If that's the case, I would say you could equally use Wall of Roots as a signal that green is pretty open. It's a really strong card for any green deck that's not aggro.Quote from JovianHomarid »However, I wonder whether the "correct" pick would be to read the Chainwalker as a signal that red aggro is open. -

Honestly my hope is they just throw Force of Will into Modern Masters 17 and say 'Here, regulate your own format'.
Speaking of things they'll never do. Introducing cards to modern outside of standard is very likely to be outside their best interests. I'm absolutely certain that WotC is concerned that standard-based sales would tank way more than any increase in modern-based sales if they bypass standard. There is basically no upside to doing that from their perspective, so I think we should believe them when they say that cards get to modern though standard as a rule. -

Jayman21 posted a message on State of the Meta Thread. Talk about modern as a whole; Bans, health reprints and more. All yes would do is make bgx die. You need to play jace yo ein anything ressembling a fair game of magic but he eill do absolutely nothing against the problems for control. Izzetmage had it correct when he said you have to be doing something unfair with your control decks. There is a reason why almost all successful control decks outside of standard where combocontrol or some kind of prison deck.Posted in: Modern Archives -

Venomous72 posted a message on GP DallasPosted in: ModernQuote from cfusionpm »Quote from Kathal »To be more exact: Control players need to find a deck, which fits for them and than get good with it ^^
Greetings,
Kathal
And hope to dodge bad matchups. That's really helpful!
That's kind of every decks game plan tho isn't it? Jund hopes to dodge Tron and TitanShift, Tron hopes to dodge Burn and Infect, Infect hopes to dodge decks with removal, Dredge hopes to dodge Rest in Peace.
I dunno, I feel like that is the nature of the game. -

Kaladesh cards:
- Obvious ones: Blossoming Defense and Cathartic Reunion in Infect and Dredge. 1 Suicide Zoo with SBed Defense, 1 Temur Prowess with main Defense.
- 1 Jeskai Control with Torrential Gearhulk (T8)
- 1 Skred Red (winner), 2 Jund, 1 Mardu with Chandra, Torch of Defiance
- 1 Lantern with Glint-Nest Crane, Inventors' Fair and Aether Hub
- 1 Ponza, 1 Blue Moon with Madcap Experiment + Platinum Emperion
- 1 Bant Eldrazi with SBed Ceremonious Rejection
- 1 Bant Knightfall with Fairgrounds Warden (linking to card b/c nobody knows about it unless they play Limited. It's basically Fiend Hunter.)
Lots of UR decks with Spirebluff Canal: Grixis Control (T8), Jeskai Delver, 3 Temur Prowess aka Suicide Bloo, Blue Moon, 1 Grixis Delver.
Surprisingly NO AFFINITY . -

All the rounds I could find info on:Quote from ktkenshinx »
It seems very unlikely that both Jeskai and Grixis independently dodged the 2nd and 3rd most-played decks in the Day 2 Top 100. Anyone who is seriously suggesting that better actually have the matchups to prove it.
Burkhart (Grixis):
R7 vs Lantern, 2-0
R8 vs Eldrazi & Taxes, 2-1
R10 vs Abzan, 2-1
R11 vs Lantern, 2-0
R12 vs Titanshift, 2-0
R13 vs Infect, 2-0
R14 vs Knightfall, 2-1
R15 ID with Dredge
Mitas (Jeskai):
R7 vs Grishoalbrand 1-2
R10 vs Lantern: 2-1
R11 vs Merfolk? 2-0
R12 vs RG Tron 1-2
R13 vs Bant Eldrazi 2-1
R14 vs Thing/PA 2-1 -

xBattleSpawnx posted a message on GP DallasPosted in: ModernQuote from sisicat »Quote from cfusionpm »Quote from spawnofhastur »cfusionpm will continue with his "control is bad this is just an anomaly" narrative because this damages his "must unban twin" sentiments... even though we've got more control in a top 8 than we've seen in ages.
I'm just curious if he dodged Eldrazi and Dredge all day. Those are horrible matchups, and I don't remember seeing that on camera yesterday or today. And with BBD out in the Quarters, neither Jeskai nor Grixis would face it in T8. I will happily admit these guys are having a great day.
To be fair BBD got paired against the one guy with 4 maindeck Relic of Progenitus, that skews the numbers really hard as I think Dredge might have been quite a favorite to win the event otherwise. Just shows that matchup lottery is real and is definitely on full display here.
Yet earlier in coverage, Dredge beat Relic and everyone was talking about how it is busted. Was that match up lottery too? I'm pretty sure you are just trying to reach for any excuse you can to justify your "modern sucks as a format" view that you feel the need to post at every chance you can. -

It is also another candidate to the growing list of "suggestions that are unlikely to be revealed in a Making Magic column".

Since a lot of people don't think it would be a lie, it probably isn't "directly and obviously" a lie.
His statement: "Man, I wish it was about Un-3 : ("
The falsehood of this statement is not dependent on the nature of his article, it is dependent on his wishes about it. I feel this is exactly the kind of joke he could have played on us. And as for "the commmunity" never forgiving him. How big of a percentage of the community would even be aware of this blogatog post?
Still, I don't believe it would be UN3. It has been stated before that any Un-set would take the place of the summer supplemental product (MM, Conspiracy), and it would likely not be announced right on top of the KTK previews. The way they delayed the announcement of KTK this year not to step on JOU's toes shows that they are being mindful of these things.
Also to everyone talking about standard rotation or new tournament formats: Mark Rosewater would as good as certainly not be the person to make such an announcement.

Why not just announce it in his article two days ago, and then let the State of Design article fall in its usual slot?

He drops a couple of other hints on Blogatog:
So it seems as if he will be talking about the fall set, but there will not be previews? Will we get some details on the block structure? Announcing "Dragons of Tarkir" perhaps? Or is that too soon? We haven't really arrived yet, so haven't had the time to "miss" the dragons yet..
Thoughts?

They seem to acknowledge that there is a casual demand for tribal anything, and I think that if a kitchen-table orc-deck (vintage legal) is not thrown a bone or two, there will be a lot of disappointment.
