Seriously Karradur? Im a bad parent because my kid got some cards to side in against my deck? A BAD parent??
You don't sound like a bad parent, but you are certainly demonstrating bad parenting. The information we have been provided about your relationship with your son and with Magic is limited, but revealing.
While it was game 1 he told me he was side boarding and I did say "ok" so part of the blame is my own.
Actually, all of the blame is your own. If you didn't want him to do it, you shouldn't have let him do it. You got mad at your son for asking you permission to perform an action, and then allowing him to perform that action, and then blaming him for your mistake.
More importantly, you seem to take playing with him at home with the seriousness of tournament play, and while that isn't necessarily a bad thing (understanding tournament rules is very important for any aspiring competitive player, no matter what their age), it is a bad thing in light of something else you said.
I am proud of him when I see him make smart plays, it is really fun to share this hobby with him and then watch as he climbs the ladder at a tournament and walks home with packs as he beat opponents who were much older. The look on some of their faces is priceless.
Wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong.
You are teaching him that the novelty of a kid beating an adult, and receiving financial reward from that, is why you attend tournaments with him. He should be learning good sportsmanship, social skills, and problem solving. You should be proud of him when you see him making friends and having fun, not when you get to live vicariously through him like the women on "Dance Moms".
I think you need to reassess your priorities, magic is a hobby, not a life skill.
There is so much wrong with that statement that I don't even know where to begin. If you don't understand how or why you are wrong, then I don't know if anyone here can help you.
Can you cite any relevant cases to support this? I'd be interested in seeing if there's any relevant precedent to back that viewpoint.
I'm interested as well, because Holynorth's explanation is the first time the Reserved List has made any sense to me. Everyone else needs to lay off him a little bit.
So when exactly did Ari Lax, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Ellen Page break into your mind and steal your amazingly unusual, totally innovative, surprisingly masterful deck idea? Did they leave behind a metal top or a chess piece?
