I wish we had more, and better, colorless sweepers. But that is the best we have got, it sees play and I don't think they will print anything better than Disk soon.
Powder Keg / Ratchet Bomb / Engineered Explosives are all still pretty good, their selective destruction is often an upside in many matchups. But yeah, other effects similar to Disk like Oblivion Stone and Perilous Vault are way too slow.
Boros Charm is great, 4 damage for 2 mana is big game and the indestructible mode can lead to huge blowouts, I can't imagine cutting it anytime soon.
How I rank the Boros cards:
- Ajani Vengeant
- Figure of Destiny
- Boros Charm
- Lightning Helix
- Boros Reckoner
- Nahiri, the Harbinger
I rank Lightning Helix lower than Boros Charm mainly because there are so many Incinerate knock-offs it's not even funny.
I don't digest a lot of Magic content these days. I was a huge fan of the early days of Evan Erwin's The Magic Show. I always say that the only article you need to read is Who's the Beatdown by Mike Flores. Today I mainly just listen to podcasts. I love So Many Insane Plays by Kevin Cron and Stephen Menendian. I used to dabble in Vintage but never took it too seriously, but I always LOVED reading about it. I never actually watch Magic coverage / competitive streams, but I should start making an exception for the Vintage Super League... The other two podcasts I subscribe to are Limited Resources by Marshall Sutcliffe and LSV and The Third Power by our very own Usman Jamil and Avitollo!
The one card I can never spell right...
- Do you run Disk? Why or why not?
- Which Disk art do you favor, old or new?
- How do you prefer your own cube when it comes to different options for the same card? Old card frame or new card frames overall? Foils vs non-foils? Promos? Alters? Foreign languages? Full-art basics?
I think her 0 ability is pretty flawed compared to other blink effects. It slowly kills you blinking your creatures means you're down a blocker next combat, which leaves both you and Kaya open.
I used to run Cyclonic Rict but took it out as my cube got more faster / refined. I still really like the card and side it into the cube when we play 2HG over Upheaval (which I ban in multiplayer).
I tend to play black, gravitating towards Rakdos / Golgari based decks, they's just too many black cards that I love to P1P1 and go deep in.
I started playing when Onslaught came out.
- Do you run Boros Charm? Why or why not?
- How do you rank the top Boros cards?
- What's your favorite MTG series of articles / podcasts / videos / streams / etc?
Not bad. I like that all her abilities are live right off the bat. Her -2 is actually pretty powerful for a 4-mana PW. She's very solid in control decks but nowhere near versatile as Sorin, Lord of Innistrad. I like her more than Sorin, Solemn Visitor and would probably rank her in the top 5 Orzhov.
I personally don't run Hoof due to most of the reasons everyone else has stated: he's not as good early game as other fatties and he has to be put in the right deck to be most effective. I think I'd also throw in Great Oak Guardian and throw in Splinter Twin / Eldritch Evolution and support that more first.
I play EDH to be social. When I moved back to Chicago, an old childhood friend of mine told me that she and her husband got into magic and that they host EDH every Tuesday. I was on Magic hiatus for about a year at that time, but that's what got me back into playing paper magic regularly. I have two decks: one cutthroat Karador, Ghost Chieftain deck and a laidback Gisa, Ghoulcaller deck (which is going to converted into Gisa and Geralf soon).
I mostly play EDH, retail limited, and cube these days. My time is mainly split between EDH and retail limited. Although all my passion goes to cube, it can be difficult to get people to play. For years I was strictly a legacy player (more on that when we talk about certain other random cards) and I LOVED Extended when that was a thing (6th / Urza extended still one of my favorite formats of all time.) Was never a fan of Standard and Modern to me is just a waste of awesome potential.
Anyways, today's random card of the day is coincidentally another annoying EDH staple:
- Do you run Cyclonic Rift? Why or why not?
- What color combinations do you tend to play?
- What set came out when you first started playing Magic?
Somehow appears in every EDH game, controversial cube card.
- Do you run Craterhoof Behemoth in your cube? Why or why not?
- Who is your favorite EDH commander?
- Besides Cube, what are your other favorite formats?
Some Origins / Dragons of Tarkir things to note with standard rotation being around the corner.

I just noticed that Kytheon is up to $8, which is surprising considering I bought it for $4 earlier this year (and I thought I should've held out longer to get the price down). Not sure if it's the result of speculation on the novelty of flipwalkers or the fact that Kytheon is doing well in Standard (I don't follow Standard so I wouldn't know).
At 540 I support green aggro but do not currently run Geist because green is usually the tertiary color of an aggro deck, making that GG cost very prohibitive. We've also gotten great splashable cards recently like Sylvan Advocate and Duskwatch Recruiter, making it harder for Geist to crack the green 2 cmc section. My cube would probably have to be 720+ to run Geist.
Vat is super fun times and can be absolutely game-breaking in a stalemate. I run Vat at 540 and would probably run it at any size due to it being one of those rare cards that is as fun as it is powerful.
Vat is probably best in a midrange deck with lots of removal. I don't MD it in aggro or combo decks light on removal, but it's always a great SB option vs Recurring Nightmare.

That is the correct answer
Somehow appears in every EDH game, controversial cube card.
- Do you run Craterhoof Behemoth in your cube? Why or why not?
- Who is your favorite EDH commander?

Bored at home right now so I'm highjacking this thread for the day, just pressed the random cube button on Cubetutor.
- Do you run Waterfront Bouncer?

I'd be colorless artifact enchantment geist.
