Seems like the single best spell to play with it is the one with grave storm. You can sac whatever... fetchlands, the little 1/1 guy that sacs to make a mana of any color, any stars or spheres to grave storm them. Pull out win cons and threats while making trickster huge.
Bitter ordeal is the card you are thinking and I might have to try it out, but that seems to shift the deck to grixis. I am not sure it I should go all in the gravestorm though, it seem really helpful though.
You could try to play political hugs, like Phelddagrif, because then you can turn 2 tempting wurm. Just be supportive and watch them kill each other. It can speed up games, if you play it right and that is you are wanting to play hugs.
But I would have to agree, this group does not seem to be for you. I have not had issues with playgroups for banning of cards, since the playgroups I were in, just followed the normal banning for EDH. Plus, if this stresses you out a little bit, I would recommend to not be in the playgroup.
Hello everyone! This is my first thread for attempting to make a modern deck. The deck idea I am building around is Cosi's Trickster. So far the colors that I'm looking at are Temur or Grixis. I am slightly leaning towards Temur colors though.
I know that Cosi's Trickster is a bid of an odd build around, but I am wanting to try to do it though. Here is the list, it is mostly going to be a shell, since I am bouncing back and forward with cards pretty well, but I will further add and explains cards. Also I did see a thread about this, but I am going to a bit more in-depth with my reasoning to build around it.
These two are the main part of the deck, but my main issues are going to be color of the deck, lands, and other supporting cards. Here are the cards that I think would help the deck get started(I will also explain or at least give a reasoning for the cards). To note, these are the card that I could think of and find relating to or supporting. I would appreciate the assistance.
Boggart Forager: the obvious point of adding him, is his shuffling effect, to pump of Cosi's Trickster and he is a pretty cheap body. His down side is that he is a 1/1 and need R to activate his ability.
Birds of paradise: Nice mana dork to accelerate or stabilize mana. Color wise, I think this would be helpful, but I am not entirely sure if I need to add this card.
Snapcaster mage: I think, this card is pretty self explanatory, but I am still building the deck and not sure if I need to added it. I probably test this card out when I get a chance.
Lantern of Insight: This card is one of the pseudo-pump spells, but more importantly it helps me with information, with draws and possible what deck they are playing. One of the major downside, to me adding this card, is that I might not be using it properly and it also gives info about me. But it is a must added to this deck(my opinion).
Psychogenic Probe: this continues on the theme of shuffling effects, this assist in further dealing damage to opponent when shuffling. This can combo off with lantern for a "free" 2 damage. I think this would help with dealing more damage. I am a bit 50/50 on the card though, because it also hurts me.
Temur Battle rage: Is to support in dealing damage to the opponent. So, I personally do not see a downside, beside not having a creature on the field.
Memory's Journey: Another card dealing with shuffling effect, to note, you can choose 0 and have the player shuffle their deck. It also has flashback cmc for G though. This card further pumps the trickster. I was also think that this could assist in control with lantern.
Mutagenic Growth: This is to pump up a creature... Obviously. But Should I put it in?
Surgical extraction: This pumps of the trickster, gives information and "removes" cards from the game(only GY though). I think, this card is a must add for me.
Hardened scales: I am 50/50 on this, not sure if it will actually help me or slow me down. would have to test this out.
Draw effects: The card I was think that could help, is Burning Inquiry, Chart a Course, Tormenting voice, Faithless looting. I think those are some of the best draw cards for it. Bitter Ordeal: Being able to pump Cosi's trickster multiple times is nice, but not sure about going full support into the gravestorm mechanic.
Need to figure out first, if I am all into Temur or Grixis first.
If there are other card that anyone can think of, as either a supporting card or has something to do with shuffling, I would appreciate it. I will also be updating the decklist slowly over time and adding in-depth how to run the deck, once I get a handle on it. I just wanted to post this and see how everyone thinks of this deck attempt.
As far as the aggro version, it's actually WEAKER than the defensive version right now!
Legend's allure is actually a very powerful card because it can permanently steal a creature... usually other people have little 2 drops that are very powerful but low stats so it's a free steal! The other steal cards require at least an idol or a trader..
However I think you're right about having too many creature stealing abilities, sometimes they avoid playing creatures so I can't steal them and I end up taking damage from my own idol
Perhaps a few donates could help... hmm
The defensive deck is actually pretty good at holding off hordes of monsters, even 1v2 loool it's just so hard for people to get past my walls and eventually they just succumb slowly to a donated ooze loool pretty painful to watch..
Well defense deck has more answers to things and can set up a defensive presences with pillow-fort effects. With the aggro it seems that you opponents notices a weakness in that variant of your deck. Might have to change the angle, by taking out jinxed idol, but the idol helps with damage and act as removal when they have creatures. Maybe splash Zedruu in the aggro an see how that helps. Just looking at the aggro list, it seems that it needs another source of damage besides the jinxed idol that is pretty constant or something to put pressure on the opponent.
I had 4 jinxed idols but it seemed like that was too many as I can't really handle more than 1 on the field
The jinxed choker is awesome but it leads to very fast endings lol and if I don't have bazaar trader then I'm screwed Bronze bombshell is a new addition I haven't tested yet but it seems solid, a good beater and quite a bit of damage
I had 2 unsummon and it helped to keep my bazaar trader alive but I want to include fog bank just because it's such a good blocker in this riskay deck..
With further testing i can see how many of each card i need, right now it's pretty much mostly 4 of each
This looking good, but how has Legacy's Allure been helping you? It looks a bit slow and it takes your "on curve" spot for Bazaar trader. Bronze bombshell is a nice addition and there is Rust Elemental, but it mucks up the plan with jinxed Idol. Kari Zev's expertise looks nice, but is 4 of helpful? Just wanting to know, since you have had issues with dead cards in hand and the same goes for wrangle. The jinxed choker seems to put you on the clock, in a not helpful way, especially when you do not have you bazaar trader. Have you thought of other ways to make it aggro-like? Without the use of jinxed idol.
Too bad Bazaar trader does not sell enchantments or I would recommend adding black and going demonic pact. You do not have to listen to me on this part, I am just rambling on like a old man with dementia.
So, the land matter deck did not have other commanders (besides Lord Windgrace) that have abilites relating to the theme, but so far the other 3 did.
Is WOTC saying that high mana cost is related to lands matter?
I am bit sad for the land matter deck, albeit the whole deck is not spoiled, it just feels disheartening not to see interactions with lands.
The text for the esper zombie commander a bit confusing with the " One or more" then stating "that many". I understand that I would be drawing one card, but seems to me it is implying that I could draw more? I am just going to safely state that is one card.
It's to make it digital friendly. So it's a single trigger that notes how many Zombies you attack with to determine how many cards you draw/discard. Instead of being one trigger for each zombie that does one draw/one discard, it's one trigger that'll draw you some amount then discard that amount.
Okay that is understandable.
I hope there are more miracle cards that are new or reprints and so far the spoilers for the top-deck-matters looking good.
I really like this card. Pretty art, identifiable character, and the effects are solid. The Enchantment deck is full of cards I'd want to build a deck around as well as toss into the same deck. I could play this out of the box as is so far and be thrilled with it.
I would have to agree with you, playing this out of the box and not tuned, I think the deck would run pretty well by itself. I am patiently waiting for the full list of this deck.

My weird Atraxa, Praetors' Voice enchantress deck looking like it might happen. So far the enchantment theme deck is looking good and I am looking forward in buying it.

4x Cosi's Trickster
4x Lantern of Insight

I like that you still kept the original idea of pillow-fort, but how has it been playing for this version?

One more legendary correct?
Okay that is understandable.

You are welcome!
If you want to keep pithing needle you can, but still, test the deck to make sure that you actually need to have it main board vs. side board.
I look forward to hearing/reading/seeing the results.
