I scooped from a large event once because of body odor. It can be really bad. I hate the WOTC and the DCI refuse to tackle this problem. It's pretty easy to bring it up at the player's meeting. If you haven't showered and you smell very bad you WILL get a game loss. Guess what, people will start arriving cleaner...

But again, what constitutes "smells bad"? Do we have a smelling jury that decides how bad you can smell before you are disqualified? What if I'm facing a sweaty guy in the finals and I decide to call a judge to sniff him and DQ him because that's an easy win for me? What if I'm the sweaty guy and I'm having the tournament of my life? I make it to the finals and after 6 hours of Magic in a room filled with people, I smell pretty bad. My opponent in the finals decides to abuse that and get my disqualified. Suddenly I get no prices despite playing really well and getting to the finals.

It's not that difficult. If the BO is so strong that it's uncomfortable to smell then the player needs to take better care of himself.

Or, excluding "scenarios", how do you propose the logistics of this will actually work? Do the people in registration smell you when you register? Is there a dedicated sniffer that decides who smells too bad and who smells OK? What if you smell good (with deodorant and everything) when you arrive, but a few hours later you smell of sweat because it got hot inside the tournament area?

I don't know, it feels like people haven't actually thought all of this through.

You haven't lived until you've seen a Draw-Go mirror circa 1997. Play lands, Thawing Glaciers to fetch more lands, then a massive counter battle over the one win con in your deck (pick your poison...Waterspout Djinn, Morphling, Rainbow Efreet, or Steel Golem). The another counter war to protect the win condition from a Disk or a Capsize. It was GLORIOUS!

In the same idea, you haven't lived until you saw the glorious trio that was Stasis, Kismet and Chronatog pieced together.

It was slow, slow, slow and oh so painful for your opponent when the combo dropped on him.

Force of Will were mandatory to make this work, but it was worth it.

Oh I do remember, but I think Chronatog came in later builds. The original Finnish builds (and the one Matt Place took to US Nats top 8) just ran Howling Mines as the win con. THOSE were the days!

Excuse me, I have to go chase some kids off my lawn with my cane

I feel yah, those were the fun days.

With duals ar 15$ a pop a the ability to scare your opponent with a well timed Kjeldoran Outpost. Smile

Back in my day we grinded you out with Kjeldoran Outpost and we liked it!

I have two well played Candelabras that I picked up 4/12 years ago for about $15 each on ebay for nostalgia value and it looks like they have picked up a little value. What's the long term prognostication on these bad boys? How much higher could they go?

They jumped up last year or two years ago and have been more or less hovering. A couple of fringe decks use them but it's not a Legacy staple by any means right now.

I would hold, they are on the DNR list and all it takes is for Turbo Eldrazi or High Tide have a fun run and the card will go up.

Thanks for the quick replies! I couldn't believe how much they went up. I was going to buy a playset back in the day but since I just played casual at the time I didn't want to spend 55-60 for them = ( At least I bought the two.

If this isn't the right place I'm sorry. I'm looking for a recommendation on paints for someone new to altering. I was using some cheap stuff and it didn't seem to do the trick. Also has anyone else had problems with getting the first layer to stay consistent on the card, I don't feel like the paint sticks to magic cards very well.

I think it really depends on the message said apparrel is conveying. Blatantly antagonistic sayings like "God hates ****" or "**** Jesus" would generally be frowned upon, and you can be asked to leave/change by the HJ or TO if it is objectionable enough. Context is very important with this kind of question, as ot's very easy to mislead and fish for the answer you want.

Good point, let's focus and dial-it in a bit. To do so I'll give a few examples:

    "Jesus loves you"
    "Jesus is Lord"
    "Allah is King"
    "God is alive"

Would those sorts of things be objectionable?

Typically those pass the eye test. If there were multiple people complaining the judge might think about asking him to cover it up just to keep things moving along better.

Has an overloaded Counterflux ever done anything in a serious tournament game?

I've never seen it happen and I'm curious, not just a fun game, a serious tournament game.

I would buy as many cheap lots as you can. You can also make a fun cube with the extra cards!

Participating in a North American Grand Prix can be really bad. I've had to sit down between too (festively plump) individuals who took up so much room that their fat was "resting" on my legs (gross). I have nothing against people who are over weight, I'm just wondering if they consider how they make people feel when they can't fit into the seat without crushing other people.

At Gp Oakland the guy to my left in round three smelled like a tackle-box that fell into the outhouse. I'm not exaggerating. I was feeling really noxious and started getting a headache. I asked a judge about it and he didn't want to get involved.

Is there a chance we can appeal to wizards to enforce some kind of cleanliness rules? I spend a lot of time and money planning to play and travel to these events and I have to have a bad experience because they don't want to enforce common cleanliness at their events.

I've been holding a NM Fulminator Mage for years. Bought it for $15 back in it's standard days.

What might I look at as a price for that critter at the moment?

Such sloppy play against Van Meter in the first round. No clue why Chris let him take those super long turns. The guy missed a ton of triggers, and several attacks with mutavault (ie extra cards) plus wasting his Domestication. I hate getting a draw or losing to people that are playing so much worse than me...

Hello everyone! With Esper no longer being the dominant UW/x control deck, we're changing the name of this forum and moving all UW variants in. This means that Azorius, Esper, Bant, and UWR can all be discussed here rather than in the Established forum. If it runs Sphinx's Revelation, this is probably the place for it!
All of the decks seem to be running White, Black and Blue lands, White, Black and Blue spells...last time I checked...that was Esper.

I've been keeping tabs lately on my W/L ratio, amongst other stats (such as dice rolls to see who goes first, outs drawn by opponents, etc).

I'm on a statistically improbable streak of horrid luck. Been running around with the big 4 decks in standard. 100 games each.

    Couple of tidbits...

I've won 17% of the games I played. That's piloting one of the big 4, keep in mind.
I lose the roll to see who goes first 89% of the time.
Pick up 4-7 land initial hands, 69% of the time.
The MBD I played, drew a Thoughtseize in the inital hand, 9% of the time. Gary/Whip? Didn't happen. 100 games, not once did they pop up together.
With the U/W/x control deck, I played a D.Sphere 42% of the games I played. Couldn't draw them. Just weren't there.
R/G? Mystic showed up in my starting hand 25% of the time.
The most comedic parts were the outs. When my opponent needed an out to win the game? They got it 51% of the time.

I'm of the firm belief I've a bad luck Aura. It's prolific. Never seen anything like it.

Ever have a bad run? It's hilarious to watch.

Some of those stats I would consider good luck compared to mine. I run a 27 land Esper deck and would love an opening hand of 4 land and 5 land is nice as well! I probably have 30% of my opening hands mulligan for 0,1 or 2 land and another 10% for color screw. Mulligans 40% of your opening hands are pretty miserable.

Perhaps I'm not remembering correctly but I have been watch the draft vids and I don't remember sudden storm being pick up much. Maybe I need to check again. I do remember that Huey's response to it clearly though since I just watched that last night.

@Edit: Ok looked it up. There are only two drafts on their channel. The second didn't have a chance to get Sudden Storm so that one doesn't matter. In the first (which was a bit painful to listen to/watch when he doesn't pick something within the time limit and is given Satyr Wayfinder... Ouch) he gets one on the wheel and says "You want at least one Sudden Storm in your U/X kinda tempo decks."

Domaderosa made some comment like "I'm always wanting to draw sudden storm [the card is great]"
