The great part about cube is you can make it anything you want. I know people have mentioned the common/uncommon cube. I've seen people make Modern cubes because they don't want to deal with the super expensive RL stuff. I personally built a Frontier cube because most of my collection was comprised of those cards. I actually made the cube because I wanted to find a use for my rare that didn't make EDH or constructed.
I think the flexibility/inevitability of this card is worth noting. Flamecaller has some really nice synergies but I don't think its a stretch to consider this one as well. Two removal effects WITH the plus effect putting it at 8 counters on the turn it comes out is nothing to scoff at. I think it is a different style of finisher.
This is one of the most durdly do nothing cards on the list. I heard Sheldon played one game where it was “too good”. What is the most broken thing you can do? You need to have any extra turn already on the stack and 10 mana to play this and imprint Time Warp for infinite turns. Right now there are many many faster and more consistent ways to win the game.
A mass LD spell on it is not really much worse than the first one casted imo. The first one that blows up all our lands and now this keeps us at 0. Usually the guy who casts it will already be ahead on board, will 1-4 lands help if you’re behind on board? In my experience it doesn’t.
What does everyone else think? TL;DR the card is too slow to be an instant win issue. Other than extra turns I can’t think of another spell that would be an issue
I don't understand why WOTC would need to do this. All the legacy players I know said it's not dying because of the reserve list. Legacy players get one tournament every year or two, that's an indicator of a supported format right? I'm all for work arounds on the reserve list because I want would like to play with cards I don't own if this actually helps legacy sounds like a plus.
I think your idea would requires lot of work on the WOTC side. The first is obviously revising the reserve list to account for this. After that they would need to set up this whole program and carefully monitor it. They would need a fairly large incentive to commit this many resources.
This card is backbreaking in limited. One creature with 4 power already reduces the cost to 5, which in my opinion is the max it should cost. 4 power is pretty easy to hit. This comes down on curve and is relevant late game. I like it
That is fair. Of course there are the few cornerstone cases of people just playing mass LD spells just to play them, but those are outliers. The biggest thing for me is the tuck rule only applies for answer cards, I don't see an issue with cards like that being better in this format. Either way I doubt they are going to change it back but it's an interesting discussion
We are sort of derailing the topic with the whole colorless mana rule fix.
Honesty I'm glad people are disgareeing with me. I like hearing the other side of the conversation. I agree that losing a commander is not fun but so is mass LD, stacks, and prison. While mass LD is symmetrical, at best everyone is set the same and at worst they bring it all back or make their lands indestructible. Lands are more important for playing the game baring very specific exceptions. For me the rational of "it's not fun" should mean a lot of other cards need to be on this list.
After hearing Rosewaters take on change to commander, am I the only one that wants the tuck rule back?
I don't like the argument that "because white and blue don't better it would be unfair". White and red are great at mass LD, I think losing all your lands makes it hard to play then losing your commander. I feel like the decks that are all in on their commander should have that sort of weakness. What do we think?
