I'm both sorry and amused that AIDS has become a part of this thread, even if a meagre one.

People need to stop claiming that Iona is fine because other players can solve the solitary monocolored player's problem. They might do so if they're nice, but they have no incentive to unless the board state calls for it in particular (which is rare).

    Stormful Deluge 3U
    Enchantment U
Creatures you control with flying get +1/+0.
Creatures you don't control without flying get -1/-0.

EDIT: Lmao, I basically copied an earlier card on this same bloody page.

The number of people that defend Iona baffles me.

She's a card that locks out monocolor decks. Colorless solutions are mostly on very bad rate. It's not the same as packing graveyard answers, for example, those are basically always vastly more efficient than what's necessiated to remove the angel. In addition, it requires a singular removal piece in a 100 card deck, intended for a particular card whose problems aren't truly mirrored in other cards.

For example, graveyard removal is always worth it to include a few effective pieces of. Same with artifact and enchantment removal. How many cards require similar removal to Iona, really? In a monocolor deck? There are plenty of impossibly resilient threats that you can try and race, for example. Iona is just a singular piece of frustration that either warps deckbuilding or ruins the games played.

No, I haven't seen her much. But it's because the people I play with remove her after trying her out. Because she ruins the games.

I've followed the YouTuber Magic_Aids (and others) recently so I've seen this in action a few times. I have little understanding of the Modern metagame, but when people start maindecking black leylines, you know you done goofd.

(I'll recommend him, btw, he's quite charming, although content warning, he's not always kosher in regards to his commentary. Who'd know from such a username?)

Also it's my birthday so this is a weird birthday present lol

    Blastsack Sliver 2R
    Creature - Sliver R
Whenever Blastsack Sliver or another Sliver creature you control dies, it deals damage equal to its power to any target.
    3/0

Next: WotC has started doing black enchantment removal. Show me what that's like at common.

    Guardian of the Gate 3
    Artifact Creature - Soldier R
    Defender
Whenever a land you control is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, return it to the battlefield tapped. It doesn't untap during its controllers next untap step.
It watches over the realm forever.
    3/3

EDIT: This was for the previous challenge, of some reason my thread hadn't updated in time.

I was kinda baffled at the parsing of the music mechanic. What you're saying about music is just wrong. For the record, I'm doing a masters in musicology, and have spent half my education primarily looking into mainstream stuff. I know what I'm talking about x)

I'm certainly not going to pretend to be an expert. Looking back at it, I think you were invoking the verse-chorus-verse-chorus paradigm. When I saw the card, I got a different impression invoking dissonance and frenetic change, which is why I thought of Mr. Bungle (the most frenetic music I know, and I like it a lot). I wasn't trying to make a statement about what music is and isn't. I think I simply interpreted the concept differently than how you'd intended it.

The color break is probably the biggest problem with the concept, and perhaps the two halves wouldn't have read as dissonant to me if they'd been the same color. Fire and ice are opposites after all, so you can see why I interpreted it as an abrupt stylistic change rather than verse and chorus.

You're very nice to return and answer me! It's all good. I was just slightly baffled, but this makes a lot of sense.

I wouldn't have my entry win because I mistakenly made a color break mechanic (at least displayed a color breaking facet of it). Also I believe the mechanic was too fidgety and clumsily handled rules wise. But ... I was kinda baffled at the parsing of the music mechanic. What you're saying about music is just wrong. Excited for the new round, I'll think about it.

Oh god the shuffling. Why not look at the top six cards instead, putting the rest on the bottom in a random order?

    Song of Ice U
    Enchantment - Song U
(When this enters the battlefield or you turn to it, play its chorus. At the beginning of your first main phase, turn it to the other Song.)
    Chorus: Tap target permanent.
    //
    Song of Fire R
    Enchantment - Song U
(When this enters the battlefield or you turn to it, play its chorus. At the beginning of your first main phase, turn it to the other Song.)
Chorus: Song of Fire deals 1 damage to any target.

    -

Basically, this is a split card where the right half is upside down.

You cast either side (Here you can cast either Ice or Fire). Then like Sagas, at the beginning of your first main phase, you turn the card around similar to flip cards and activate the other song. Rinse and repeat. Also, unlike flip cards, since all Songs are enchantments (that don't tap), there shouldn't be any confusion in regards to whether it's tapped or not. The side facing its controller normally is the one that sings its chorus.

Songs will not be printed at the common rarity.

IIW: Wizards have announced that they're going to do black enchantment removal. Show me what that's like at common.

    Volplex Elemental 2U
    Creature - Elemental R
+1/+1 counters remain on Volplex Elemental as it moves between exile and the battlefield.
Whenever an opponent casts a spell, put a +1/+1 counter on Volplex Elemental and exile it until end of turn.
6U: For each counter on each player, creature or exiled card you own, you may put another counter of that type on that card. You may activate this ability while Volplex Elemental is in exile.
    1/1

Next: WotC has announced that black will now be able to remove enchantments. Show me how that's done in commmon.

This makes me wonder why Blood of the Martyr is so (expensive? weighted?)

Well, early balance is like weighing a feather against an iron except there are no scales and your hands are on fire.
