Ive built a few sealed pools and i have always ended up going at least 3 colors, with the urge to go 4-5 most times.
I dont mean i have 30% White, 20% blue, 20% black, 30% green or something crazy, Usually my decks are centered on two colors splashing the powerful wedge morph cards, which makes it 4-5 colors.
Ive play tested my 4-5 color good stuff deck vs pools where ive specifically built 2-3 color decks and it SEEMS like the splash is usually worth it.. Even if i dont draw the right mana, i can still morph the creature and i dont need the splash mana until turn 5 usually.
Thoughts and opinions from anyone else who has tried to build sealed pools?
No one is going to buy a 5card pack for 3 tickets.. theres no guarenteed rare, I would bet they sell for under 1 ticket if there is even a market for them
When the 15 card pack is not even 3.
The max you can in from a new player event is also 5 packs..
This chg was made specifically to stop people from going infinate with NPP.
Ive made new accs in the past when it was 1 new 1 normal to enter a new player event. You spend $25 for 20 drafts and the chance to win 20 m14 packs.
At $3 a pack you needed to win 8-9 to break even out of 20. Which wasnt that hard.
I have never played standard only got into MTG last year when Theros came out, but Nissa & Genesis Hydra really peaked my interest in playing standard
I have only play tested a a few games on cockatrice but i won all my matches, except vs U/W control where i did not have a sideboard yet
A Few notes
-Genesis hydra is amazing as a post wrath play, sometimes hitting Garruk or Nissa late game
-I saw someones deck list with life's legacy and it seemed like a good idea, but i have yet to want to cast it.
-Hornet nest & Nylea disciple in SB for aggro matchups
-Chord of Calling SEEMS awesome in theory, but i have yet to do the chord into hornet nest/queen or sage blowout, maybe i need to run more? cause i never seem to have them when i want them..
Thoughts/suggestions?
Thanks
Also i believe the entire deck is intact post rotation. Except garruk.... which i suppose lifes legacy can replace?
Hi there I am trying to build a U/W Budget Blink/Flicker Deck, (i think aside from snapcaster everything in there I either already have or is relatively cheap)
Theme/Goal
Play lots of low CC or low Power creatures with ETB effects, blink them for value
Block, trade etc hopefully controlling the game in the process.
Removal or wrath when things get out of control.
Eventually Play my wincon
Only Aetherling, Sun Titan atm... suggest more?
Ideally i blink a bunch of stuff and upheavel, but blink/wrath works to
As for my commander thats not even set in stone... Currently i am thinking GAA4..
Grand arbiter augustin IV - Just for the lower cost/efficiency
Brago, King Eternal - Feels like the obvious choice, But I had pictured my deck as a control shell blinking my threats & using wrathing/upheavel, i feel GAA4 does this better.. Also if Brago is blocked he does nothing.. Am i completely wrong??
Ephara, God of the Polis, lots of blinking mean lots of cards?
Ive jumpped back and forth between black and red for the last couple days..But I think I might actully go green.
Red has a lot of removal sure, but it flat out dies to triplicate spirit, im pretty sure the white promo also is almost insta game vs red. As how often does red win vs an oppoent who reset theie life total. Imo Red needs green for netcaster spiders and more beef
Black has the strongsst promo sure but dies to tons of removal. Also I feel like its weak vs red due to all the paying of life spellls and abilities. I think red may be the second most popular color.
Green just has big creatures and ways to deal with flyers with netcaster spider and plummet at common. Most well rounded? Only lacking removal (pair with red or black)
Also, although I dont think white is very good. Raise the alarm Into triplicate spirits +green convoke cards would make an insane deck (white has ok removal)
So by picking green I can hope for either a good red or black pool to pair with it. And maybe even white if I end up with 3 triplicate spirits.Imo green maybe not the best, but can deal with most threats through size or commons (plummet and spider). And imo pairs well with 3 other colors
"themes/strategies"
1) make tokens
2) sac tokens, creatures/opponents creatures (i have a few threaten effects)
3) random combos like
-Goblin sharpshooter + gorgons head
-Opposition + tokens
-Couple reanimate spells
im in the middle of constructing it atm and here are all the cards i would like to put in..
Ive been toying with the idea of cutting blue completely and just running BR.. which i think Would be optimal. But i initally decided to play BRU because I eventually wanted to get Nicol bolas (though this doesnt seem like a Nicol bolas deck)
Mana base aside. If anyone can help me make cuts/suggestions
im particularly looking for cards like purphoros/blood artist/Stalking Vengeance That give all creatures an Enter or leave the battle field effect.
Heros are of course still good, but my UG deck was winning on avg vs my WR decks using just big creatures
Thing is we end up with more SMALL heroic creatures that require more work to build up and less enablers in the progress
0/4 in white
1/1 in red
1/3 in blue
2/1 in black (easier to block)
Its actually not uncommon that i end up with a board of 2-3 heroic creatures with only 1-2 counters on them.
A 1/1 or 0/4 with 2 counters on them aren't that impressive
Keep in mind we also have less bestow creatures as well (the JOU cycle is uncommon)
It seems like we will have to find a balance between the correct # of heroes/enablers/removal etc
My deck was something like this
16 creatures (4 heroes, 2 bestow)
1 removal
5 (3 enchantment/2 tricks)
1 spear of heliod

Set is missing a card like underworld coinsmith or scholar of atheros from last block to really bring it together imo

Subtheme, I have a couple cards like Immortal Servitude Return to the Ranks Reveillark to reanimate my small guys as well so wiping my own board is not so devastating..

Thoughts?
My friend is coming with us to his first FNM after quitting magic back in high school
My thoughts were to
Show him a pick order list
Tell him to draft lots of creatures in two colors with a low-mid curve
Any other suggestions? Or links to
Articles, videos etc on drafting basics
A good pick order list etc
Thanks
but Its just to expensive...
Paid 45 tickets for my sealed*, and i pulled about 4-5 tickets worth of cards + my 2 pack prize...
cost ~30 tickets to draft
I think i will cut blue and stick to
Lyzolda, The Blood Witch
I dont have the mana base for BRG, and it seems like there are already tons of cuts i need to make..
