That is a really interesting "bonus" on a spell. Potentially broken in older constructed formats (hello, suspend cards), still reasonable in cube. Effectively, this card is a global -3/-3 for 1-2 mana (that you can't cast until you reach 4 mana). Probably the fourth best black mass removal.
Funny that we just talked about Consuming Vapors in the random card thread. That one will mostly likely be my cut for this card.
That was my thoughts exactly yesterday. I honestly haven't paid too much attention cube / MTG matters for the past few weeks (too much competitive Pokémon battling). Normally I know the exact contents of my cube, but yesterday I couldn't recall if I cut Vapors recently. Logged into cubetutor for the first time in about two weeks and found Vapors still there, so that will definitely be my cut.
I still like Vapors, but I've been wanting to replace it for a while, was just waiting for the right card.
Not quite sold. Hitting x/4s is what turns sideboard cards like Slagstorm into maindeck ones like Languish. Getting initiative back is really nice, but against real threats this is going to frequently come up short.
I don't believe the Slagstorm comparison is very fair since they're two different colors. Red struggles with big butts, black does not.
What I like most about this card is the plethora of 3-cmc planeswalkers we have no. Clear the board, stabilize with Liliana / Grenzo / Dack / Jace? Okay....
It's real, this is part of the Game Day prize cards, they showed 3 cards and an Ajani playmat.
I definitely like this card, but not over Languish / Damnation. I like it more than Consuming Vapors though. I'll probably replace Magus of the Will with this.
Steve man: That's my point. If we're classifying Hierarch as green because it's playable there instead of Bant where it's ideal, Explosives should stay in colorless. For the same reason. If we move Explosives to 3+ colors because we want to change classifications to where cards are ideal, Hierarch should follow suit.
Shivan knight: I don't see how if Hierarch is green, Lotus is anything but colorless.
Ah, I see now. I thought you were making a declarative statement rather than a comparative one.
I completely disagree about wanting to classify Noble Hierarch as Bant since it's perfectly 100% functional in a mono green deck. In my eyes, you're optimizing Bant playing Noble Hierarch but it's not an optimization of Noble Hierarch. Noble Hierarch doesn't care if it's in a mono green / Selesnya / Simic / Bant deck, it's still getting maximum usage regardless.
Reflecting Pool doesn't really help with fixing, it only augments what you already have. It's really nice when you already have a City of Brass in play, but is dead in the water when you have that one land hand.
I like Gemstone Mine a lot in any aggro / combo deck and will squeze it into a slower midrange / control deck if I'm really desperate for fixing. The same thing can be generally said about Undiscovered Paradise too, but it's more aggro oriented and has nice synergy with Landfall / Land Tax.

Speaking of which, I totally submitted the "cascade from your hand" mechanic during the last Great Designer Search.
Christmas has come early! Thoughts?
