The art? Lame. Was really hoping they'd give her the dumb cat-legs she got in the books. It's such a WTF moment in those novels that is never shown in any of the art.
Am I the only one hoping the Ghost card is going to be Ghost of Balthier, so we get all three incarnations of the poor dwarf?
Also man I really hope that reprint with the online-only art is Elvish Spirit Guide. I mean, yeah the Seb stuff is cool, and there are a lot of really, really good pulls from the list of MTO-only art, but I just want a foil ESG. Thing hasn't seen print in, like, 25 years. C'mon Wizards. Put the lady in foil already.
For once I'm on board with the naysayers. I don't like where this is going. So far neither of the cards revealed are busted (though the Michone triggers me a little by calling her zombie tokens Walker tokens), but I don't like that we're getting mechanically unique cards exclusive to Secret Lair drops that are going to be a pain to print anywhere else. As long as they're just jank I'm not too worried, but the box toppers were supposed to be sub-par and look how Nexus of Fate turned out.
I'm not too worried about the whole immersion thing. But yeah, not a fan of Secret Laid exclusives. And the whole "we'll print similar" isn't all that reassuring, since if a card is good enough to warrant printing a replacement, that just means the people who bought the Secret Lair are going to have twice as many of the good card. I suspect this Walking Dead set is going to be jank at best, but I don't like the precedent it sets.
Got mine in, Ral. Izzet is my guild, so I'm happy, but little disappointing it's the WAR walkers again. Ah well, it's a bonus so I'm never going to be too bumbed that a bonus is meh. Was paying for the sick Ink Eyes.
That 20+ years is kinda what's making it harder for Wizards to develop cards. The devs have to take into mind the projected power level of Standard, how the cards will impact Modern, if anything will disrupt Legacy and Vintage, how it all plays in draft, how it all plays in sealed, will any of it break either Commander formats, will the Johnnies, Timmies, or Vorthoses like it, will it blow out the second hand market. And they have to do all of it without seeing what the formats look like by the time of printing, since they have to design, playtest, commission the art, send them to print, get them all shipped, etc, etc. You may not care that it takes that long, but that's the reality of the world we live in. Expecting people to get things right on the first go with so many moving parts is like expecting to win the lottery with one ticket.
May it's because I'm an old timer, but I remember how bad things got in Urza and Mirrodin blocks. Bad as Heart is, it's not the nonsense from Urza or the meta-crushing power of Affinity. I'd rather the devs err on the side of caution and print under powered stuff with a few gems than have us end up with unchecked power creep like Yu-Gi-Oh.
Preference: Innistrad annihilated... We've been here twice and makes Emrakul a totally badass end boss for the jacetus league to fight in 6 or 7 years
Prediction: Arlinn, Odric and Thalia with their patron Sigarda fight the forces of Emrakul with the Gatewatch ... They get beaten back till Lilliana goes full veil psycho and fights zombies vs mutants. Nahiri comes to confront Liliana and Sorin steps in saying please may I have this dance. Vampire vs Rock ... Nothing beats rock... As Sorin gets incapacitated by Nahiri she screams 'For Zendikar' at which Nissa goes 'home gurl' and Jace mindshares Ulamog and kozileks defeat. Nahiri full of remorse reverses the polarity of the cryptoliths and pushes Emrakul into the heron moon then planeswalks away. Liliana claims Innistrad as her own... Emrakul continues to exert minor influence on Innistrad and maintains the horror plane. Chandra says I miss my mummy turns to Gideon and says hey hot-stuff wanna come back to my place... Jace says I'm up... Nissa screams "Road trip". SCENE
