This guy is hilarious. Lets be honest, we aren't exactly trying to fit society's norms. We spend thousands of dollars and even more hours playing a card game. Lighten up.

In a long tourney the best decks rise to the top. But in a shorter event like 6 rounds, there are probably 20-25 decks that could 6-0 it. Amulet of vigor, tin fists, and others have shown this recently. Blue moon top 8ing out of nowhere, etc.

I think it's not just the best decks, but the best pilots as well.
With some amount of compensation going on between the two, like a good enough deck carrying a player through poorly thought out plays or a better player enduring through the duration of the event and maintaining optimal play while the competition is perhaps even more fried.

    Tangent:
I'm kinda tempted to do an out of left field investigation as to whether or not coffee sales might've spiked locally, might be indicative of how many people are buzzing on caffeine and if it's making or breaking their game.

Yea i agree as well its no shock that the best pilots are usually on one of the top few decks especially melira and twin. The decks with the most complexity certainly bode well when the rounds get tougher and piloting is so important. LSV a good example having rose a ton of spots the last few rounds.

But i certainly believe that the meta still has a ton of room for pet decks in smaller events, just hard to win a big event without one of the best 5 or so decks.

You could always win a small tournament with pet decks, because a lot of people play bad decks there. The point was that this supposed "meta shakeup" was nothing more than thinly disguised booting of an archetype off of the top tables in events that matter.

Such the diverse meta! Twin, pod, and affinity at t1, everything else t2 or lower. So basically all the bans/unbans did was boot out bgx decks. Same top decks as before just with one less contender.

I don't think anyones basing it off of just todays GPs. Twin was dominant at the Pro Tour and is dominating the MTGO meta as well.

I think twin could definitely get a ban within the next few months.

Twin basically plays out as an attrition deck, similar to Jund. Imagine if Jund had a 2 card combo that could just win the game out of no where. Even with deathrite + Bloodbraid Jund didn't have that kind of power.

Twin now has the best archetype (Blue/Red) with the best shell Command/Snapcaster/Bolt and the best combo in the format. All I'm saying is that I wouldn't get too comfortable with your twin decks.

Yeah, but scavenging Ooze costs twice as much as DRS, harder to cast, has a body thats on-curve as opposed to above it, and it only does graveyard and lifegain things(It doesn't also be a better BoP and Lavamancer). It is certainly no DRS.

Yeah, nothing will (entirely) replace Deathrite Shaman in Modern. Heck, Scavenging Ooze supplemented Deathrite back in the day--I generally find that Ooze hoses graveyards better because it can nail multiple cards as soon as it ETB, and Ooze blocks a lot better and swings significantly harder, but Deathrite foixed mana, mana ramped (sometimes for Ooze), virtually swung for 2 unblockable power per turn, hosed Burn better, and made Jund a lot more Blood Moon-resistant than it currently is. I put both Deathrites and Oozes (4 Deathrite/1-4 Ooze split) in the same decks.

I swapped out Deathrites with Noble Hierarchs in Melira Pod because I need the mana dorks, and in Jund, Deathrite got replaced by stuff that doesn't do its job. ...Yeah, nothing will ever replace Deathrite.

But at least we don't have any oppressive archetypes or creatures anymore amirite? Oh wait there's u/r and snapcaster

The previous format was universally decried as a bad format.

Subjective and all relative. What one finds bad, others find good to play.

Maybe you told to many people to play in their own sandbox Boce.

Never had a problem of the complaining with the people I played with like here. Never had to say that to anyone in the paper world.

I never have heard the complaining at a paper tournament that I hear on here.

The disconnect from the online and paper world is pretty hilarious actually. My friends and I were laughing at the thought of DRS getting banned at the modern tournaments leading up to the B&R announcements. It was absolutely unnecessary.

But in the online world, Deathrite Shaman is the second coming of Black Lotus. Start gathering your Deathrites folks, original mint Deathrites from RTR will be 27-grand some day.

At this point people are just blowing DRS out of proportion because of the ban. He's the best one drop creature next to wild nacatl and delver, sure. But comparing him to cards like JTMS is just ridiculous.

Because he tutors your library for any creature you need at the specific time... oh wait no thats a different card legal in modern.
Because he's a 3/3 body for 1 mana. Nope, wrong card again.
Because he's 3 damage at instant speed that can go to the player or creature for 1 mana, damn wrong card again.
Maybe it's because if not removed he can win you the game on the spot. Nope, wrong card again.

What's more likely than DRS being too good for the format is that they wanted to shake things up in a format that is supposed to do it by itself, it just wasn't happening fast enough.

Not sure it's worth it to invest in another deck, Snapcaster Mage was in a ridiculous number of decks at the PTQ, and in 5/8 of the Top 8. I don't think he'll be sticking around in Modern much longer. Maybe once the PTQ hype dies down I'll try out a combo deck like Amulet of Vigor or Living End.

Snapcaster Mage should be pretty safe from a ban. The card is powerful, but nowhere even close to broken. It just gives you some value. It doesn't suppress any particular strategies or give you insane reach (like DRS did), it can't win the game by itself (well, not very quickly anyway... I have won games with Snapcaster beatdowns, but that's like poking someone to death with a banana — the whole time you're thinking, "he's got to be able to stop me somehow... there's no way he's going to let me keep doing this long enough to kill him..."), and it isn't part of a degenerate combo. It's just a guy that does a thing.

The same could be said with DRS too. It takes just as long to kill with him, even longer since the only way to get any additional value doesn't let you do damage at the same time. It's obvious WOTC is just swinging the banhammer at whatever pops up the most, Snappy / Pod / Twin are next.

After seeing all the effort WoTC has put into pushing Modern, I can't imagine them not reprinting Fetches. Every set that they are not printed in will cause them to spike, and honestly they are nearing the price of a lot of dual lands right now which is just ridiculous. $70 for a single scalding tarn?!

Hopefully the meta is nothing like was seen at PT:BNG. I was excited getting into modern because it was a powerful format where you didn't have to play blue to be competitive (Legacy). However, it's quickly becoming a Blue dominated format with cards such as Snapcaster Mage leading the charge.

I play both UWR/Esper and Jund, because I'm the type of person who likes to have their cake
    and eat it too.

Let the Blue players have their moment in the spotlight for the time being. Until then either take a break from Modern like I am or just switch over to a new deck.

Best format in the game, as long as you play red and blue.
