Well, Beta Copy Artifact is 700$, the Revised version costs less than 30$.

.. so can you play him in a mono white commander deck, and just use the white ability ?

As the commander yes, but not in the deck as its color identity is WUBRG and not white.

Emory is a 99 card to me. I want to play artifact decks that allow me to run red (and white would also be nice)

Of course urza, Karn and arcum breaks that thought as they are good without other colors.

I don't know, there is something to be said about the fact that she provides recursion for combo pieces and that she can in a way bypass commander tax.

Emry, Lurker of the Loch just got spoiled:

Emry, Lurker of the Loch 2U
    Legendary Creature - Merfolk Wizard

This spell casts 1 less to cast for each artifact you control.

When Emry, Lurker of the Loch enters the battlefield, put the top four cards of your library into your graveyard.

T: Choose target artifact card in your graveyard. You may cast that card this turn.

This looks really strong to me and could make for a really nice mono-U artifact commander alongside Urza, Arcum and Muzzio, while also perfectly useful in the 99 of any artifact deck.

Which means it's probably because "Whenever another creature card..." is technically incorrect since permanents are creatures while in play/exile but creature cards in every other zone. Think dumb, really dumb.

(Since the distinction CAUSES far more confusion to people than glossing over it ever would, you might think they just introduce a fudge rule that "creature" = creature except in cases where another zone is referenced and then it equals "creature cards")

A creature card can be put into a graveyard from anywhere, it's not the reason it was worded like that.

This wording of the card allows the ability to trigger when:
    - Any other creature dies (it doesn't matter who its controller is and if it's a token or a nontoken)
    - A creature card is put into any graveyard from anywhere ("other than the battlefield" is redundant since it is already taken into account in the first case)
    - A creature card leaves your graveyard (be it reanimation, delve, reshuffle or anything else)

I think they wanted to push the power level of this card and make sure it triggers a bunch of time but it is quite text-heavy. I would probably have preferred something like "Whenever a creature card is put into a graveyard from anywhere, or whenever a creature card leaves a graveyard"

Gameplay wise, it's best to treat it like kicker. Cast the spell as a "normal" creature early, and use the alternate mode if you have the mana when drawn late (or vice-versa, depending on the costs). Holding the card in hand longer to get the maximum effect was a common mistake made with kicker, and it's a mistake here as well.

Note that it doesn't seem to be restricted to the same turn. You can play Alter Fate first, and then next turn cast Order of Midnight. So it's a bit more versatile than kicker.

Syr Konrad, the Grim looks interesting. Could be a wincon in a Phenax, God of Deception deck or a really strong card in any artistocrat build.

I've always wondered about the basic land thing. I've never asked because I've never cared to build a colorless deck. But by all rights basic lands have no rules text. The big mana symbol on their text box is essentially flavor text which is why full art lands can exist without issue. The ability to tap for mana is all wrapped up in their sub type. For evidence of this see the Shock Lands such as Steam Vents whose only text is technically the shock ability, while the ability to add mana is parenthetical reminder text.

It is actually specified on the official website :

Lands whose type includes swamp, island, plains, forest and/or mountain (e.g.: basic lands, shocklands, dual lands, Shadowmoor special-basics, etc) also have the corresponding colour identity. As such, they may not appear in a deck unless the Commander is also of the appropriate identity.

If you're looking for specific cards to remove, Hymn to Tourach doesn't seem that useful.
Imp's Mischief can redirect removal and counter counterspells.
Undying with a sac outlet can protect your key creatures from targeted exile.
For spells, Boseiju, Who Shelters All might be useful.

I honestly do not even understand how the play line described gave him the six mana needed for his fourth turn play of Kethis, the Hidden Hand and Helm of Kaldra. He made each land drop and only ramped with Sac-Tribe Elder, which means he should have only had five mana on turn four, but this is a side observation.

The Helm is legendary, so Kethis reduces its cost by one.
Thanks, I had head errata which changed it to legendary creatures.

By the way, head errata is real and we do it all the time. For example, try reading Floral Spuzzem and find the error.

You need to wait long enough for Floral Spuzzem to make a decision?

In my opinion, minimizing the number of creatures in one deck will please Alta's effect the most.

I think two would be the magic number. A combination of Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker and Zealous Conscripts will win the game.

That's a bit too risky for my tastes, even for a combo deck. What happens if someone can stop your combo? Swords to Plowshares and Path to Exile cost only one mana, and even Force of Despair or Slaughter Pact can stop you. Then you're basically done for.

BTW: if you are not comfortable with kiki combo, please use Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre + Blightsteel Colossus package then.

With a sac outlet on the board, they are always reusable.

Yeah, this is not my playstyle at all since I really love randomness, but if I were to build that deck with very few creatures, it would probably be Eldrazis and/or Colossi Wink

Sadly, there is not any non-creature egg/changeling token generators in MTG. That makes her less attractive.
