My personal favorite storm deck, at least as a concept, is Melek, Izzet Paragon, a bunch of stuff to ramp into him, Proteus Staff and whatever storm stuff you want in those colors.

Well, while we are accustomed to characters from 80s-90s cartoon who did not EVEN ONCE change their clothes, we can't actually say she does not seem like Mu, because we only see arms and legs of her. Consider Mu is extremely tamiyo-ish in the original art for the global series (blu dressed, white hair similar to white moonfolks appendages-ears), so maybe they tried to revamp her style in a way that could strongly differentiate one from another EVEN in a great picture including more planeswalkers, for example promotional illustrations or even cards'. We should doubt more about the type of weapon she is brandishing than her clothes. It's more like a plummage weapon or a lance with wind/sonic effect than water (even though water should have more that aspect of pale transparency than freaking sky-blue, especially in the winter of ravnica)
Edit: on second analysis Tamiyo is more of a green-ish turquoise hue than blue...

Except that exactly 0 planeswalkers have changed their clothes for the entire time there has been planeswalker cards. Because clothes are part of being able to quickly identify an image of a person, as well as a major part of a characters silhouette. Also the wanderer's weapon is part of the look that we are considering. Nothing about the image fits Mu. Not clothing, or weaponry, or color. It already didn't make sense to bring Jiangg into the main story when they could have made a new walker and needed to put in just about the same amount of work into creating them. The last thing, I think, that we want is a throw away walker from a supplemental product.

Mu Yanling and the mysterious walker in the hat look almost nothing alike. She and Jiangg don’t even have any story do they?

Also who the hell is Li Shan?

I think it's fair to say that neither Karn or Dack would know of Ob and he would certainly try to manipulate them and use them if it benefits him. And of all the walkers out there I think Ob is the one least cool with being forced into subservience to Bolas or at the very least losing the spark he just got back to Bolas.

It’s not like this is the first time he’s been wrong about the story. Remember when we learned that, originally, the intent of the Implicit Maze was to rearrange the multiverse so that Ravnica was at the center? Yeah that was Rosewater mixing up what did and didn’t make it into the actual story. The guy has a ton on his plate and he is the most active, vocal member of the design team. I haven’t looked in a while but last I was active in that area you’d be lucky to get an answer about something from Doug once a week.

Honestly that’s what places like this are for.

Now I may be misunderstanding things because I'm not versed in the old ways but Yawgmawth, who was Thran, did not create Phyrexia. He found it. So how could Phyrexians be Dominarians before Yawgmawth? Seems to me that the Phyrexia that Yawgmawth found doesn't necessarily have to be the plane from which they first came. Just one that they conquered.

Feel free to correct me as there is likely a large chunk of the details that are important that I don't have.

Am I the only one that is most surprised by the fact that Jiangg Yanggu is involved in this somehow?

Gotta say, some of these surprise me. Sorin for sure. But none more so than Jiang Yanggu. I thought they were going to be one offs to pander(not in a bad way) to the Chinese market and not be involved in the story.

Combat is difficult to do well in writing. The rest of what you're saying is kind of coming off as word soup. And again, this is entirely your opinion. I think the tone of the stories has been fine. If it's not your thing it's not your thing and that's fine. Go read A Song of Ice and Fire and the rest of the Game of Thrones books if you're looking for dark.

Am I seriously the only one that thinks that when the hero's "save the day" but there is little left to save because of massive casualties that that's not actually a success and that is in fact stakes that doesn't require the death of the main characters.

A large chunk of Zendikar's population was wiped out in the Gatewatch era. That's pretty dark. A large part of Innistrad's population was mutated into eldrazi horror's in the Gatewatch era. That's pretty dark. Brillaint scientists of Kaladesh were essentially forced into slavery by Tezzeret and Chandra was prepared to kill herself to kill her parents murderer in the Gatewatch era. That's pretty dark. 4 of Amonkhet's gods were murdered and a large part of it's population killed by zombified hero's past in the Gatewatch era. That's pretty dark.

Really the only block BFZ or after, hell Origins and after (since that was basically Gatewatch too.), that didn't have some pretty dark ***** happening was Ixalan and even that had dark undertones.

So if that's not enough then it really comes down to just wanting the Gatewatch to die. It's not about the tone of the story it's about your fictional bloodlust.

Maybe just drop it, guys? Or at least take it to PMs if you want to continue to argue. This is starting to get silly.

I'm not sure you're evaluating things right. Dark and simple are not mutually exclusive.

Also, at least across this forum, the BFZ/OTG story was was almost universally panned while later stories like Ixalan were lauded, even by haters. By no means were they perfect but they were better than the stories had been.

Dark does not mean good and just because you prefer a dark story line doesn't mean that's the right thing for WotC to do since' they're not writing these stories just for you. Personally I think that stories should have periods of darkness and levity over the fullness of their run. But that's just my opinion and will leave Creative to tell the story they want to tell.

Is it too much to ask for a cycle of mono-colored 1/1 creatures with no abilities other than it can partner with anything?

Unless you guys are looking at a different image than I am that is CLEARLY Lili. Shoulderless black dress, gold headdress, clearly Lili. Nothing about that hints at Elspeth.
