why wouldn't Jace's ability say "target instant or sorcery card in your graveyard gains flashback until end of turn", much in the way narset grants rebound?

pretty underwhelmed by all of these :/

Difference is, if the spell gets Remanded or has buyback or anything that would make it go into any other zone than the graveyard, it won't get exiled. If it had flashback, it would.

I also doubt they wanted to use Flashback if it's not in the set.

I will say that I'm glad I care more about the story aspects of this set than the set.

    lol so:

    T2: play Jace
T3: Play Lilliana, activate Jace(1 card in yard)
T4: Play Gurmag Drowner, exploit himself(5 cards in yard), flip Lilli, activate and flip Jace.

Not the most Christmas-y of Magical Christmas lands. Don't know what sort of deck this could be built into but hey it's a thing.

Oh that Nissa is bad. Hoo boy is she bad. The Jace is... meh.

After further rereading Nissa is only bad because her flip condition is too much. It's a hell of a deck building cost.

I feel like the unconfirmed cards that were just in the free pack lists (but not spoiled as new cards alongside them) should be removed from the spoilers section, as often times they put cards in those that aren't part of the set, and it's confusing some people and making them upset at Origins, given how bad those cards usually are.

The M14 and M15 samples decks only contained cards from the set, and I do believe they would have mentioned it if some of the cards didn't appear in Magic Origins.

Sure, it's a lot of jank, but might as well get some of the dreg out of the way now rather then ending spoiler season on it.

No they are actually in the set. You will be able to play them in standard if you want. The thing is you wont find them in booster packs. Hence why they're numbered above the actual number of cards in the set (I.E. Aegis Angel is 273/272)

Perhaps the lich could place their soul inside a construct that could be on the planeswalker card, and his normal body is still on the original plane?

But if the soul dies the lich dies right? The whole point of this thought experiment is the idea of a lich wouldn't mind sacrificing his body because his soul is safe.

Perhaps but it's the spark that protects the body from the ravages of the Blind Eternities. If the body of the lich is even able to leave its plane without the spark dwelling within it would be obliterated. If the body is reborn at the phylactery then what was the point?

Problem with undeads is that to have a spark you must have a soul.

I wasn't aware that trauma was a quantifiable thing, that we could measure the degree to which one trauma is greater than another. Seems to me like a child feeling that she led to someone killing her parents and her killing her parents would generate similar feelings both of guilt for the deaths and anger at those that lead to the situation.

Both stories result in guilt. It was made very clear that she new that her and her parents having to be on the run was her fault. Her starting the fire or some jackass starting it because of her has the same result. There's still a young child who is very clearly Red at heart, there's still a force that disapproves of her abilities, there's still the death of family and a whole village of bystanders that is squarely on her head, there's still an execution. This child will still grow to be the Chandra we know. This child will still grow up to become Gideons adversary. She will still tell a heart rending story of a past trauma and the guilt ridden life she lead afterwards. You're worrying about things that aren't actually a problem.

How is a child who was hunted and hated by all but two or three people because she had a unique ability unsympathetic? There's nothing about this story that makes her an idiotic pyromaniac sadist who only cares about herself. She's still guilty about what happened because a whole village of people and her parents died because of her. Yeah she didn't light the fire but several times in the story she demonstrated guilt asking her father if they were out there because of her. She understood that it was her fault. There's still guilt to be purged in the fire. There's still a sob story to cry out on Gideon's shoulder.

Also: People are still upset about the Elder Dragon thing? Seriously? Why? Why can there only be five elder dragons? Why can only Dominaria have elder dragons?

Because it was handled poorly and missed an opportunity to capitalize on using the term Elder Dragon by explaining how they came to be Elder Dragons in a satisfying way that further explored the nature of Elder Dragons, which would have added not only to the new Elder Dragons, but also to the originals, while establishing a greater connection to Bolas, and it would have not required retconning because they would have been able to fill in the blanks in the story.

Instead, we got Doug saying they made them Elder Dragons because it sounds cool and they want to get new players hype to buy packs.

Hey look a fair explanation! While calling them elder dragons isn't really a retcon I can understand where you're coming from with this. They could have explained it better and given better reasoning for why they were using that typing.

However I don't feel as though it's justifiable to get upset over it and just say the new guys are bad and wizards is bad for calling them elder dragons.

So far from what i have seen, Origins appears to be incredibly enlightening. At least we are learning a lot about planeswalkers. It would appear that in order to be a 'walker, one must first be a 10 year old pokemon trainer clothed entirely with the rejects from the Hot Topic 2006 summer catolog. Then, you have to get really upset and your spark ignites transforming you into a 29 year old with a perfect body. I heard that they were going to have Ajani in there as well, the pre-walker version was going to feature him tagging along with donkey and shrek, but they just did not have room.

Seriously, i am a looong time player and i love the artistic, marketing, promotional and gameplay choices wotc has made in recent years......until this set. 72 cards in on the spoiler so far, and its just a big, hot turd.

Note that many of the cards we've seen are technically not in the set. You wont pull them in boosters they're just in the half decks for introducing new people. We've seen 2 cards that are above uncommon. It's definitely too early to judge.

Glad to hear that, gutterstorm. Ill just hold out hope that the arcticles were an elaborate hoax. After all, you can understand how i was misled with those images of young chandra as a bratz doll and young jace as justin bieber with a bathrobe.

*eyeroll* I'll admit that the promotion arts they've used aren't the best in the world but those arts don't really affect the quality of the set.

The problem with the new elder dragons is that they have it on the type line. It's like having 1/1 legendary enchantment creatures from Segovia who are not indestructible and possess the God type. They aren't gods in the multiverse, they may be worshiped as such in their plane but they can't hold a candle to the ones from Theros. If the said elder in their name line and not on their type line there would not have been such a backlash. We do not know if the Last 5 elder dragons were all from Dominaria, we do know they fought across DOminia though. We also know they possessed great knowledge of the multiverse and could traverse Dominia without a spark. The new elder dragons do not possess any of that. The type line should not be used for inner planar flavour, that's what the flavour and name lines are for.
Also I think Ugin and Bolas would be a little upset about said neo-elder dragons claiming to a title that both of them earned through great bloodshed. Also this is very much like a movie in that they aren't reading the source material and writing whatever they feel like. In some ways this is worse because you can say a film isn't cannon, but these can be considered sequels which do not follow the original stories. What's next? Retconning the death of Nivmizzet in the maze chace? Retconning the entire conversation between Gidion and Chandra, in that he now hates her and vowed to bring her to justice?

Again you're forcing things onto the title that YOU think are the requirements for the title. You don't know what requirements Wizards has for the title being gained. And ya know what I don't think Ugin would care and if Bolas cares it's because he's Bolas, who is a capricious jackass, not because they're "infringing on sacred ground" by being called Elder Dragons.

And yes the type line is used to handle flavor within a plane. Do you think an akki would recognize the fuzzy Tarkir goblins as the same as them? It's been used this way for as long as the modern type line has existed.

What are you talking about the death of Niv Mizzet? He's definitely alive. And no I don't think they're going to retcon major things like Gideon and Chandra's relationship. Nothing they've retconned influences the major story points. Chandra's new story is just as sympathetic as her old one. If she had told this one to Gideon he still would feel the same way.

You're not telling the stories mate. When you do you can come back and tell us what the standards for Elder Dragon status but until then stop acting like you know what's going on at Wizards.

Ah, so this is going along with their new idea for 2 set blocks? Sorry, I'm kind of out of it Sweat

There were several problems with the 3 set block structure so they decided to switch it up to 2 sets in each block and two blocks a year. Battle for Zendikar is the first of these. When BFZ comes out Theros and M15 will rotate out. Next spring/summer we'll get the next set in the new block at which point Khans of Tarkir and Fate Reforged will rotate out leaving Dragons of Tarkir, Origins, BFZ block and the new set. Standard rotation will change to a 18 months instead of two years.
