Both here and in Masters 25 I find it really difficult to differentiate rarity for commons/uncommons from the set symbol.

I'm kinda sceptical. If they manage to find the sweet spot between supply and demand for these and manage to sell a few more boxes, then that's just upside as far as I'm concerned. But I am a bit worried about "cards not in standard print but in standard legality".

Apparently, according to this twitter thread, Pros experimented with breaking Soul of the Harvest (legal in standard because it was in the 2016 welcome deck), and Flame Lash(from Chandras PW deck) were played at a Pro Tour. These were cards that were explicitly meant not to be standard viable, yet got there/close. They could make this mistake again.

This is fun. I went to get a random card and I got Imperious Perfect again.

It is so incredibly correct to include this. Why is "loot" a word? 'Cause this guy. Definitely part of the history of the game, and if players have learned how good looting is since then, uncommon is just fine.

Prophecy also has Avatar of Woe, while Homelands has such allstars as Mammoth Harness and Dwarven Pony AT RARE.

Merchant Scroll and Memory Lapse were first printed in Homelands, no? Aether Storm and Feroz's Ban see some play in Stax. And there is some niche use for Primal Order and Koskun Falls in Commander; I've even used Forget in Nekusar. Even An-Zerrin Ruins can be a hoser; it's much better than Root Cage. And I'm sure Mystic Decree has some use with something.

So, yeah, I'm not saying it's a good set, but Prophecy is far worse, and looks even worse as a "lands matter" set in contrast to Zendikar.

I'll admit Prophecy is far worse than I actually realised when I have a closer look. I was on hiatus at that time, so I don't have the first-hand experience with it that I have with Homelands.

Interesting that Maro said in his article today that he actually chose Prophecy over Homelands for his example of "worst set ever", and I guess you could argue for both sets. Prophecy at least tried something interesting, even if it failed, with the whole Rhystic and "new ways to look at lands". Homelands was just an incoherent collection of cards mostly (seriously, are there any themes to the set beyond anaemic Dwarf and Minotaur tribal support?). And then the power level: They famously had to introduce a rule at the pro tour that each deck had to have at least 5 cards from each legal set, as that was the only way they could get anyone to play with homelands cards. I don't think things were that dire for Prophecy. (That rule also hilariously led to someone register a red sligh/weenie deck with both Goblins of the Flarg and Dwarven Trader.)

There is also the factor that Homelands could get the benefit of the doubt for being an early set, whereas by the time of Prophecy they really should know better what they were doing. So I guess I could agree to rate Homelands as worst overall, but Prophecy being worst for its time. Other than that, agree to disagree I suppose, as well as agree that bad sets are fun in their own right (once you get over the trauma from actually having played with the things).
