Yesterdya I started toying wth doing miracles in modern (given that we get Riverwise Augur), so naturally I came to this thread. Does anyone have an idea of a way to put it in play at instant speed (besides vial, which seems terrible in this deck)? The instant speed in brainstorm was a huge part of its power (the 1cmc being the other, of course).
Also, I like the idea of restoration angel and augur, given that we already play snaps. I wonder what is the optimal combination of Resto-Snaps-Augur. I'd say 3 Augur, 3 snaps, 2 Angels?
I don't think instant speed Augur is happening, we just gotta be content with putting Entreat and Terminus' back and potentially shuffling them away if we need to.
With Rivals of Ixalan we get access to something pretty neat, and really unseen in Modern before... Brainstorm!Riverwise Augur!
It's a very expensive creature, but acts as a way to get Miracle cards out of your hand and back onto the top of your deck. Before this, only Survivor of the Unseen could pull off this effect and that card is really bad.
I know it's not a good option, but hey, it's an option and that's gotta count for something.
I think he'd deserve 2 - 3 spots in the deck.
Now if only we could get a Ponder unban, we'd have a tier 2 deck here.
those to cards make energy based decks easy to play. no other deck has it that easy to get 3 colors. remove these cards and energy decks aren't as potent as they are now. and gives other decks a better/fairer chance
I 100% agree with these suggestions. Repeatable Tendo Ice Bridge is just too strong when only a single strategy can really use it. Energy can run 3 - 4 colors easy while other decks struggle to run 2 colors. I don't know if WoTC would pull the trigger on both though, especially since Aether Hub was a promo, but at least Attune with Aether needs to go.
I am honestly not a believer - there are only so many bans you can have before you stop considering the format as non-rotating imo. Wizards would rather ban cards instead of exploring and pushing the boundaries of other card types like non-aura enchantments or whatever.
I hope we get some reeeeeeally interesting cards in Ixalan, seems like a good plane for UG cards - dinosaur/pirate/adventure theme. Now that I think about it, I can't believe that Simic Charm is probably the best UG card in Modern. That's so sad!

4x Jaces to 1x Pulse? Probably 2x Pulses if Jace were playable.
I'm certain 1 Jace deck would canobolize both midrange and control. Honestly, I think Sultai is just one 2 cmc removal away from being the best color combination in modern, there just needs to be a catch all to play with Goyfs and Snappies.
Sultai is a UG spell from being a powerful color combination. The truth is that Sultai is weak compared to Jund and Abzan because UG has nothing - everything GB is better in the Jund and Abzan shells than the Sultai shells. If they every print a powerful UG spell, like Shardless Agent, then you have a real reason to be Sultai in Modern.
Preordain is too strong currently with Grixis DS and Storm where they are. SFM is fine. Not sure about the other two.
What you say for preordain is probably right in that Wizards won't do it because of Storm mainly, but I don't think that the power level of the card changes depending on the decks that are actually playing the card.
No matter what combo or other decks we have in the format, Serum Visions is left behind as a one-mana cantrip nowadays. This is not to say it's a bad card, but it's mediocre or just good in a format we do have a lot of great consistency tools(for example Ancient Stirrings).
That said, I think Preordain would not be too strong in the current format, but just as strong as it needs to be.
(Still Wizards won't unban the card probably)
Let's see what happens when August rolls around. I don't have much faith in Wizards unbanning something. They're just so conservative it borders on pathetic.

Not sure I'd rate BBE higher on the power-level scale than SFM. Midrange Jund needs a good reason to be played now and I think that BBE is that reason if it were ever unbanned.
They won't ban Grapeshot. They have avoided banning any of the storm cards for years now, and I can't see that changing anytime soon. Instead they have always gone after rituals and cantrips. The most busted card left in storm IMO is Past in Flames, but storm is not oppressive right now anyways.
They also will not unban Preordain anytime soon. It is quite a bit better than Serum Visions and visions is still a perfectly fine magic card that finds its way into most decks featuring blue. If visions was truly not a good enough cantrip for modern, nobody would play it! It's that simple. The fact that it shows up quite frequently means it must be pretty damn good!
Serum is a fine card. I wouldn't call it great or anything - but Preordain is definitely Modern power-level. I think it should exist in this format.

(U): Draw a card, then put a card from your hand on top of your library.
I would totally play modern miracles if this existed.

You mean UR was the best blue shell?
I haven't really seen it in any decks. Have you?

Twin might be a riskier unban if you have Preordain + AV + Ceremonious Rejection, no?
