Another point to make comparing Pioneer Devotion to Modern Devotion is the relevance of Nissa, Who Shakes the World. She's generally slow for modern, and we don't often have all that many forests down early. Pioneer gives her time to shine and the inclusion of Once Upon a Time as land/creature search means that we'll generally have more lands on the battlefield in Pioneer. I do agree that the prevalence of early burn for t1 mana dorks in Modern is what largely kept Leyline of Abundance from taking off. I tried several Leyline builds in modern and none of them were as resilient as the traditional manabase. If you haven't found a leyline by t3, all you've got is a big pile of dorks that can't win.

What do you mean Pioneer gives her time to shine? She's coming out T2, T3 at latest, and people are just dead almost immediately afterwards. The Sam Black article was very interesting, and I pointed it out to Alex from the Masters of Modern podcast, bc he has been wondering since Pioneer kicked off w/so many results for Mono-Green on whether a build similar to that could work in Modern. Sam's list looks solid, the question becomes which enablers and which topend are the way to build. We certainly have lots of options available.

What do you mean “moved to Legacy”? All the cards in Modern are already in Legacy. And yes, I’m not surprised shops are happy with Pioneer, I could imagine it could be good for business.

I CAN’T imagine Pioneer will be a better format than Modern though.

I guess what i mean is they will cut the modern term as a break point, so it will be Legacy, Pioneer, standard... No modern means all the cards in modern will shift to only being played in legacy (which is mostly none of them)

None of what you are saying makes any sense. Legacy is the harder format for people to buy into and find enough people to fire events (outside of MTGO). Modern is still everywhere and WotC was pretty clear in the announcement of Pioneer, it will continue to be. Expect to see less and less of Legacy, and more Modern and Pioneer. It doesn't help matters for them that Standard has become a complete crapfest, helping drive people to other formats. Legacy will not be one of those formats.

I like playing Infect. To play Legacy Infect optimally, I need a playset of Tropical Forests, and Force of Wills, not to mention if Oko and OUaT are in the current meta version of the deck. Trops in HP are ~215 on average on TCG right now, and a set of Force is around $250 on there as well. Sooo....over a grand on top of already owning the rest of the deck, just the Legacy specific cards. Decks with the current 4C Delver builds are even more, especially if you are lacking some of the top end Modern legal things like W6 and Oko.

    I hope your right

I really hope Pioneer does not take over Modern, I have no interest in another, more limited format.

Moving on. Oko is a great card. It’s possible he could fit in a Simic Devotion strat. I’ll have to revisit Simic Devotion. Again, the only way I’d consider playing Goose is if I’m already playing Oko, and even then, I’m not convinced it’s worth replaced BoP for it, despite W&S being in the format.

I fear that modern is going to be axed with all the cards going to be moved to legacy... Pioneer seems to be the place many fo the shops in my area want to go.

I'm just glad that i can still play mono green devoition in Pioneer.

I know your playing simic, so that makes choosing new cards hard, but alot of the games you lost even with a wormcoil, might have been won with Ruric Thar, the Unbowed You lost to jund who killed 2 wormcoils and you killed 3 Lili's... Either one of those wormcoils spells would have cost them 6 life to kill...12 if you would have casted it twice

Ah yes that's definitely right. There are multiple match-ups where Ruric Thar shines; Phoenix comes to my mind. And I always feel that I'm missing some good cards by playing Simic and not Gruul. But Simic are my natural colors and I'm willing to try them. Maybe I will eventually switch to Temur if I feel that I've some blatant weaknesses. Ruric is a card that I appreciate and he has a special place in my heart for his ability to punish combo decks.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. I won game 2, even if my opponent killed 2 Wurmcoils. I lost game 1 and 3 because my opponent had a few threats (ahem, Tarmogoyf) and all the appropriate answers to clear my board and kill me before I could land an unanswered threat, such as a Wurmcoil or a Hornet Queen. The deck I play struggles with aggro-control/disruption strategies. In those kinds of games, where I'm at a disadvantage, the lifegain is more important than doing some damage to my opponent. Eventually, if the game drags on, I will just win and that is what happened in game 2. So I believe Wurmcoil is a correct choice as a 6-mana curve filler.

I should precise that Wurmcoil is a powerhouse against Jund. It is true that Ruric is more agressive (a fat trampler) and that my opponent would've lost a lot of life by trying to remove it. However, the games were all about grinding your opponent. Some life loss could've helped me to apply more pressure on my opponent, but I was nowhere near a kill most of the time. We each tried to kill our opponent's planeswalker as soon as possible, and we mostly ignored our opponent's life total. The main advantage of Wurmcoil in this type of games is its resilience. The two wumrcoil spawns need to be removed as well. And for many opponents, Jund included, this can be excessively costly and time consuming. Deathtouch is also excessively relevant. In game 2, my opponent had an 8/8 Scavenging Ooze (that I forgot to mention) and Wurmcoil helped me deal with it nicely.

The main reason why I prefer Wurmcoil in the main right now is because it's excellent against a large part of the field; Jund, Death's Shadow, Dredge, Burn, etc. And because my deck is slower than Gruul versions.

Thank you for the comment @natesroom I'm always looking for sweet techs!
Wormcoil definitely makes games grindy and a good 6CMC filler.

yeah but it is a 1/1 which dies to almost anything...the reason ii suggested it is its a total power of 5/5 as a 3/2 and a 2/3 vs a 3/3 and a 1/1 (with first strike)

The new card from theros alirios, Enraptured it s 3cmc 2/3 and makes a 3/2 Reflection when it etbs... thats pretty good especially with charming prince or soulherder builds.

I think it might be a good time to explore some color splashes to improve the deck now that we can easily do so with Arcum's Astrolabe and Prismatic Vista.

One idea was Black to better fight spell-based combo/control decks and another can be White which offers exile based removal, enchantment removal and lifegain against Burn and also some decent win-cons.

Here is my take on this:

The deck is focused on maximizing the usefulness of small Chandra as our value engine to "flashback" removal/burn spells and help tick up the PW's and crew Heart.

I think you could just go Red only... small chandra means Chandra, TOD ults the turn after she comes in same as Koth. that's actually pretty awesome and you can use small Chandra's Loyalty to crew heart, which has good evasion - dies to path and Push, but so does tarmogoyf

    Hey!

Super stoked about charming prince now I won’t want to scoop to jund turn 2 when they wrenn minus my lone missionary XD

Some things I wanted to point out/ask:

I’ve been playing with a 1 of giver in the side, but I’m indifferent about it. It’s been super good in some matchups, but a lot of those matchups I also just want a kami, so I’m not sure what I think about it. Prob just gonna take it out all together since idk what I’d cut to where I could have both in my main.

Also I agree with the wrath trimmings I could see like 2 wrath(or 1 wrath/verdict) with 2 winds of abandon, cause that card has been super good for me.

Also I know marinjuk has a lot of success with brought back but has anyone else tested with it? From his experiences it seems really strong but I just want more of a sample size before I’m convinced and start investing in fetches for the package.

For those of you that have tested with the card, does it have a place in uw? I get the cuts are probably harder in this deck but it seems like it would be even better in a deck like this given ur non creature permanents

Finally, (and sorry I know lot of questions) can someone explain the justification behind champion of wits? Gonna be honest this card just seems like hot garbage. Maybe I’m undervaluing the eternalize effect but it just seems way too low of a power level for modern playability to me

    Thx for reading

Ive been playing feather for over 5 weeks now going 3-1 and 4-0 most of the time.

What i have found out is adanto vanguard is the worst card. He probably used to be good but there is so much burn going around (could be my meta) but even overall burn is in a lot of decks. So for the most part i'm playing a 1/1 for 2 that they shock or fanatical firebrand and i can pay 4 but usually i'm already at 12-16 life. I'm gonna try this week with swiftblade vindicator in its place. same 2 cmc and bigger upside. I'm also gonna slot 2 Tajic
