How about instead of arguing if it is a good deck or not :), lets talk about what is in his SB. What would he have sided in for aggro and/or control? Do you think he added the hammer for a certain deck? Trying to figure out what that would be really good against. Guessing a fast aggro or maybe mono blue/black? What do you guys think?
Another nice trick is to flash in a Goat as a blocker for your or your Jace for one life. Only think I don't like is at 4 mana, it is kinda expensive. Usually when it comes in you will have already stabilized and it turns into a Win-more. But if you are running keyrunes, it could be very interesting.
I agree, I think we need some way of gaining life. I tried out Tablet of the Guilds last weekend and really liked how it played. Other option is Elixir of Immortality if playing a Tap-Out build.
I think it is going to come down to personal preference. Steam Augury helps the Spiral plan a lot. You are going to get 2-3 card every time into your graveyard. Opportunity may, if you have more than 7 in your hand at the end of your turn. That more depends on your style. Personally I like to case a SA and an Opp. at Eot and Spiral next after I had to discard 3-5 cards. Most people here like Thoughtflare because it does not give the other guy a chance to pick which draws you discard and/or because it is one mana cheaper than Opportunity. All 3 have there plan, just have to see where it fits for you.
Thanks. I personally prefer the Draw-Go style a lot more. WUR and Esper do a lot better in tapout strategies in my opinion, because of how useful Detention sphere and Elspeth are to a tapout control strategy.
So you played your list as Draw-Go, very cool. When I first looked it, I was thinking more TapOut. The more I think about it, the more I like wierds in Draw-Go. Will have to try your list, thanks.
Won my game day yesterday going 5-0, I'm really happy with the deck list I have ATM. Here's the list:
Gratz, sounds like a fun weekend. Thanks for the details, really interesting to read what others are SB'ing. Results like these are very encouraging
I have been trying to figure out if I want to go Draw-Go/EoTSAYL or Tap-Out. Went Draw-Go this weekend without much success, but 2 of the 3 games I lost was because of draw. Mine or theirs, never really had a chance.
@cipher, that is what I like about my deck with all the spot removal, I feel like I can deal with just about anything. I dont have to counter it before it hits the board. Just seems to give me a lot more options. So tapping out on one turn, just means I can doom blade them the next.
How viable is it running walkers in my Draw-go deck? Wold love to add Jace (either one) and/or Ashiok, but without blockers, even will all the remove I run. Just don't think they will last very long. I could drop them late, after turn 6-8, but then they are just win-more. What do you guys think?
Personally I like the Draw-Go/Mill style better than Tap-Out. So this is the deck I am working on to take to FNM tomorrow. A pretty straight up Draw-Go with a few twists. Only 6 counter’s with 15 removal. I like the proactive way it plays, don’t have to worry so much about something slipping through and/or not having the mana/counter needed when it drops. With that many counters I can usually take care of it after it hits the board, or wait a turn it I want to do something else. The other main addition is the Tablet of the Guilds. So far in testing, I have been very happy with it. It adds 1-2 life almost every turn. The extra life seems to help swing those close games more in my favor. Gives me that extra turn or two to stabilize. I feel the longer the game goes, the better my odds.
I know I don’t need to run both Aetherling and Sphinx, but so far not sure which one I like better, Friday going to take both and see which one is a better fit.
Got a new take on grixis so far, here is the update
Like your list a lot. What would you side in/out against aggro and control? Headed to FNM in a few days and learning how to use my sideboard is something I really need to work on. Thanks
Mow probably fits in a tap-out control build, I would take bbd's list, remove chandra, ral zarak and possibly the keyrunes for MOW. You might even be able to squeeze a thassa in over ashiok # 4
That should be a decent starting point, it would look something like this
Would it be worth adding whip if running that many creatures, mainly for the life gain? Just feel having some added life may be just what it takes to push grixis over the top.
How does this deck beat Burning Earth?
Im mean I played against a Grixis Control deck earlier with my R/w Midrange deck. Game 1 was really in his favor but I won game 2 and 3 single-handedly because I sided in three copies of Burning Earth and they came down really early because he had to tapout to deal with my creatures.
I ran 2 cyclonic rift to in my mb to help with stuff that I can't' counter when it drops or that I just can't deal with. Not a permanent solution but does give me a turn or two to come up with something better. Or finish him off if I can.
