theres nothing missing that i could add i think..

i'd go with mormor vig or edric (though for some reason it feels like edric would be banned in 1v1), just 'cuz they are huge when they land, and they up your card advantage like nothing else...

i think generally, choose a general with cmc4 or less, unless it's maelstrom wanderer (purely because it's the awesome, and you're in green so you can ramp).

  • posted a message on New to EDH! I would really appreciate some tips on this deck!
i think im gonna echo what the others here have already kinda mentioned:

    1. i think you probably would want more lands (urborg, tomb of yawgmoth and cabal coffers is a thing)
    2. even just a tiny bit of ramp
    3. hatred (this wasn't mentioned, apparently)

i think what you've got is a really good starting point though. it reminds me a little bit of what i'd have done if i'd have tried to build an infect-proliferate edh deck. the difference i think here is that you actually have a good amount of spot-removal, something i dont see many new EDH players (or possibly even just magic players as a whole) use!

    ps - welcome to EDH/commander!

i find it (just slightly) weird that i can't run this in a lovisa coldeyes deck, even though she's the one rambling on about justice and fire in the flavour text.

actually, i cant believe i've missed this for so long.. i just got stuff to make a werewolf deck, and man, this is so much cooler than what i had in mind! hope you dont mind if i just use it.

how does it run though? have u tested it? does it feel kinda scary when night falls? can't wait to try sleeving it up!

i would actually start with isperia supreme judge or the other one, since they haven't been mentioned, are dirt cheap, and don't have any hate attributed to their respective strategies at all (at least in my meta). you would be happy to know that with isperia the inscrutable, i had a bird tribal-tempo that is very consistent, even though it has a very low deck building cost ($ wise) and deals surprisingly well against other decks. its quite toolboxy and everything in the deck as in-built evasion in the form of fliers.

but yea i'd also echo donufan's advice to stick to 2 or mono-colour builds, just to save on the manabase.

  • posted a message on [[MCD]] Anthems
i was going to rant on about how tolsimir wolfblood is definitely a thing that helps out the other anthems in my tolsimir wolfblood deck, but it seems like you guys've covered it.

on a slight tangent though, do u guys have opinions on the black anthems (bad moon, mikaeus the unhallowed et al)? i run a few of them in my zombie horde, and at least bad moon is quite underwhelming. mikaeus on the other hand is quite brutal if left unchecked (the undying being the more brutal part though).

  • posted a message on [[SCD]] Pyromancer Ascencion
i think just having a pyromancer ascension in play would automatically make the other players pause and give you more space than you normally would, just to see what you'd do. At least im pretty sure thats what i'd do. ive always wanted to see someone give janky cards like this a go (janky in terms of janky in EDH, not modern).

    Quote from Taleran
    Yeah that is the point.

If people have mana they have ways to interact, if you remove that interaction you win the game. Counterspells go for the card MLD goes for the fuel for that card. It is no different both of the options win the game. If I have a Krenko who will be able to make enough goblins a turn from now and win the game then I am going to use the 7 mana to deny everyone else the resources to stop me from doing that. You also don't need fetches or top or library to make better use of MLD, those 3 types of cards tend to make EVERY commander deck better and I would use them if I had them.

MLD is just a more brutal form of control, from two colors who are generally more excessive and blunt than the rest. These spells used correctly end the game just as fast as any other method that ends the game it just does it slightly different.

Colors without countermagic tend to find their own methods to get around it or break right through it.

I suppose that kinda sums it up, eh?

when MLD is timed right, it is a wincon in that it stops other players from doing anything about it.. but when played badly it just grinds everything to a halt (in which case you'd probably get the win just 'cuz the others would scoop).

The thing is at least for me, i try to have all my decks lendable to other players who haven't tried EDH before. And i dont want to see a badly timed armageddon or having to wait for a half hour for them to go through the deck to tutor for something.

yea i think the hug word is kinda misleading at times.. it should be a political deck.

i dont think ive ever lost when playing a pheldagriff political deck actually. one can become the biggest threat to the table without ever having the most threatening board state.

  • posted a message on [[Official]] General Discussion of the Official Multiplayer Banlist
SP was a good ban i think, though i'm a tad sad to see it go. when it was in play, everyone's eyes immediately turns to copying it, blinking it and what have you, whereas the DEN can only be abused/used if that player happens to also have U.

unban Panoptic Mirror! sure it can be abusable, but its not an insta-win.. it still requires at least a couple of pieces. I imagine it was banned mostly to stop people from imprinting a time stretch.

it sounds like some people out there have such a fervent hate for U that im surprised that they havent discussed banning island!

honestly, if i get sick and tired of seeing the same tired combo going off, i'd probably just scoop...

...and the next time i play a game with the same player, id ask if hes still sporting the same combo. if he is, then im gonna pass on the game, but good luck to him. if he isn't, then shuffle 'em up!

edit: possibly can be combated with underworld dreams too

  • posted a message on [[SCD]] Best looking Counterspell
if best look includes the entirety of the card, i.e. the flavour text, then NFM one, definitely...

i mean "it was probably a lousy spell in the first place"!

not sure if the newer players met ertai, but that guy rocks

  • posted a message on Players that don't understand the point of the format.
i think there ARE players who dont understand the format... ive played with people who just summarised edh as legacy a turn or 2 slower... which some playgroups could be, but not mine. some playgroups just have really cutthroat MLD stax combo or whatever, but we like to do the janky synergies with a million pieces or aura-heavy spined wurm beatdown among other underpowered strategies. If i recall correctly, our decks generally have sport removal, and the occasional land-sniping and board wipes. excessive counterspelling isnt frowned upon, but it gets tiring for everyone... and besides, how many counterspells can you pack in a deck to consistently deal with a whole table? i think most of the time, if someone would choose to excessively counter stuff, the hatervision starts getting warmed up.

i think the question should be refined to 'players that don't understand the playgroup' or something along those lines.

If i were you though, i'd do as many here have already suggested and talk it through. edh should be a social format, so i really couldn't emphasise that enough.

if for example i had a deck filled to the brim as a BRG targeted land destruction filled with avalanche riders, sinkhole and ice storm would it be a bit more accepted than just armageddon, cataclysm, et al?

i personally don't like MLD though just because its usually unnecessary. in a weird kinda way, id rather play against someone with a time walk isochron scepter lock.
