Went Atarka at the Saturday prerelease and built those colors becasue my RG pool was really solid. The new Surrak is an absolute house. I can't believe how ridiculous and unanswered one makes the game. Giving all of my huge formidable guys haste just takes the game over in literally 1-2 turns. Went undefeated, split top 4 for 27 packs.
Mana fixing is almost non-existant. The monuments are solid cards, being mana-fixing and turning into (at least for me) a wincon lategame.
I know it's not exactly an iconic angel, but with the silvery moon and art, I'm going on a far-reaching limb and say Angelic Overseer.
It lets your whole board through when it swings. There have been so many times where I've had stalled board states with no way to really finish the game even with mass creature presence. Worth a shot, anyways.
Went to open the Theros packs. First was a mythic, the black/white Archon that exiles. Second was something I can't remember, and the last pack had a Xenagos(Planeswalker) and a foil Hero's Downfall in the same pack. So my pulls were pretty solid.
Decided to go White/Black, because Red wasn't solid enough (neither was Blue) and I literallly pulled like 7 green cards total. Some of them were pretty good, but it just wasn't enough to make work.
I had 6 dedicated removal spells (Excoriate, Asphyxiate, Hero's Downfall, Guild, Divine Verdict, and Sip of Hemlock), and with some deathtouch eidolons and the Archon, I felt pretty comfy. I lost my first round fairly bad, but turned around and won the next two pretty easily. My final round was very, very fun, even though I lost (and subsequently dropped), I was happy, it was such a battle and I was one land shy of making a comeback and winning.
My deck would have been absolutely bonkers if I just would have had bigger natural creatures or even one Drown in Sorrow or Bile Blight. It relied on bestowing a lot because I just didn't have any large creatures on curve outside of the archon (the promo and the mythic), and 7/8 mana was always difficult to reach.
I'll say that Hero of Iroas made Bestow a lot more workable and Eidolon was generally a bomb when I played it.
White: Ephara/Karametra
Black: Mogis/Phenax
Blue: Phenax/Ephara
Green: Karametra/Xenagod
Red: Mogis/Xenagod
I guess that's how it'd work? I dunno. I went white this time around again, because I went white during the Theros prerelease (for flavor reasons and because it's my favorite color), and ended up having a W/G heroic deck that let me go 7-1(It may have been 6-1. Either way, X-1.) White's usually really good to me.
That being said, the Brute. I just really like it for some reason, and he's a very solid fatty. He's aggressively costed for being an uncommon and red (5/5 Trample/Haste for 6 or 8/8 Trample for 6 is very nice.) Returned and Spirit are solid, too.
Time to Feed with Favored Hoplite was also great. Actually, the flash enchantments on anything were very good combat tricks.
Favored Hoplite in general was a very solid card. Great 1 drop.
I'm very happy. Super. just very, very tired.
Bestow and Heroic are super powerful. Really fun, looking forward to drafting it a lot.
Most likely a bad idea, but minotaurs!
