As far as the 4-cmc slot is concerned, I think this competes directly with Avalanche Riders. Purphoros is a lynchpin for red tokens, so I wouldn't cut that if you support that. I think both fugue and riders see play in the same decks: aggro and aggressive midrange decks. I can see myself possibly playing Fugue in a control deck as a pseudo-Confiscate. This also gives red more tools to "deal" with Titan sized creatures. There aren't a lot of effects that not only steal PWs, but any permanent. Also, more threaten effects to help feed my Greater Gargadon are always welcome.

Yeah, 3-drops are the new 4-drops, we have more than we even know what to do with.

I have a hard time believing this card isn't a shoe in. He provides great reach and is sick when curving out. I'm just imagining him on 3 and then hero of oxid ridge or hellrider on turn 4 lol.

Competition, Kolaghan's Command / Daretti 2.0 are much more flexible than this card.

You guys are probably right, this is a lot better than Expanse / Wilds in a lot of scenarios. Still, I don't feel comfortable saying it's outright better, not yet at least.

They sure did hold off the best cube cards until the last day...

    Definite inclusions
    Frenzied Fugue
    Ash Barren

    Testing
    Magus of the Will
    Crystalline Crawler

Frenzied Fugue is really dumb, my jaw is still on the floor from seeing that. Ash Barren is extremely versatile and a great boon for those that support colorless.

I'm going to test Magus of the Will extensively. As it stands now, it's still a solid inclusion I my cube by itself since I'm not that attached to some of my looser black cards like Ob Nixilis / Gearhulk. I won't be surprised if he lasts a whole year in my cube, or at least until we get some more solid black cards.

I don't think it's better than Expanse / Wilds since they have no cost to activate and work much better with Crucible / Loam. This card can be a huge hinderence if this is your only land in your opening hand.

Until end of turn. Not as good? I like how you can switch to better targets, but steeling for one turn might not be as good.

You can't switch targets, it's "ETB / every upkeep, I tap / gain control of X until end of turn, it gains haste."

All I see is red Control Magic... And I like what I'm seeing here!

This is red CONFISCATE. At 4 mana splashable cost.

Red 4 is getting awfully crowded, I think Avalanche Rider just rode his last Avalanche for me Frown

Is it just me or is this a better Zealous Conscripts?

Very flexible option, the basic land cycling is great here and this can give Ojutai a run for its money.

One mana basic land cycling seem strong, especially if you support colorless. I like that this works well with crucible / loam, I think I'm going to give this card a spin.

Probably one of the better double strike enablers. Also has political implications in multiplayer since it works on every combat. Thoughts?

Being a 3/3 vanilla until you have at least 5-6 mana available, invest 3 mana more and have a loaded graveyard, isn't great. Nessian Courser is not a playable card. It seems like a narrow card that won't be worth it since it's just a 3/3 a lot of the time.

It also fails the terminate test when it matters the most. The Magus will most likely be best in burn or storm. In both of these matchups your opponent is likely to have removal in their hand, since your deck is creature-light. If this card gets shut down a large amount of the time the ability would shine, then it's just not worth it.

As a disclaimer, I have never played with Yawgmoth's Will, so I'm just guessing.

It's not uncommon to cast Yawgmoth's Will when you're only 3-4 mana since Will is a scaleable effect that always has the same upfront costs. I've often done this when I needed to replay a fetchland and / or cast a cheap removal spell. This desperation move is less attractive on Magus since you're paying double the mana, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do, especially when you need that 4th land drop.

I'm okay with my opponent nuking my Magus if it means they don't have an answer for my turn 4 Hellrider, which this card really goes well with.

Magus of the Cataclysm is probably the best bet, but ugh, what a terrible name.

    That's the best name!

Yawgmoth's Will loses a LOT of its potency when the opponent knows it's coming. Playing around spent removal and discard spells isn't something the opponent usually prepares for, but it's worth mentioning that this effect in particular loses a ton of value when it's telegraphed.

Agreed, but I think it's a fair tradeoff for being able to get its hands dirty as a creature. I found Yawgmoth's Will to be most useful in a heavy burn deck since burn always has a target regardless of game state. Magus being a creature will be able to shine since he can go for the dome himself before going off with Will.

I like how I can topdeck him after a sweeper, use it to crew Fleetwheel Cruiser / Smuggler's Copter to swing right away, untap next turn and activate Will to replay all my burn spells for lethal.

Anyways, I feel like Magus of the (Insert Sorcery Here) will eventually be a complete cycle. So far we have Wheel / Will. It'd be safe to say that every Magus will represent an iconic 3-cmc sorcery, but that would be hard to come by in white / green. Blue has Tinker / Timetwister / Show and Tell. Tinker is probably too broken, Timetwister is too similar to Wheel of Fortune, and Magus of the Show and Tell would just sound weird.

    Right now my predictions are

    WHITE:

    - Magus of the Cataclysm: This has a nice ring to it, but I can't imagine they'd print it nuking lands (which would also disqualify Magus of the Armageddon / Catastrophe). This is also very similar to Cataclysmic Gearhulk...

    - Magus of the Balance:Probably too OP.

    - Magus of the Wrath: Wrath of God is probably White's most iconic sorcery and Magus of the Wrath is a fairly cool name that makes sense....

    BLUE:

    - Magus of the Spiral: Time Spiral is on the reserved list so this would be an interesting way to pay homage to it. Magus of the Jar / Magus of the Wheel already existing is a knock against it, but it's still a possibility.

    GREEN:

Magus of the Hurricane: Green really doesn't have a lot of sorceries and Magus of the Hurricane sounds pretty badass.

Magus of the Order: Natural Order is probably green's most iconic sorcery, I'd imagine this would be worth a pretty penny if it ever saw print.

Nothing has really blown my frock up yet. When I was supporting Black aggro I probably would have smashed some Vials. I am actually pretty happy to have a break from including new cards, it feels like Shadows, Conspiracy 2 and Kaladesh all came out at the same time.

I hear you, I felt like it's been non-stop spoiler season since EMN, haha.
