a regular frame then.

Love the Temple Garden and Watery Grave though. Too bad I can't use Black in my Sea Monster deck

Honestly, whether a story ends up meaning anything to the wider lore isn't all that important as long as it's is well-crafted and enjoyable.

Thats not the topic being talked on, doesn't matter how "well-craft" Kamigawa is, point is the story was set into motion by the action of old walkers and ended up being a semi-prequel to tie into the Tetsuo Umezawa and Bolas conflict. All of magics main story lines are tied up with planeswalk.
PW involvement is peripheral at best. If anything, that touch links Kamigawa to the greater lore, similar to the Great Aurora, without tainting it with the same tired, linear devices.

I'm tired of PWs being the catalysts and answers to all crisis on every plane. God, how I missed Kamigawa storyline.
    Agreed on all counts.

You mean the story that put into motion due to rifts caused by planeswalkers and the whole thing ended up not meaning anything to the wider magic lore beside being backstory/set up for Bolas?
Just goes to show you what a good author, flavor and a break from the same tired pattern can do. And to think, the setting for those books was among the worst rated in MTG, with poor sales!

Does anyone know why Lilliana was unable to obtain the spell, or what what occurred with Prof. Gladefell's child?

Anyhow, what's the deal with Professor Gladefell's child? What exactly went right, or better yet, wrong, with that? For the dragon not to instruct Lilliana regarding the spell? At that rate I'd recruit Jace to mind-read the dragon and learn the spell by force. Come on Onyx, you're Black and far more ambitious than this.

And so, considering the DND set has plane-locked Commander decks, it's been 2 years. Yeah, there's doubt on my end.

And as been stated these are likely gonna be the starter decks that replaced the pw starter decks, its a separate thing.
That's fine, but is there even a traditional Commander product this year?

Yeah, there was doubt. When was the last time we have a traditional Commander deck that wasn't tied down thematically to one plane?

so looks like old style (random planes) is still in the design of decks

Was there any doubt? They outright stated so the first time they did plane-specific commander decks - and by having both kinds of product they can bloat their output even more!
Yeah, there was doubt. When was the last time we have a traditional Commander deck that wasn't tied down thematically to one plane? I'm concerned they'll rely on Commander Legends-like products for plane diversity and plane-lock Commander decks.

Witherbloom is the one i wanted to see the most
let's hope that the cards are at least good and worth the wait
I saw my Sea Monster, so I have no vested interest. But my EDH group chat has been going off all day with my friends who are upset with this. It's almost 7 PM EST. This is unacceptable and taking advantage.

Putting myself in their position, if I were waiting like this for Spawning Kraken I'd be livid too.

If LRR gets any more spoilers in the future, I will explicitly boycott the product they're spoiling.

Let WOTC know. I'm putting it in the Strixhaven survey comments too.

I don't like Commander decks being limited to one plane. I miss the diversity of seeing other planes we haven't revisited in a while get thematic cards in Commander, especially past legends without cards, or new versions of them.
