I'm pretty much sold on Condemn. Played it enough in EDH to know it's good. It's certainly situational, but it works against the decks where you want more removal.
Obviously we're talking about a card that is awful in any other match-up but I guess it just comes down to how many side-board slots can be devoted to infect. I'd really like to be able to have nothing in this match-up that doesn't react with creatures and players after side-boarding.
I have been running a combination of six Searing Blaze and Searing Blood. That will go up to eight. Blood will probably remain in the side-board.
Anybody have any suggestions for dealing with Infect? Sudden Shock seems good and Burn the Impure appeals to me as well.
Sadly, some of the normal stuff is pretty bad in this match-up; Bump in the Night, Boros Charm, Lava Spike to name a few. In fact, I'm pretty sure I'm going to ditch B for the time being entirely.
I also need to be prepared for playing against Burn as well. For that, I'm thinking of adding Dragon's Claw to the side-board; it seems helpful against Storm as well.
Yes, this is all just for FNM. Any helpful ideas would be appreciated.
PS: I edited out the 2 creatures that were white. Nevertheless the list still is long, and it still is a very good card vs Pod/Jund/Affinity/Merfolk/UR/RUG/Zoo. But i agree that maindecking it still would be a very, lets say "meta choice". Anyway 2-3 in my side are set for now.
Perhaps I was bit pedantic in pointing out the obvious above; I'm not really arguing against Sunlance. In fact, I bought a set to test with a mono-W Knights deck I run (I'm a bit of a masochist - a sucker for sucky, mono-W aggro).
The question is; "Is it the next best W removal spell?" It may well be. Here's a short list of some of the contenders.
That's just a few off the top of my head. There are obvious advantages and disadvantages. I'm not sure which comes out ahead overall, but I do agree it's an important question.
Of course with G, there's even Beast Within to consider.
Dude, read the whole post. That is my list from last PTQ season.
For some reason, Blackcleave Cliffs came through as Bloodstained Mire. There's really no explanation. I apologize. I tried to edit it before anyone noticed.
I've actually liked keeping in Etched Champion vs. Burn. Instead, I tend to side out Memnites and shave a few Steel Overseers.
Back when I ran Affinity, I actually ran the Etched Champion in the side-board and brought them in for the Steel Overseer when faced with things like Burn.
Champ carries Cranial Plating like, well, like a Champ. You don't want your guy burned out from under the Plating. Master of Etherium is the other guy I wanted to see when playing burn.
I'm kidding of course, I just wanted to post something with Unravel the Æther in it. Because it's Unravel the Æther, you see. Point your mouse at it and see what I mean.
New here but has anyone done a 3 color burn deck with red, white, black? Sideboard opinions would be really nice I think, and main board wouldn't be to bad as well. With boro's charm, bump in the night, and lighting helix.
RWB is very common in Modern. There are deck-lists in this thread.
Fetch lands are petty much essential, but that's less of a problem today than it was before Khans of Tarkir. One can get by fairly well with eight - so a set each of Bloodstained Mire and Wooded Foothills - but ten might be better. That would mean some number of Arid Mesa or Scalding Tarn.
Bump in the Night is typically the only B card in the main-deck. Boros Charm is the most commonly found W card but Lightning Helix is often used as well. Rakdos Charm is a side-board staple and there are many W cards used in side-boards; Wear // Tear being a very common example.
Early life-gain seems essential, thus Meadowgrain has been added. For much the same reason, Fiendslayer gets a starting role.
Neither B nor G have gone away so Crusader remains although I would dearly love to have a couple of copies of Hero of Bladehold in the main.
Tivadar in the board is just for fun although he is a fine card in the Burn match-up as well as an all-star in the Goblin match-up. He's probably not really worth a slot.
A couple other slots in the board will probably change; Patrician's Scorn will likely get cut for Storm hate, perhaps Rest in Peace.
Eventually, I shall have to have a good think about adding a color. Knight of the Reliquary is such a lovely card, and the art is on my deck box, so it seems as if G the right thing to do, but I'm still thinking of U as well. Believe it or not, Phyrexian Metamorph is one of the main draws for U.
...If all you want to do is kick Burn's butt maindeck, though, I suspect Sorin, Solemn Visitor is even better than 4-drop creatures. They need to aim Skullcrack at your head the turn you land and +1 him (or you need to have no creatures the turn you land him) or you WILL win the game. Against Burn, Sorin's ability to gain massive amounts of life (and increase your clock) every turn is insane, and his high loyalty either soaks up way too much damage for them to recover from or deters them from disturbing him. Sorin 3.0 also grinds out games pretty well.
This assertion may well be correct but no four-drop will help on the draw against the Burn nut draw. It must be said that repeatable life-gain is certainly better than one-shot life-gain.
Has anyone tried American Heroic? I've been looking threw the thread and haven't stumbled upon any. Can someone post a deck they're running for it? I have too many ideas but none I've been able to settle on.
I posted a list called American Soldiers; it's a combination of Heroic and Outlast. The main idea, however, was Daxos of Meletis and Ride Down. It's done poorly and I've pretty much given up on Daxos.
Condemn is definitely a hoot in Commander.
Crib Swap is a bit steep a 2W, but it doesn't have the limitations the others have. It also pumps Tarmogoyf, which may be a negative in context.

I'm thinking of some possibilites;
Chalice of the Void.
Geth's Verdict or even Devour Flesh.
Wrench Mind.
Spellskite.
Would it be crazy to run one Watery Grave for 'Skite fuel?
The list is here, if you'd like a look:
4 Dark Confidant
3 Scavenging Ooze
4 Tarmogoyf
3 Kitchen Finks
4 Phyrexian Obliterator

2 Forest

I'm not sure what I'd switch just yet.
Any help at all would be appreciated.

As far as Ensoul Artifact goes, - best case - put it on Darksteel Citadel and just watch 'em cry.

Personally, I may have to go mono-R for a while. One of the kids is running Infect and RWB has too many cards that can't interact with creatures.
Mirran Crusader and Tidehollow Sculler do not die to Sunlance.

Continuing with the subject of lands, Blackcleave Cliffs is popular and Battlefield Forge gets some play as well.

4 Student of Warfare
4 Knight of Meadowgrain
4 Knight of the Holy Nimbus

4 Flagstones of Trokair
4 Mutavault
11 Plains
4 Æther Vial
4 Brave the Elements
4 Path to Exile
2 Paladin en-Vec
1 Tivadar of Thorn
2 Celestial Purge
3 Ratchet Bomb
2 Timely Reinforcements
3 Day of Judgment
