I'd be interested in this format, it feels like the opposite of EDH, instead of big splashy spells, it's all small stuff. Doran as general with a lot of cheap removal and solid utility creatures?

That is because it is not EDH, it is a wanna-be legacy highlander format. A few more cards and it is legal for 60 card formats. Standard sized highlander decks are nothing new.

Smaller decks + Smaller legal card pool = warped format. A couple OP cards will show their faces. They will get banned. Rinse repeat. I cannot wait to see someone discover the TL Rune-Tail, Kitsune Ascendant deck I built and playtested Earlier this week.

One of my favorite things about EDH is the fact that the high CMC cards are actually viable. Eliminating a large portion of the available card pool just screams yuk. Why does EDH have to be "Tiny"? This is a idea that makes them smaller than the other formats. Just not that great of a idea.

Build mono-black Sorin Markov and then tell me you want Planeswalker commanders.

the thing is I'm not a huge fan of wishes in edh. If a group wants to play with wishes and everyone is prepared, then it's fine. I just don't want wishes to be an "offical" rule ever. Which is why I'm glad the RC is getting rid of the sideboard rule. Wishes are fine in a regular magic formats, but are different in edh. Since every edh deck is a singleton deck the power of wishes is a lot better. With wishes there's almost no reason not to run as many as you can as they are essentially tutors. Having wishes essentially just makes your deck 110 cards instead of 100. Edh is about creativity through the restriction of its singleton nature. Wishes diminish that to an extent as you can just mindlessly add those few cards to your decks that didn't quite make the cut to the main list. Besides in edh you're supposed to put in cards that help you deal with multiple threats without needing a sideboard. Wishes allow combo to get even better and further power-up 5 color decks. You won't have to add in removal or hate cards to your main deck, just throw them into your wishboard. Overall I just think they're unnecessary and don't really add anything to edh as a whole.

Even with a sideboard, you cannot carry multiples of cards. The "singleton" nature is still there, it just means you can be more creative in the uses of your deck. Not as though you can wish into banned cards. If you cannot stop a card in their deck, what is gonna change if it is wished from the SB? If anything, there are easy ways to handle wishes, so let people have them.

Optional rules, within rules, just screams for the rules lawyers to come with their torches and pitchforks. As such, if we are gonna discuss this within the guidelines set by the RC, then maybe a definitive decision on sideboards should be considered? Right now they are a optional resource that some refuse to acknowledge.

There is a definitive decision. We announced a while back that we were getting rid of that section. I just need to get around to pulling the page and replacing it with something new, but there's always stuff with a higher priority going on. :p

Just to clarify, SBs are not allowed at this current time? Now I know the rule itself is gone for optional, but is there a decision to stick with no SB?

At the moment, we basically have format-level errata that blanks their text boxes. That, or Rule 15 is entirely redundant. Sheldon and the RC have taken deliberate steps to make the rules clear and concise and this would be the next logical step.

I agree here, it is probably simpler to just ban the wishes (and Spawnsire of Ulamog?) then keep around a weird rule about them.

Getting rid of a bunch of cards that are not format breaking makes very little sense. Cards on a ban list are generally broken, and we don't keep seeing those same mistakes being made repeatedly. Wishes, however, have been getting printed, off and on, for a while now. Odds are we see more, as there has never been anything announced for getting rid of the card style. On the other hand, I believe every other format plays with a sideboard(??), so it is natural to have one.

Sideboards allowed would be the best solution for the whole thing. If you go banning them, then you lock out a whole section of cards that can retrieve cards that get exiled by spells or abilities. Limiting their use to sideboard only would be a solid way to handle them. Besides, you should be looking to stop the wishes target, not the wish itself. Let them spend the resources to get something cool, only to watch it countered, bounced etc. Most decks carry responses anyways

PS never gets unbanned with Ugin in the future. Ugin may very well be a ban target just from multiple test games with him.

Anyone ever taken a serious look at Illusionist's Bracers? It can break out a ton of "infinite" two card combos, with mana being a fun one with things like Tidewater Minion. Anything you want to blow up with endless mana?

Also, sideboards and stasis locks etc can be a legit answer to certain cards. Rule 14 makes sideboards optional, not illegal, if you use these particular rules made by the RC. So the wishes remain a way to seek answers for things like Primeval Titan, making it legit to argue for his unbanning. When you try to make a casual form of mtg into a "official" style of play, people are not concerned with being anti-social, they just want to win and will use a lock if needed.

Gifts Ungivenis just plain broken. T1 into a T2 win-con just screams bad for the game. Played right, and some luck, you could T1 win.

Primeval Titan is long overdue for removal from the list. Too many ways to handle it. Stasis lock, Exile, etc. If your deck cannot hate this guy out of the game in like 2 seconds, you may wanna rethink your deck strategy. You can sideboard into answers for things like this. Cunning Wish Glittering Wish anyone? I would rather deal with a PT than say Elvish piper or Seedborn Muse

Library of Alexandria is a interesting choice for the ban list. It has not been broken for a long time. With so many ways in the game to get rid of it, and limited utility within the current game, I do not see this one needing a ban still. The key to this cards old school broken status was getting multiple of them into play, or giving yourself multiple ways to tap/untap it. Things easily handled nowadays.

Outside of the speed of the card, I see nothing wrong with it. Exile a creature at 4cc? Average. Gives a decent return in a mana token. Not too mention that the token is a artifact (too many art abuse opportunities to list here). Yes, AtA is getting rid of 2 vs 1, but Gild should not have a hard time finding a spot in anything using removal.

Well, it would add another card to the very limited amount of quality cards in the set. Just my opinion, and maybe I missed something, but Theros seems to be lacking.

It has been a few years since I played. Lost sight and just started recovering. Trying to get back into the Standard format and am sitting on a R/B deck that could use some help. Definitely want to go aggro with some burn spells. Also, I enjoy the Unleash mechanic

Yes, I know it is probably pretty ugly, but I don't have many cards to work with right now. I do have a bunch on order that I am waiting for to possibly switch in.

Sell, or use as trade bait. If you have no intention of using it, make it useful and get some good cards out of it.
