I would to see a Jeskai commander with some plethora of Morphling, Aetherling, Brightling, and Torchling. I thing just straight attacking or spells matter have already been done. This would make a commander with flexibility and staying power
First I would like to say this is very nice of you.
I am interested in the Gideon and Eternal Witness.
That card I miss the most that’s been cut is Frenetic Efreet. The coin flipping and randomness made for great games and even greater stories. I’ve tried to integrate him back into the cube but he just gets tossed aside due to creature power creep. Even when I try to force him it’s a feels bad. Hopefully one day they will bring that mechanic back on a bigger body.
I'm just wondering if anyone else is worried about this huge influx of Planeswalkers. I am in the camp of limiting the number of Planeswalkers. I know many people disagree with me, which is fine. I am just wondering how cube managers without a limit on Planeswalkers are taking this set. Are there a lot of includes or are majority too weak to make the cut?
I see this as a strong contender. A previous poster put the math at 4RR being the big pay off amount. I can see that happening in cube. It gives the R/X decks another neat little tool. Of course, its main weakness is its dependability on the other cards around it. I think it is definitely worth testing especially paired with all the fast artifact mana.
I have a question regarding an interaction I ran into during a pauper cube draft. I had a Wild Leotau enchanted with Cage of Hands. Can they return the Cage of Hands to their hand if I decide to not pay the upkeep cost or can they only return it once the upkeep trigger goes on the stack?
I think this is the best form of the Fleshbag Marauder and Merciless Executioner. It is not dead against planeswalkers, works well against those super durdle control decks that use planeswalkers are their main form of victory. In a way this card is never really 'dead', well unless they have no creatures, planeswalkers, or cards in hand. In that case I'm sure you are already winning.
I was hoping a judge here could help me answer this question. Is it legal to mark the front of my sleeves? I was thinking that it could be considered a time saving tool. If I mark the top left of each of my Meddling Mages with different symbols, during the match it would be much easier to note/keep track of which one is naming which. Of course there is the write it down and rip it off a sheet method, but I was thinking it would be nicer/cleaner to just have the symbols written down on the side: + named Lightning Bolt, - named Collected Company, O named Arcbound Ravager. Would this be considered "notes before the match"?
I think it depends on the cube, I can agree that they are probably too slow for vintage cube. They might work in legacy cube and I can definitely see them working in a modern cube (if someone made that)
When I drafted Shards of Alara the archtypes were fairly broad.
Esper = artifacts
Jund = tokens into devour/attrition
Grixis = attrition
Naya = big creatures
Bant = exalted
I think when you make this you will find that one guild will only play well with two factions/shards while some factions/shards well benefit from any cards. An example would be Jeskai vs Jund, Jeskai works well with Izzet (spells + prowess) and Azorious (tempo and some spells), but not so well with Boros (more creatures mean fewer prowess triggers). Jund on the other hand can play from all three guilds, Rakdos, Golgari, and Gruul all have sizeable creatures and efficient removal spells. I am not saying it is impossible but you will really need to think about the archtypes that you want each faction/shard to have before selecting your cards. IMO adding slightly weaker cards that synergize for archtypes make for better game play than strong cards with no real connection.
I think this guy has to fight pretty hard for a spot in GW, but I think the versatility might be good enough to get there. I am just not sure whos place he will take.
Seems like possible replace for Priest of the Blood Rite, the two life loss per turn is replaced with Surveil 2. I think Surveil repeatedly will prove to be powerful. Being able to see two cards in every time while also filling the graveyard is a solid effect. The biggest drawback is you lose out on a little ETB abuse with Priest. I can see this card being worth a shot to test
