Deathrite Shaman
The coolest card that had no reason whatsoever to be banned in an eternal format. Also, the art is amazing.

Feb 4, 2014bkohlman posted a message on Launch Giveaway! My favorite card is Story Circle. I remember that particular card winning me so many games when Urza's Saga just came out. Everyone hated my white protection/lifegain deck and it was a great time.Posted in: Announcements

You could always win a small tournament with pet decks, because a lot of people play bad decks there. The point was that this supposed "meta shakeup" was nothing more than thinly disguised booting of an archetype off of the top tables in events that matter.
Twin basically plays out as an attrition deck, similar to Jund. Imagine if Jund had a 2 card combo that could just win the game out of no where. Even with deathrite + Bloodbraid Jund didn't have that kind of power.
Twin now has the best archetype (Blue/Red) with the best shell Command/Snapcaster/Bolt and the best combo in the format. All I'm saying is that I wouldn't get too comfortable with your twin decks.
But at least we don't have any oppressive archetypes or creatures anymore amirite? Oh wait there's u/r and snapcaster
The disconnect from the online and paper world is pretty hilarious actually. My friends and I were laughing at the thought of DRS getting banned at the modern tournaments leading up to the B&R announcements. It was absolutely unnecessary.
But in the online world, Deathrite Shaman is the second coming of Black Lotus. Start gathering your Deathrites folks, original mint Deathrites from RTR will be 27-grand some day.
Because he's a 3/3 body for 1 mana. Nope, wrong card again.
Because he's 3 damage at instant speed that can go to the player or creature for 1 mana, damn wrong card again.
Maybe it's because if not removed he can win you the game on the spot. Nope, wrong card again.
What's more likely than DRS being too good for the format is that they wanted to shake things up in a format that is supposed to do it by itself, it just wasn't happening fast enough.
The same could be said with DRS too. It takes just as long to kill with him, even longer since the only way to get any additional value doesn't let you do damage at the same time. It's obvious WOTC is just swinging the banhammer at whatever pops up the most, Snappy / Pod / Twin are next.
Not sure it's worth it to invest in another deck, Snapcaster Mage was in a ridiculous number of decks at the PTQ, and in 5/8 of the Top 8. I don't think he'll be sticking around in Modern much longer. Maybe once the PTQ hype dies down I'll try out a combo deck like Amulet of Vigor or Living End.
